imo (and this feeling has evolved over the last 30+ years of mmo gaming) currently we are expected to get less, pay more and have our concerns and insights ignored.
i'm expressing this sentiment after reading a few threads complaining about the current event. imo this is the 3rd event where the ball was dropped. the rewards are (again) not adequate.

i like being able to do event dailies even though i don't have the solstice expac. so there's a positive.
Still, i get the feeling zos doesn't want to hear us.

You've had nature explained to you and you're bored with it, you've had the living body explained to you and you're bored with it, you've had the universe explained to you and you're bored with it, so now you want cheap thrills and, like, plenty of them....

i think it's more than the rewards not being good enough. the entire thing is tedious, repetitive quests.

i don't know what people who think these things up are thinking, if anything.

It's simply cost cutting measures in an increasingly expensive world. Remember when every Chapter came with a custom Cinematic from Blur? Now we get in-engine cinematics ZOS can throw together in house.

Then there's the layoffs, content with reused assets, Quest writing feeling less in depth, and Chapters being replaced with Season Passes like every other online service game. I'm continuing to hold on because I've invested 10 years of my life into ESO and I'm going to ride this out until the Servers go offline, but even still I'm not oblivious to the changes.

An hr to do a quest where the reward is a box of 20 ores or cloth is a ripoff. I could go to any beginner area and have the 20 ores in 2 mins.

I downgraded all my characters’ crafting levels so I could burn through all my stored calcinium, voidstone etc. instead of rubedite I might actually use for writs. I’ll bump it back up when I’m out of space or done with the dailies to convert the rewards to rubedite. That’s going to be the highlight of the event for me sadly.

It really is cost cutting. I work for a tech company that's laid off 10s of thousands of people in the last 2 years, and more are on the way. Been waiting for the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel" for a while now, but have come to the conclusion this is just the new normal -- individuals working jobs that used to be delegated to teams, non-essential passion projects de-funded, etc.

    It's sad but true.

Considering how some things that we really wish for are achievable by merely tweaking numbers, I feel they are not treating us fairly. There are some topics with a high degree of community consensus that could be fixed right away without messing up the live version. They could even do popularity polls and dev moderated topic discussions. But they just don't do it. This isn't to say they can't have the last word, but it just comes across as disinterest in their customers and even their own product.
Thousands of people are putting this game away because combat balance is unsatisfying and it would be so painfully easy to remedy. But instead they choose to let months and years pass. This could literally be a one man job.

I appreciate the class related poll, but due to the nature of the questionnaire there were some pressing topics that did not get touched sufficiently. I just hope they use that as a basis for good decision making and not as an excuse for inaction. Going by the quality of the implementation of this years main feature (no class lore-based quests, only a single NPC with a respec menu instead of e.g. master trainers, no proper engagement with balancing, etc.) I am not too optimistic. Lucky for them that the competition is also not doing much better.

Yeah no, because Once Human produced a game with more players than ESO and charge NOTHING for the game.

100% agree with you on this.

Sometimes I feel like I can't find the proper words to express myself and say how uncomfortable I feel with the direction ZOS and ESO are taking. But yeah, there are a lot of things to say about the global prices, the new content, etc.

If you go back to 2017, here is what we got in a year:
    • housing feature
    • new class
    • new amazing chapter for the TES license fans
    • one of the best extensions ever
    • two trials
    • two dungeons
    • battlegrounds
    • Transmutation system
    • etc.

You barely get that much content if you pack 2024 and 2025 together... but you still pay more.

I am usually pretty positive. But yeah it is all very lackluster, especially for people like me who paid for the content pass. I think this has been the most disappointing year in ESO since I started playing right before Blackwood. I will probably not be buying what comes next after this for a good long while unless it is something completely fresh and new.

It also didn't help for me they dropped this 'event' on the day New World made their previous expansion totally free and introduced another free zone that is 5 times as big as solstice filled with stuff to do, a new raid and something like infinite archives.

I might be wrong, but I don't think you needed to do that. At least, the NPC who gives out the crafting dailies specifically says that you can use any material you want. The crafting station defaults to your current crafting rank's level material if you've got the filter set to the "quest" option, but I suspect that you could deselect that option, pick whichever material you'd prefer to use, and it will still count toward completing the quest. I'll give it a try Tuesday when I'm doing the event dailies to see if it works.

    Edit: Correction.

I was expecting a massive invasion, but instead it was just dolmens 2.0.

Theres better games out there that are one time buy, with optional seasonal passes that do not hide content behind a paywall. If this game was not elder scrolls and some other fantasy world not as interesting, it would have been shut down after launch.

By all means check! I last messed around with it on the PTS and it seemed to be requiring whatever your highest level of crafting material was and giving your highest level back in resources from the boxes but that was weeks ago. They might have changed it, and while I doubt I’m the only one with a bunch of otherwise-useless respec scrolls sitting around I’m sure there are people who don’t have extra scrolls to burn too.

He'd be fired in a couple of months for having ideas and opinions radically against the company's "vision".

As usual, the event favors people with many characters, and even moreso people with more than one account.

Why farm these horrible quests that force people to compete with one another, when I can relog to a different alt and pump out a few dozen crafting quests in a handful of minutes. Why grind for coffers with trash in them when I can log to a different account and get a fresh batch of golden boxes.

They don't care. They're getting engagement. That's all they aim for. Whether said engagement is frustrating or pleasing to the players/clients means nothing to them when they have the numbers of a million bajillion quests done. Record broken. Best event ever. Numbers numbers numbers.

I'd like to see the numbers if people were allowed to leave a rating for it.

My crafter is at max rank for materials and I tried doing the first tier and it didn’t complete the quest. I had to decon those pieces and craft in rubedite, rubedo, ruby ash.

So the npc line about using any material is not correct.

I think that that’d just a line so non-crafters can also contribute. The quest asks you to make the tier you have access to, just like daily writs.

This is the worst wall-based media since Nostalgia Critic.

But really... I was already fed up enough to not renew my subscription, but this "event" not only makes me SO glad I didn't buy solstice, but disheartens me from the game as a whole. If it weren't for the guilds I enjoy being a part of and playing with I'd be gone tbh. The pure contempt ZOS has for its playerbase (especially PvP, who was the wah wah lady in that stream again...) is exemplified by this event and the fact that it was marketed as "massive" when the playerbase has been making the same fixable complaints since I started playing regularly in 2020.

Title of the thread says it all.

I agree with you here. For me, the only way to express my displeasure was to unsub and just not participate. I'd love to have the Stirk motif, but I'd also love to not feel like the time I have away from my job is to a an even more tedious job. I cannot fathom why ZOS designers thought whatever this is would be fun for players, but I cannot give them my small engagement input for it. What a disappointment.

This year has been shockingly bad.

Tiny map, disappointing main quest line (incredibly repetitive like never before, limited QoL improvements, and I could go on.

The “main event” is boring, badly organised, and the rewards don’t match the effort.
