PS add-ons that are out of date

I’m kind of new to this sort of thing, but before I could see if an add-on was out of date on the Manage my Add-on page on the character creation screen, and I didn’t see this today. I thought it had a column with words in red to indicate if they were out of date before. However, I noticed that many mat nodes did not have an icon above them today after the update, and if I go to that page it says that several add-ons are out of date when you highlight them. If I go to the Browse Add-on page and click R1 to get to Installed Add-ons, I can reinstall but they do not show they are out of date.

Either something is not working quite right or I need to do something different. At the very least the info presented in the two different areas does not match. Any help is appreciated.

If you're referring to the node markers from Harvestmap, they were working for me today after the update no problem.

And while I didn't have any Out of Date addons, I did see a bunch with updates available not long after the servers came back up.

[edit] Forgot to point out that I'm on PSNA server, but you already know that. :)

yes this is because we just had update 47 launch so all add-ons are out of date.

we simply have to wait for the add-on authors to update them.

Not necessarily. Addons are only considered out of date when the the addon API's are updated to a new version. I dunno that the APIs saw a version bump. I am under the impression that there are different API's for different types of tasks, so as not to instantly out of date every addon when only a few would be affected. But could be wrong.

The "Out of Date" tag is only looking at the API Version # in the addon info. For this update, that is 101047. This is something easily changed on PC in a text editor, but I don't know how you would do that on consoles.

Since the addons are integrated into our game on PS, I think we have to wait until they are provided in our interface on the character logon screen.

Well they are working, but as I mentioned I did a mat farm today and saw some nodes that were there but did not have the HarvestMap icons on them. Not all, but a few. I was running the route I’ve been doing for years without an addon and knew where they could be so if someone who was not familiar with that route might not notice.

    I’ve never seen that before.

Also new to Add-Ons (XBX) - When an add-on gets an update, does it update automatically in the background, or am I going to have to go and manually click on an update button somewhere like with mods on Skyrim etc?

So, I had this on PS NA yesterday and was highly confused for a moment. I even had a notification warning me that my add-ons were out-of-date.

Apparently, there's two ways to see this, which is weird:

    1. Go to the add-on store and scroll down. It will say Installed or Update next to add-ons you have installed and ones installed which need updating. You can update from here. But sometimes add-ons need updating and DON'T indicate it here.

    SO

    2. If you go to the Manage Add-Ons area of the Add-Ons store area, I had a few with giant red text saying out of date due to needing a whole new "library" or whatever they are called to be installed. Apparently, this does not happen automatically and doesn't even warn you in the add-on store itself. I only could see it in that Manage Add-Ons area of the store (and not your Manage Add-Ons area of the Add-On menu of what you personally have installed, where you set your add-on settings themselves, because having two submenus with the same name isn't confusing in the slightest, right?). When I looked there, my market trader and Lazy Writ Crafter were in red and needed stuff like LibFree and some other LibWhatever to be installed, so I searched those library names in the store, installed them, and reload UI.

Everything worked fine after that, and I also haven't had the Auto-Save Error yet (that is supposedly fixed now), so that was a plus.

Psna here. I had to re download libmap pins. For some reason it was not there anymore but that was it. I didn't have an issue with nodes not being marked. I would look again and see if maybe you're not missing something.

As long as the console version of the game still loads them, many will probably be fine there, too.

Are all of you on PS sure this is not happening to you?

I don’t see a Harvest Map icon for some but the new distance indicator shows them on the compass and I can harvest them.

You get used to just going for the icons and they are bright and can keep you from seeing those that do not have an icon.

I just now ran around to test it. I found that if in Harvest Map you turn off "Display Pins On Compass" you'll still get the distances on your compass even though the pins aren't displayed. But other than that it works just fine.

I have the U47 Tweaker addon, so I usually have the distances toggled off default.

Any chance is the issue you're having localized to Solstice? I just didn't happen to run around in that zone yesteday. Today thoough is different.

I'm finding that Harvest Map is having issues in that Solstice. For me none of the pins show up on the Main Map. It works just fine in every other zone though.

No, I was farming in Craglorn.

I uninstalled all addons and then installed only HarvestMap and Murf’s Treasures but the problem still exists.

Update: it looks like there was an update sometime after I logged out last night and before I logged in this morning. There are now new icons and the map pin is a 3D cone shape now instead of the 2D double arrow shown above. I can also state that the missing icons are no longer a problem. I did a thorough hour-long farming run and every one was marked. I don’t know if the update was a result of this post of just a coincidence but I appreciate it all the same. Thank you.

I do have some feedback for ZOS regarding the implementation of the addon system on PS. It’s really nice that it is integrated right in and we don’t have to go to an external site to get them, but it is very hard to get them working on only one character, if that is what you want. I selected the pull-down option to only make them visible on my main character, but all of them had them enabled anyway. I had to then log into every single other character and disable them from the Options menu. I now notice that it indicates (on the character select page) that they are not enabled on my main character but if I enable them they are turned off. This is very confusing. I don’t know why this would be the case. I guess it is assumed that most players will enable addons on all characters.

Addon option access shows up in multiple places, both on the character selection screen and as a menu option for each character. It might be better to remove the Manage My Addons page off the character selection page because it does not seem to be working properly, and because it is redundant. Everything could be managed from the Selected Addons page of the Browse Addons or from each character menu. Unless I am missing something or am still confused myself, simpler is better.

I am genuinely glad you have brought addons to console as it has improved my gameplay experience greatly. I think with just a few tweaks it could be much easier to use when getting started and whenever updates come along. Thanks again.

Yes, this is a new feature in the HarvestMap add-on. Go to your Add-On settings (where you select Activity Finder, Social, etc), at the top there are selections to change the bottom pin icon (toggle cone, diamond, off), and top pin icon via compass, via map, via 3D in-game world (toggle on, off), it may be you were in a transition state where your pins were toggled to an off setting making the them appear invisible. It may happen again in future when another update is pushed out so check this setting first.

U47 introduced distance markers that by default cannot be removed unless using another add-on “Update 47 Tweaker”.

As far as I can remember, HarvestMap doesnt remove the distance markers, so even if you selected off for everything, the icons will be hidden (because of HarvestMap), but the distance markers on every node will still be visible on compass (because of HarvestMap + U47 default). Edit: this was true in HarvestMap version 3.16.4, and is now fixed in version 3.16.5 released Sep 5 - distance markers no longer appear on any nodes toggled on or off.
.., but it is very hard to get them working on only one character, if that is what you want. I selected the pull-down option to only make them visible on my main character, but all of them had them enabled anyway. I don’t know why this would be the case. I guess it is assumed that most players will enable addons on all characters.

Just wanted to share my thought process and routine for managing add-ons on 17 characters. Please note this is not a challenge or refuting of what your said - non-verbal communication can exclude nuances, so read this in a polite, discussive tone.

While on the Select Character screen,

Manage My Add-Ons : this page is used to enable / disable Add-Ons account-wide - a master on / off switch for installed add-ons across all characters on the account. Think of this as a residential breaker box supplying electric power to your rooms.

Browse Add-Ons -> Browse All Add-Ons / Installed Add-Ons : this page is used to find, install and uninstall add-ons.

They serve 2 different functions, and the confusion might be reduced if ZOS renamed them plainly as:
    * “Enable/Disable Installed Add-Ons”, and
    * “Browse/Install/Uninstall Add-Ons” instead.

Via the Select Character screen, Manage My Add-Ons page is useful for reducing tedium for intial add-on setups across your characters, account-wide.
    - If all characters perform all exact same functions, then all add-ons may be enabled here.
    - If they perform partially similar functions, then the common denominator add-on (eg Minimap) may be enabled account-wide with the rest initially disabled, and re-enabled case-by-case per toon.
    - If every one performs a totally different function, then all add-ons may be intially installed but disabled account-wide, and enabled case-by-case per character.

When already logged onto any character,

Manage My Add-Ons : this page is used to enable / disable Add-Ons for that character alone, independently - add-ons enabled / disabled here do not affect any other characters on the account. Think of this as the power or light switches within one (1) room.

However! Browse Add-Ons -> Browse All Add-Ons / Installed Add-Ons : this page is used to find, install and uninstall add-ons, and functions the same as per Select Character screen. Any installs, re-installs, uninstalls, updates made here will be applied for all characters across the entire account.

Example. My 17 characters perform partially similar functions, so they do not need all installed add-ons all enabled or all disabled. I have 20+ Add-Ons and 20+ Libraries.

Common denominator for all 17 are: HarvestMap, Minimap, LazyWrit and Abah’s Appraiser. These are enabled on Manage My Add-Ons, together with all Libraries. Everything else is set to disabled.

First group of 5 toons do crafting, trials, dungeons, some PVP and zone dailies. Once logged in to each, I enable CrutchAlerts, AK’s Attributes, Fancy Action Bar, QAutoConfirm, StayMounted, Market Tracker, TSC Price Fetcher for them.

Within these 5 is my main grand master crafter, which after login to character, I additionally enable 702’s Master List, Writ Cost Calculator. These are not enabled on any of the other 16 toons.

Next group of 6 toons only do crafting. These are already configured for this function via Manage My Add-Ons, nothing further needed to enable after character login.

Last group of 6 toons are still doing mount training so for them, after login, I additionally enable Lazy Horse Trainer.

This concept may also be extended to alternate accounts. Ive detailed in a separate thread how Add-Ons should be handled in alt accounts, but in brief these have the exact same set of Add-Ons installed but not all enabled .

The first group of 3 accounts serve Guild Trader functions. Through Manage My Add-Ons, only Market Tracker, TSC Price Fetcher, Minimap, HarvestMap, and Lazy Writ are enabled, with all Libraries, but everything else installed but disabled.

Next few accounts are there only to help with Guild Bank membership, so for them only Minimap, HarvestMap, Abah’s Appraiser and LazyWrit are needed. Everything else is installed but disabled.

Yes, I forgot to mention that the distance markers for all mat nodes are now gone. Thank goodness.

I am certain that I did just as you described, get the addons from Browse, then select only my main character to enable them. I suppose enabling them from whichever page enabled them for all instead though, from what you are saying.

I’m not sure I want to get mucking around there again. If I have to uninstall and reinstall I’ll try it again. It is working for now.

It still seems like having three places to make changes to addons is superfluous. There is Manage and Browse/Installed and also under Options for each character. Couldn’t the Manage operations be moved to Installed, or just not enable them until you log onto a character?

    Thanks.

There are only 2 places to access the Add-On menu and sub-menus.

    1. From the Select Character screen, before logging into any character

    1a. Options, Add-ons, Manage My Add-Ons: enable/disable installed add-ons across all characters,
    1b Options, Add-ons, Browse Add-Ons (sub-menu Browse All Add-Ons / Installed Add-Ons): find/install/uninstall add-ons across all characters

    2. After logging into any character, when on that character in the 3D world

2a. Options, Add-ons, Manage My Add-Ons: enable/disable installed add-ons for that character alone,
    2b. Options, Add-ons, Browse Add-Ons (sub-menu Browse All Add-Ons / Installed Add-Ons): find/install/uninstall add-ons across all characters

    Manage is for enable/disable.
    Browse is for find/install/uninistall.
They serve different functions. I suppose putting them into different places elevates this distinction. Yes, shifting Manage into Browse could be done and thats a design choice. IMO “manage” is a poor word choice as it can mean so many things, including install and uninstall. It would be better to name it for what it is.

For the use case, to “… just not enable them until you log onto a character“, this is achieved via -

    While on Character Select screen,
1a. Options, Add-ons, Manage My Add-Ons: disable all installed add-ons across all characters,
Then after logging onto any character,
2a. Options, Add-ons, Manage My Add-Ons: enable specific installed add-ons for that character alone.

    (Corrected my reply).

No, you can. This last part describes exactly how to do this.

Disable all on all characters, then enable on specific characters.
    While on Character Select screen,
1a. Options, Add-ons, Manage My Add-Ons: disable all installed add-ons across all characters,
Then after logging onto any character,
2a. Options, Add-ons, Manage My Add-Ons: enable specific installed add-ons for that character alone.
