Skill leveling for a tank (heal)

Skill levelling got again quite important with subclassing. If you pick up a skill tree that you have not mastered you have to level it up again to unlock skills, morphs and passives.

This is really easy for a dd: Consume a learning scroll go to a place with a lot of low level npc (like that spot in carglorn, there are other places as well) where you collect a mob and then slay it down with added skills from the new tree. The more npc you kill the more exp you get and this is multiplied by the scroll learning factor.

If possible unlock and slot the green cp tree perk for additional 3% per stage exp gain.

In no time the skill tree is at level 50.

Now as a tank (or a heal) you don't have a lot of damage.

Consequence is: you cannot take as much mobs as a dd can. In addition you don't do much damage. So the exp grind this way is really really slow!

Now in general if I build a tank with subclassing I try to combine three trees that are good for tanking and ... not good for damage.

So all class skills available don't do much damage.

Of course I could put some skills from the weapon trees. But still I won't to as much damage as a pure dd could and hence level my skills slower.

Of course I could as well build a dd with 2 damage skill lines and one tank skill line that I want to level and do that. Then I swap the new skill tree with another skill tree for my tank and level this. Again this takes more time and costs at least 4500g (2x1500 and another 1500 to finish my tank build again after levelling is finished).

Another way is making quests, play dailies. It however takes quite some time.

Usually with a dd I would have finished my leveling in one evening. At the moment I am about level 30 for the skills for my tank after the same time spent.

Please offer some tank perks that allow leveling faster for tank (heal) skill lines. Taunting should give a small amount of exp. Taking damage without dying should give exp, maybe proportional to the damage taken without dying.

Wtb plaguebreak in PvE back. It solved this very problem since it did enough damage even as a non-DPS in extremely populated areas (ex. Skyreach).

Good God... people grinding low level mobs for xp, will it ever end? Craglorn, Black Rose, Skyreach, whatever. There is only one grind worth doing, and it's the Rolis Hlaalu grind. Grand xp scroll, writs, however many skills you want up to 50 in minutes. Minutes. DPS, healer, tank, Rolis doesn't care.

This isn't some secret. Is it? Do people really not know this? I'm asking, seriously.

Mob grinding. I see it in game, and I have to stop and shake my head. I guess some people just like to do it. Please yourself.

Once you level the subclass lines up on one character then you can equip them on any character. You dont have to level them again.
Just have 1 dd character and level all the skilllines on that.
I literally maxed 5 skilllines in 2.5 hours this morning and I did that without training gear.

I just spec them temporarily as a dps with a generic heavy attack setup and macabre or whatever. It helps if you unlock scribing early and slot all of the weapon lines to just level everything early on.

Master writs really are the best thing though, I maxed out all of my subclassing in a day or two for the most part.

Master writs are by far the fastest way to gain XP. However, not everyone have hundreds of writs saved. After master writs, it's BRP grind, and third place is Skyreach runs in which you actually need a second player so you can reset the instance. After the top 3, different overland mob runs, like in Craglorn.

I actually did some calculations when the subclassing was coming:

This assumes you have ESO+ and have the Disciplined Artisan CP. Also, ignore the last row -- ESO has a theoretical 290% XP boost cap but there is currently no way to reach that in-game.

The table also takes into account that you cannot immediately place all 5 skills and an ultimate on your bar, and also that you cannot place a new skill on the bar in the middle of getting XP. So the 6 skills column does count that you start with 1 skill, then 2, ulti, 3 skills, etc..

Now, when there's no double XP event going, it would take 26 master writs from 1 to 50 when using a 150% scroll. 40 if you do it with 3 skills. When you use 3 skills at a time, you can level 2 skill lines at the same time and 40 for 2 lines is less than 26 for one line. So it would be beneficial to level up 2 lines at the same time.

When you -- and if you want to level up all skill lines for all classes, you will -- run out of master writs, you need to level up the rest in some other way.

I did it in Skyreach with a friend. In BRP you have to pay attention at least a little bit. In Skyreach you can just chat with your friend on Discord and not really pay any attention to anything else than when to add the next skill on your bar. After levelling up Herald of the Tome (and other Arcanist skill lines - I used templar for that but you do whatever you like) I just used my arca, left beam on my bar and subclassed 2 skill lines at the same time. Reaving Blows CP is enough heal, training gear and beam away. No need for even cruxes so once you run out of bar space, feel free to replace flail with a subclass skill. Skyreach can be completed with only a beam. This way you don't need to care what the different skill lines do. If there happens to be some skill that might help you in Skyreach, by all means use it, but all you really need is the beam.

    Hi,

just put one skill of the new subclass on your level build. You can do anchors or dungeons or randoms or quests with a dd and one new tank skill on the bar. Works great for me. Does not have to be a dd. New ehal skill on tank or new dd skill on healer... works always.

Take all skill lines on a 1 bar DPS and level the skills that way. It's not that hard. I've had all my subclasses leveled up for a long time now. I don't level up my tank/heal subclasses on a tank or heal because that would take forever.

There's absolutely no need to level up subclassing with the corresponding roles the skill lines are designed for. You can use one toon to level up all but its own base class skill lines. The progress is account wide.

A suggestion for a build for levelling up subclassing in Skyreach:
    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Special:EsoBuildData?id=693580
Trying to keep this mainly crafted so it's easy and cheap to get. If you are drowning in transmutes you can of course replace Order's Wrath with Ansuul or Sul-Xan or any other set of your choice. I would still keep Heartland's Conqueror for the weapon trait buff for the extra xp.

You need a second player in Skyreach so you can reset the instance by disbanding the group and grouping again.

    Important CPs:
Blue - Reaving Blows - This is the only self-heal you really need.
Red - Bloody Renewal - This is the only sustain you really need.
Green - Discipline Artisan - To counteract the 15% subclass skill line XP gain debuff.
Green - The sneak related CPs - Easier to get past the low XP ghosts after the first pull.

6k pen out of 9.1k. If the other player has Caltrops or Boneyard, swap Valkyn Skoria with 1pc Slimecraw/Zaan. If still too much pen, can swap light shoulders/belt to medium. 41% crit will become 44% crit, with Slime/Zaan instead of Valkyn. If no monster available, can use 1pc Druid's Braid. Can use The Lover instead of The Thief if more pen is needed, but I doubt it. Even with underpenetration, the mobs die easy.

Can use Velothi instead of Oakensoul. In that case, you can have (but don't have to) Lightning Staff on back bar, with Inspired Scholarship for weapon damage buff (this you should in that case), and daggers/maces on the front. Might have to use crit potions for the crit buff. Use staff to pull enemies and swap to front bar when killing them. If you happen to have levelled up your Mora's Whispers for the 15% xp buff from monsters, that would be the most effective mythic for this purpose. But it's a bit of a pain to level so I made this build with Oakensoul.

If both monster and mythic are not available (or don't want to use transmutes), can use 2pc Diamond's Victory for weapon damage line instead. Or 2pc Threads of War for a pen line. (Aim is 9.1k pen and no more.)

Cephaliarch's Flail is there for cruxes but can be swapped to a subclassing skill when available. Those enemies are so weak cruxes are not really needed.

Swapping skill lines costs 1500 gold, or a respec scroll. There's 21 skill lines. If you pay for each skill line and swap them one by one, the max cost is 31.5k. The first skill line with the quest is free and if you only swap two skill lines at the time, the cost drops to 15k. That's one vet trial's worth of plunders. If you have extra respec scrolls, the cost drops 1.5k with each respec scroll you use.

    What to do, then?

Arcanist is the easiest option for this levelling. Race doesn't matter. Take your arcanist and save your current build in the Armory. (Free in Crown Store) Then load the other build that comes with Armory to "reset" your build for free. You can then build this build. Once you are done with subclass levelling, you can reload the original build from the Armory.

When starting levelling, first use your non-Arcanist crafter to make all the master writs you have. Level up Arcanist skill lines since you cannot level subclassing with your base class. If you didn't manage all three skill lines, use a different class to level up the Arcanist skill lines. Keep levelling subclass lines until all master writs are gone. Remember to use XP scroll, preferably 150%.

After that take this build, (150%) XP scrolls and a friend to Skyreach Catacombs. Subclass two skill lines and add the skills to your bar when they become available. Don't forget about the ulti. When both subclass lines are 50, replace both of them at a shrine or with a respec scroll. If one line becomes 50 before the other, just replace the already levelled skill line's skills with the one that is not yet 50 until both lines are 50.

    Rinse and repeat.

It's tedious, but takes only a few days of grinding. Once done you don't have to do it again.
