I cant believe they would lie to my face like that! They said 30 days free, they didn't say anything about having to put in a banking account before you get 30 days free! That's such a rip off! what if i don't want to put in my billing information when I have 30 days free, for all I know their going to take money without me knowing. Bethesda, can i ask you a question? You do so many good games but when it come to a game people want the most you feel the opportunity to such the money and spirit of everyone who can barley even pay to put food on the table, if you win any game awards I will be really surprised because you don't deserve it at all. Next time you make a game with a subscription fee, let the fans determine the subscription fee. I'm ok with $5 for a month with 30 days but $15!? come on you can do better than that, why don't you just put a subscription fee on the next elder scrolls see how much money you get from that . You have officially gone onto the *** wall of fame, your welcome.

They don't take money out until the end of the month. You are able to cancel the sub at anytime. So there really isn't that much of a problem.

Seriously? You expected them to give you 30 days free then let you cancel the order? That would be stupid. Every kid on the block would have jumped in to rip them off.

It's a fair deal and you don't have to accept it if you don't want.

This is standard practise for MMO publishers, and many other businesses with online running costs do the same.

I'm not saying it's good, but all you can do about it is vote with your wallet; but people have been arguing about this for the past 15+ years and the status quo has yet to change. Feel bad for those who have to pay with pre-pay cards - they can't simply cancel; they've already paid.

As for the price; that's normal for a AAA sub MMO. Inflation, right.

A bit of perspective here. If you can barely put food on the table you really ought not spend money on online games. No disrespect meant but it is a case of having priorities.
MMO publishers decide on the business model they want to use and if they decide on a sub model then that is their choice. It does not entitle anyone to expect to play free. If the publishers go for a ftp model then yes, a lot of people WILL play completely free because others pay.

But really, games are a business. Someone always pays.

Let me put it this way: If I have very little or no money I can't walk into a car dealership and demand that the dealership gives me the latest model on show for free. I take the bus for free if I want to get around, yes?

Then why are people doing it with online games?

This post is wrong on so many levels. For starters, this game is NOT made by Bethesda. This is a Zenimax Online Studios production. Secondly, this charge is NOT permanent. It is a temporary charge that will be canceled; it is merely there to confirm that the banking information is correct. Lastly, if you are that worried about a company taking 'money without me knowing,' then check your bank statements. There is no way that you wouldn't know if they charged you. Perhaps you should read into this game, the ToS, and what Zenimax has said to the public, BEFORE you spout your ignorance over the forums. Good day.

If the OP is going to have troubles with "barley even pay to put food on the table" then maybe they should grow a garden so they can have some veggies to go with that barley. They could also look at their priorities between cost of living essentials versus non essentials and maybe looking into Hooked on Phonics.

They should let you determine how much to pay? Because you're aware of how much it costs Zenimax to run their product? If you can barely afford to out food on your table, yet are still spending £50 on a game then it's on you noone else.

Lol? Get your priorities straight. If you are truly in a position where you can "barely even pay to put food on the table" you should probably NOT be looking at playing video games.

You should be figuring out how you get a better job, get better at your job, find a job or something along those lines to be able to put more food on your table.

Priorities check, bro. Also you're probably a lying troll, just saying.

This is nothing new and your rant shows just how little you know of the history of MMOs

What IS new about this is that they do the auth for the full price of the subscription, and don't tell you about it when you setup the transaction.

Inudstry standard is a 0.01 or 1.00 verification charge to prove your credit card is valid.

And we're not simply talking $15 some people setup 6 month subscriptions that's about $80 that dissappears out of their accounts for days with a lot of banks. I set mine up on thursday, and the money is still frozen in my account and I'm with one of the biggest banks in the States.

What makes this a big deal, and potentially considered a fraudulent charge by banks, is the fact that nowhere on their Transaction pages does it say a hold is placed against your account, or in the e-mail you get. In fact they go so far as to assure you no charges are placed against your account until your 30 days are up.

The money comes back, sure, but for some of us that's the better part of a Benjamin gone for almost a week at the beginning of a month when most people pay other bills... and the pages we signed up on said it wouldn't happen.

That's why this is a huge deal to me. Imagine the people that did this before ZoS took the time on the forums (which NOT everyone reads) and got a 6 month sub that still can't pay a major bill because $80 is frozen in their account, or the people that have overdraft charges because of this or subsequent charges.

It's not the amount that matters, it's the practice that it's a shady business practice to not inform customers (even illegal in many states or countries) that they're placing a hold against their account.

Bottom line, not only did they go against industry standard with their pre-auth being full amount, they used bad business in not getting customers informed consent.

paid gaming is a luxury and luxury expenses are always at the end of the priority line.

when the luxury expense imposes on the mandatory expenses without any forewarning , things go wrong.

its not hard to understand, no need to be jerks about it.
