People have been running the same dungeons for years, why is it a surprise that they don’t want to spend more time than they have to in content that hasn’t been updated in 9 years?

The event doesn't require players to farm FG1. If it's so old and boring, there are newer dungeons to run. A couple just in the last month or so, and a couple more a few months before that.
I have been queueing with my addon to specifically fill in missing quests and stickerbook items, which has been amazing with the quick runs on normal. Usually I would do vets, but I don't trust the queue during the event. I have mostly been running alts using sergeants mail and spell power cure. Leveling random skills and having fun for the most part.

Which addon is this? Sounds awesome!

But if the event is flawed badly enough that we need to change dungeons... then I would rather not have the event.

I don't know which addon the OP uses, but I use DungeonQ4Stickerbook. It gives you an easy way to queue for missing sets and missing quests, and differentiates between DLC and base game dungeons. Works great!
I would so love for slaughterfish to be added into fungal grotto. No patch notes either, make it a hotfix and tell no one about it.

And if someone falls in the water accidentally? I do this from time to time when running over the bridge. Besides, do you really want to deal with the Ciirenas the Shepard in FG2 and players that do not follow mechs every time you land there?
They can make all bosses drop event things if the issue is skipping the bosses.

That is a great idea!!! But they should make it so that the small part leading from the last bridge to the cave is not affected. Also, in addition to that they should also *fix* the terrain so that players can only get out of the water at the cave entrance, which leads back to the entrance of the dungeon.
In general they should rework some of the dungeons and fix all those terrain exploits and stuff which should not be skippable (eg. CoA2 the part where you can walk through the lava and move up the hill - shortcut, FG1&2 jumping down the waterfall and swimming to the boss at the end jumping up the terrain near the bridge, WS skipping the boss in the side room, CoH skipping the boss on the balcony, and so on).
Regarding the *speed-running*. Sadly I think there is no real good and easy to implement solution to that. Everything has its pros and cons. My personal favorites atm are the following to solutions I would like to see!
- Make it so that if you skip lets say more than 10-15% of the adds and bosses all skipped mobs and bosses will spawn at the boss the group is pulled to (joining encounter) and add to ALL npcs, incl. the bosses, a 500% damage buff. With that the group will be wiped for sure and would need to restart the dungeon at the begining, killing everything
.
- Make it so that a boss will only drop loot IF the boss before it was killed (excluding special bosses some dungeons do have). You could combine this with an addition to the daily and undaunted quests - making it so that the quests do count through each boss (except the special ones) and only if you killed all of them you will complete the quest and receive your rewards
