What I find most offensive, ZOS is your continual catering to known cheaters who have been removed from the game but return years later after what ever ban time you think is acceptable. I don't believe in bringing cheaters back. I don't believe they change they're play style and it's the number one reason I leave Elder Scrolls online for years at a time. Please reconsider what you think is proper etiquette in such situations. More heavy handed games are more successful then here. There is no naming and shaming policies so I will not name names but they are back.

Nice and sunny, a perfect day!
All clear skies, not a cloud in sight.
Mild breeze blowing, gentle and warm.
Evening brings cool air, a pleasant night.

    Thunder rumbles in the distance.
Heavy rain begins to pour down.
    Evening storm is finally here.
Moist air hangs thick and close.

Should ZOS remove their hands so they can never cheat on a video game again? Getting permanently banned and having to start over on a new account seems like a pretty reasonable price to pay.

What a terrible thought. Who would want real harm to come to anyone over games? Just not wanting to play with them is all. Which usually means needing to leave again until they get recaught. My grievance is with ZoS alone on this.

If people are cheating or otherwise violating the ToS, report them?

There's only so much ZoS can do - perhaps ZoS could do more to keep banned players from returning on a new account - I don't really know and that certainly isn't up to me; but the problem is that if someone's determined, it's just not really that difficult for them to change their IP address / device / location / email and billing info / etc., and create a new account.

If the issue is that zos is unbanning the same accounts that were previously perma-banned, I mean depending on the severity of the offense I don't think that's a good policy yeah, but on the flip side, people sometimes get bans over fairly minor things or due to mistakes and there needs to be a process to review such things. Overall, without any real details it's hard to offer much insight.

Yeah, that's why I asked. It's a ridiculous situation. You want a more permanent end to cheaters but ZOS can't do more beyond permanently banning accounts. There's no need to worry about a past cheater coming back on a new account until they actually cheat again. They have already been punished by ZOS for their past actions and have to redo their account progress.

After all the erroneous AI generated bans earlier this year and all the hassles innocent customers had to deal with, I'm not sure how many bans now days are actually earned.

There's only so much ZoS can do.

One thing they could do is move their anti-cheat detection from server to client-side. It's one of the causes of the performance problems in PvP - the server is constantly validating and comparing data to detect cheating.

since ive come to pc from playstation, i have been banned a few times. most of them via the mass report feature in pvp, for doing nothing more than winning a fight(one ban was justifiable the rest was blatant abuse).

this is extremely common. look at popular streamers sekaar and reactfaster..... both of them also victims of this nonsense... both lost their appeals. victims of the mob reporting them for being good. (reported for name violation, they had their names stolen from them because people were upset they lost in pvp)

i could make a list of at LEAST 10 other people i know who got this treatment.

    win a 1vx

    get mass reported

    lose your name.

also this counts as a strike on your account, with 3 strikes you can be permabanned.

they should start banning people who are abusing the system and weaponizing it against other players. this is disgusting behavior and should not be rewarded.

    hackers should be hardware banned.

You cant control cheaters. You can only control how you respond to cheaters.

I am not saying they do or do not exist. I am only saying that you can choose to get upset or choose to move on and enjoy the game if you feel you have encountered one. Anyone who does cheat, if they exist, have enough character issues as it is to spend time finding ways to cheat at a game... or anything in life for that matter. Let it go. Be the bigger person.

    We're PvPer's.

    They TELL us they're back.

Rule Number 1 of Networked Software: Never trust the client. If it runs on the client it can be circumvented. Period.

As it is, they still run some calculations (mostly for movement) on the client and then semi-authoritatively correct on the server. And it already causes issues and has circumventions. That being said, I think it's probably still the best way to go considering how much smoother movement tends to appear to the user. Regardless, the validation is going to be operationally insignificant. Skills and sets are what require the most work.

That doesn't mean ZoS has a policy to unban players after a few years. Where is ZoS's word on this?

This is probably true; however, I suspect Zos doesn't care. The players come back and change 1 letter in their name. Some have bragged and logged in with 5 or more consecutively named accounts in a matter of days if not hours.

    lol You win.

A technical argument that means nothing to the players subject to the abuse. The devs could do better. They don't.

I'm old so my memory might be questionable, but didn't it start off that way and zos changed it due to rampant cheating?

then YOU should REPORT them for that act alone harassing YOU ... BUT not all returning ex-banded accounts are cheaters , BUT THEY have 1 thing in common ANY RE-TRUING ACCOUNT is on LAST CHANCE so 1 report thats VALID and their GONE !!!!! and i dont think the head of the support teams one to like someone taunting players with being let back into the game

as an player with many accounts i can stay ZOS can take care of any and all of them in one shot part of the TOS covers SAME NAME accounts as well as any KNOWN sub-account's so be detailed in your reports and stay on-top of them and you should get an outcome IF what you say is VALID zos can pull up chat logs and see everything we've ever said in chat so just give dates and time and be detailed about your issues
