Event…. can we just get a redo?

Just like hybridization/subclassing, can we just call it good and try again?

I have an idea for you ZOS, thought of it in the shower tonight.

“A World Changing Event” that you want players to feel rewarded/invested in.. let’s use the exact same concept and story but maybe a tweak here and there.

Each server is fighting to bring this wall down, okay. Kind of a race, that’s good. How about the top three players in each server get their handle on a monument once this whole shindig is completed.. those overland Alikr dolmen grinders could live on forever as legends of the writhing wall siege camps for destroying 5000 of them in a month, or whatever.

Then the same concept in the next phase, reward the top players that grind the content by immortalizing their wayshrine prowess and stronk heavy attacks.

The last phase is the biggest tweak, have a raid race per region and let the first team to clear it be the ones to actually bring down that wall and unlock the zone for their server. Characters allowed in raid have to have completed all other event content. This team would stand on the monument for their region.

And I’ll admit, I would not be competing for any of this cause I’m not a big PvEr, but it’d get people invested in your “Once in a lifetime event”. I’d watch that raid race on twitch.

Rewarding top players...no. This is supposed to be a cooperative event. Don't turn it into yet another pissing contest.

But rewards...yeah, they really fell down on that. I wish they'd take a page from other games and see how generous they are for special events. I don't understand why the philosophy here is to be so stingy with players. What would be so bad about showering players with stuff every once in a while, especially for a historic event? A historic event should have featured historic rewards. That would have generated a lot of excitement and participation. Instead it's been universally panned.

In the history of ESO, grinders/overland focused players have never had a shot at their name on a leaderboard cause it doesn’t exist for that type of gameplay. “Top” players in this instance wouldn’t be your regular competitive PvErs, it would be the folks who are literally grinding these camps and bosses.

    Sure on rewards.

Would create an unfair playing field. ESO has never really been about world firsts or rewarding extra grind and have actively taken steps to reduce the latter.

I'd like to see everyone that participated at least a little every day get something like a collectible banner that could be displayed in all their houses.

I agree with the caveat of a margin for real life concerns. For example: I've logged in every day I could for the event but my laptop literally broke last week, and I had to take it in for repair services. I lost two days of logins. But I've otherwise done nearly 100 Event Quests every single other day I could.

Losing the Daily Logins, Writ money, and even the shiny event coffers for a couple of days sucks, but isn't that big of a deal. I admit I'd be a little salty if I was locked out of a special, hitherto unannounced special reward because I was physically unable to login for exactly 2 days - the span of a single weekend - because real life is a thing that happens sometimes. And I can't possibly be the only one participating with a similar concern.

Surely there are multiple ways to rate "participation", here.

Good point. I edited to remove the every day part.

The competition is between servers, not between players on the same server. Competition has no place in a cooperative event.

And a PvE leaderboard like that would be meaningless. It would boil down to who has more time to play. And anyway, who would want to win "the best grinder," you know what I'm saying? Not a prize you want to win. It's not a good look.

There’s no amount of stuff they could give away that would incentivize me to grind endlessly during this event. I’m not sure what the thought process behind the timeline was, maybe making it long enough so people who took vacation would still have to time to participate. It’s been a little over a week and I’m ready to move on to phase 2. I got the purple fragments from drops and either got style pages or bought them, so there is no reason to keep going at this point other than just boring repetition.

What would be the unfair advantage? And yes ESO hasn’t been about worlds first in the past, it’s not a great past though. The studio head literally said people don’t know ESO exists still, a decade later. Their marketing and ability to pull viewership is awful.

The event is awful and needs something else. Freebies via rewards for heavy attacking dolmens mindlessly is great and all, but hardly a once in a lifetime event. And the logic of competition is bad, is,,, just bad logic. Sounds like a contradictory statement as well considering “the competition is between servers”. So we’re good with breaking lore and competing between the regional communities, but not between Tim and Johnny who are grinding dolmens until their eyes bleed. Got it.

Didn’t request a leaderboard, used it as an example of incentive.

While I agree this event has been a huge fail, I think that pushing even MORE competition would not help people cooperate.

At this point, they just need to push Eastern Solstice. END THIS PAIN.

Yeah, better rewards. We agree on that. We just disagree on what those rewards should be. For a cooperative event, the rewards shouldn't involve competition in any way.

If there's any bad logic here, it's you making the leap from "competition has no place in a cooperative event" to "competition is bad." One does not follow from the other.

Please start a poll/petition for this (as it's your idea!). LET THE PEOPLE VOTE FOR WHAT THEY REALLY WANT.

And the people want silly T-shirts. I mean "tunics".

I personally have no interest in a redo. This one was billed as a "once-in-a-lifetime" event, which unfortunately has turned out quite poorly. IMO, there's no do-over for these things, unless they're annual events. In that case, they'd need entirely new rewards. Just to defang the FOMO, I got all the styles and motifs off the guild traders. So for me, it's done at this point. Just in time for the Halloween event!

    I totally agree.

I've either got everything I wanted, or I don't care enough to bother any more. I had dropped down to collecting the three gold reward crates each day and I'm unlikely to do even that going forward. I wonder how many others feel the same - and how much the counter will slow down as a result.

I've said this before and maybe I sound like stuck record, but the content and direction in 2025 has been nothing short of awful. The new zone has been like one of the mini-DLCs from the good old days, this wall event has been so poorly planned it's almost funny, and the QoL improvements that we've come to expect in in lieu of new content haven't materialised either. If I could get my money back, I would.

The concept for the Writhing Wall event kind of reminds me of Invasions from New World. Only those are more fun.

There is more than enough conflict and bitter between players competing for meaningful things already, like in PvP, Emperor, Score Boards, bids on Trading Kiosks, sales, people working hard on meaningful person pursuits, other minor things in between. I'm not hating on the idea of this event; however I don't see the value in spending time squabbling with others over things like overland mob kills in Coldharbour. "That's my clannfear, that's my Daedra, not it's not its mine, get out of my way you weirdo!"

You know, the Caltrops Skin uh... what fresh hell is this? I thought it was going to be something cool like a bunch of skulls raining down, like an unofficial Necro skill. But this? No this is where we diverge because this is not good work. In fact, I really don't like this event at all, it's miserable to be fair and the rewards are NOT worth all this extra questing and turmoil with other players; Neither are they worth working for vs other non-event in-game rewards that already exist.

Again, I don't hate the idea of the event, but this implementation would be funny if it wasn't so terrible. Instead, I've been working on subclassing and making couple sales along the way. Much better use of my time and good things will come from it later.
