WIll I lose ESO if I stop my Microsoft Ultimate Gamepass?

Just had an email today saying the Microsoft Ultimate Gamepass is going up to £22 (from £14 - [snip]?) and I'm not going to be paying that. But ... I play ESO on Gamepass and I don't think it's on the lowest Gamepass sub.

I'm fully expecting to not be able to play ESO once my Ultimate finishes but if I buy the standalone disk - will I keep my character or will I have to start from scratch?

Your characters are stored on ESO's servers, not XBox's.

If you stop paying Gamepass, you will need to buy ESO as a standalone game, but your account and characters will still be there once you do, provided you are still playing on an XBox.

If you are on xbox, don’t you need some sort of gamepass subscription to play online? You use to need xbox gold, then they made everybody get gamepass. Not sure if it’s still a thing, but worth checking out before making decisions. (If you’re on pc, you definitely do not need gamepass, just stand alone game.)

Yes it is. I have game pass Core and it's on there

Yeah - that's why I've gone for the basic Gamepass - should allow me Online Gaming and if what this guy says is correct then I should be OK.

You just need Xbox Essential. You can even use cloud play!
Ebonheart Pact, Nord Templar/healer on NA Xbox server. My main toon WAS a tall and foxy redhead - now she has been gamma-irradiated and has green skin and black hair. 3 other characters I only use for writs. Can't be bothered to create multiple toons - EXCEPT now my WW is getting spooled up for Cyrodiil - Blood For The Pact! IRL cranky sometimes redhead chick at large in Las Vegas, NV

Yeah, you need at least GP Essential to play any multiplayer game as understand it.

They said they are going to make it free to play online without Game Pass with the next Xbox. But it's a couple of years away and looks like it'll cost more than any PC I ever bought.

Smart man, I’d cancel my Ultimate sub too if I didn’t still have 3 years on it.

That Steam Machine is looking mighty enticing. 😁

get 3 months of gamepass essential for the price of gamepass ultimate thats what I did, and no you wont lose access because ESO is available with all 3 gamepass options.

I might just do that. I already downgraded from ultimate to standard, then they renamed it and raised prices again. Not sure what else I might lose access to in the process though. Still, it seems like voting with our wallets is the only meaningful way to protest.
