QoL suggestion: Toggle switch to use materials from inventory before craftbag

I'm a master crafter and even though I have never regretted spending the necessary time to achieve this, I very rarely craft. Especially for others. However much I would like to.

The reason is simple: Whenever I craft anything, the necessary items are taken from the craftbag, even though I would have them in the inventory. If I craft for others and they provide the necessary mats, those would just end up clogging up my inventory.

What I would like to see and thus am asking for is a toggle switch akin to the one for Crown Soul Gems, where you can prefer those over regular ones. Something like: Prefer inventory over craftbag.

Now, I'm fairly certain the way it currently works is deliberate, but perhaps ZOS has pity on us anyway. What do you say, @ZOS_Kevin, is that something you could be open to?

And yes, I'm the lowliest of filthy casuals in that I do not have ESO+ but avail myself of the opportunity of free trials. Mea culpa!

It really wouldn't be interesting for ZoS, economically speaking.
The very fact that you empty your craftbag before you fill your regular, limited, inventory, is designed to make the craftbag appealing, therefore to make you subscribe to ESO+ so you can put materials in it.

Without ESO+, you depend on a bank, house chests and maybe mule characters that have limits, and once you reach these limits, you deal with the problem anyway you want, but the problem will still exist sooner or later.

Like I wrote, I believe that it currently works as intended. I'm also pretty certain that my suggestion will be ignored. However, if you don't ask you won't get a reply. And you certainly will not affect any change.

Yeah, look, the Crafting bag is one of the best perks for having ESO+, especially now that new content is coming in the form of this content pass thing, so future DLC zones and dungeons will no longer be included in ESO+ from the start, so yeah, the crafting bag is the winner here.

If you are crafting for someone just put their Mats into a storage chest. When a free trail comes around pull all the Mats in chests into your inventory.

Don't even need to do that. The game will automatically move items from storage chests & the bank into the craft bag. Not sure that one needs to visit a player home where the chests are located, but it doesn't hurt to do that. The thing to remember is to /reloadui or switch characters after activating the ESO+ trial.

At any rate, the idea would be nice. But I can understand why they do not do it. I certainly wouldn't have subbed the few times I have if it weren't for the craft bag access. That said, if they had a special companion or furnishing which could only be purchased with crowns while having an ESO+ subscription and that companion or furnishing's functionality was to provide storage of materials to the craft bag for a gold sink fee when ESO+ was inactive, they might consider doing that. They'd at least get the initial ESO+ sales and possibly additional sales to have the correct # of crowns to obtain said companion or furnishing.

I thought it already did this. Did it change at some point?

I would like this too! There’s a toggle to access banked items or not and I would like this for materials — then I don’t have to keep track of what was sent me or not to know if I’m short or have extra to send back, etc.

Yeah, I also thought it pulls from inventory before craftbag. This should be simple to check, so I'll test it later if I remember.

I'm pretty sure that stolen items get used up before non-stolen items, such as stolen style mat fragments when refining style mats, or stolen lockpicks when picking or forcing locks.

But I'm not sure about non-stolen mats that are in inventory versus in the craftbag.

If it does turn out that the craftbag always has priority over inventory, it might be part of the logic related to (1) keeping mats that we've retrieved from our craftbag from automatically going back into it, and/or (2) the way the contents of the craftbag are handled when our ESO Plus subscription is no longer active.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!
