ESO on an iMac running Monterey

I have come back to ESO after a three year break and after upgrading my Mac to OS Monterey. I can load ESO, but the game is unplayable, as almost none of the commands work. I understand from online searches that the native Mac client no longer works with OS Monterey, and that I must use Crossover. I have two questions:
1. Is the game actually and truly playable with Crossover?
2. I f I go that route, will I have to download the entire game all over again, as what I have on my hard drive is of course the Mac version?
3. Is the only other option to use Bootcamp? And if so, as per 2, above, must I re-download?
