There have been a number of reports of setting ports to those specified by this ESO Support kb article, helping resolve some connection errors;
WHAT PORTS DO I NEED TO OPEN TO ACCESS THE GAME?
Updated 04/30/2014 10:08 PM Published 02/15/2013 07:46 PM
To best access The Elder Scrolls Online, players should configure their routers to open the following outbound ports:

TCP / UDP Ports 24100 through 24131
TCP / UDP Ports 24500 through 24507
TCP / UDP Ports 49100 through 54000
I believe the Launcher install uses other ports but I can’t find any reference for those.
EDIT: ports for Launcher added 49100 > 54000:

    @Moonraker I'm not positive on this but could people having trouble connecting use the Network Utility /Port Scan on their router IP to determine if it is open or closed?

    Since I am currently using my iPhone as a hot spot I can't test this

    I have a question for you guys...I am not a network kinda guy...but from 8/9pm my time till nearly 11:30pm the game becomes unplayable because of LAG..litterally 10 seconds of lag...every night since the early launch...but at any other time during the day I have no lag(or usual lag). Is there anything I can do on my end to fix this problem please send me a message its pretty damn annoying

    Quite possibly. I use;

    Activity Monitor > select the ZeniMax Online Studios Launcher process and click the 'i' button above to open the process window > Open Files and Ports

    Then just check down the open ports & IP addresses.

    Just the way I do it as I tend to have AM open most of the time. I had some Terminal commands but can't find them right now.

    It is using several as it has the newsfeed etc. on the Launcher window. You would need to check it while downloading to see what ports it uses then.

    So for me with it just launched and idle I see:
    192.168.1.10:57715->ec2-54-243-115-56.compute-1.amazonaws.com:http
    192.168.1.10:57927->server-54-239-158-239.cdg51.r.cloudfront.net:http
    192.168.1.10:57940->a23-200-86-217.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com:http
    192.168.1.10:57941->a23-200-86-217.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com:http
    192.168.1.10:57926->ec2-54-217-220-128.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com:http
    192.168.1.10:57937->a23-200-86-217.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com:http
    192.168.1.10:57940->a23-200-86-217.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com:http
    192.168.1.10:57936->a23-200-86-217.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com:http

    So a different port range from the game to the download sites. And not helped directly by the ports they state for the actual game. I did make a ticket but received nothing back on it other than copy/ paste of ports I sent them ^^

    It would be good to a post of the tools people could use to check their connections. I'm guess that a lot of the ones using College networks are having the ports blocked at the router level.

    @Zelus Do you by chance use a cellular connection?

    I noticed that it had a couple of connections open where it was talking to port 80 on the server. At the time it was downloading game updates.

    Treat it like a web browser would be my first guess.

    It could be your ISP throttling down/up speeds at their peak times.

    It's possible but also something which can be checked with a traceroute to the game server. It also does depend it seems on which Megaserver you use (i.e. Europe server still in USA currently does add to potential latency and network complications)

    I suspect it's related to the server-side issues which have been posted a lot on other threads. Especially at peak times.

    First thing to do is eliminate any connection issues from computer > game server including computer > router > network (ISP included) > login server >game server.
