Killing Questers - I think I owe someone and apology

This Mayhem I've spend a decent amount of time protecting questers in IC as well as a bit in Cyro. Not as much as I usually do, because life's been lifeing on me. Needless to say, I'm team don't kill questers. I have in the past admonished other pvpers for killing questers.

To those PvPers I say: I'm sorry. You have a right to play your way.

This Mayhem I've accidentally killed two questers. Both of which responded by verbally abusing me. The first, we sorted it out. The second, just got uglier and uglier until I just ignored.

My ever-so-patient partner said: I think... you might have learned that not all questers are worthy of your protection. And they are right.

Will I still protect questers? Yes, I will. But the next one that lambastes me will simply get the following response: No crying in PvP.

And I have left this Mayhem with a greater understand of the complaints of PvPers that I didn't understand before.

Last Mayhem I was running around with over 20k stones in my pocket. A guy popped me while I was killing something. He felt really bad and offered to go buy items and send them to me so I could get my stones back. I told him nope he won fair and square and it was my fault for not keeping shields up.
So there is good and bad in Imperial City on both sides of the PvP/PvE thing.

Probably frowned upon as bad behavior but long ago I used to keep a Spidersilk Kerchief in my inventory. When I would get particularly bad hate from a player (rarely happened) I killed I would link that to them and say it was for their tears. One of the responding tirades was truly epic.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Just pvp in offline mode. Then you dont have to deal with hate whispers and possible social bans.

Does getting ganked while you are loading in at a door count as PvP?

Very noble of him. Sometimes it happens to me that I catch a (PVE) quester with several thousand Tel Var. In that case, I thank them politely and give them advice on how to get out of IC via the Cyrodiil port.
Usually, the players are grateful for the advice, and good conversations develop.
I think it's legitimate and not reprehensible in PVP to kill PVE questers (at least once) to get their Tel Var treasure ;-)

I was logged w the killing blow. They would have seen my name in the kill feed. My name is straight forward, just letters no accents.

    They whispered me.

Toxicity on both sides of the argument I would say.

Not all PvP players gank questers.

Not all questers are deserving of protection.

As a casual PvP player myself I am incapable of defending myself, let alone others, but I do try to leave questers and those who are collecting skyshards etc alone.

Never had anyone protecting me, but I would appreciate that for sure. I do hate those who attacks me and sometimes I text something in a chat like what's your problem. It's no fun to run to the objective over and over again without reaching it because some *** won't let me. Or when I'm bussy fighting a boss or a group of enemies.

    I hate PvP so much.

Your argument is valid in Cyro but what abot the player that purchased Imperial city for the main story?

If you go into a PVP zone - and there are ONLY TWO in a game packed full of PVE zones, then you have to be prepared to get dead from time to time.

Personally I leave people alone unless they attack me first. But that’s my personal etiquette and I get sick to death of die-easy (lol) PVE-ers constantly crying about Imperial City or Cyrodiil not being PVE only.

If you want PVE only, they literally ANYWHERE ELSE in Tamriel.

If I see a player who is obviously just doing their quests and they've seen me and not started an attack, I'll usually leave them alone and be peaceful. Sometimes I've attacked players who made no attempt to fight back and I let them run off. Just as others have let me escape because I fought like a noob :D

I've only had one guy who I clearly left alone and he then chased and ganked me. I just laughed and remembered his name for that round of Mayhem heh. I don't whisper anyone who kills me and haven't had any hate whispers. But then I accept that anything goes in PvP areas, and I only get angry at myself making stupid mistakes.

How can you protect someone on the opposite side? I try and not kill questers and when I see one who starts to try and hide I wave then they stop sometimes and go on about their business. A few times while in the middle of that others from my faction start chasing them. Doesn't seem to be any way to stop them other than by yelling something which by that time they are already dead.

Go into pvp and absolutely murder questers because they didnt slot pvp gear.
    - They rage quit and try to get us banned

Go into pve and still solo pledges without slotting pve gear
    - They somehow still rage quit and try to get us banned

Thats one way to see it, or on the other hand someone is too close minded to work with something new.

Like maybe spend 5 mins and make impen crafted gear?

Or maybe don't freak out when I don't need your favorite youtuber's trials raid tank build on every toon to do FG1. Practically anyone can run it without gear now, hardly worth having a panic attack over.

Well when the one other cp3000 has a mental breakdown and leaves you with two pugs you may aswell be solo since you are taunting, healing yourself, and doing 90% of the dps.

I've been killed while questing, and I would never whisper anyone about it. While it's not classy to kill people you know are questing (using the general "you" here), it happens. I even accidentally killed a quester once while I was questing lol - I was fighting a big baddie for a quest and I didn't notice someone else was also fighting him and oops. My AoEs got him.

Just like there are unsportsmanlike PvP players (those who kill players who are obviously questing), there are bad apples among questers. You don't have anything to apologize for. Please continue to protect those of us who would appreciate you!

My favorite was some years ago, I went in on an khajiit nightblade to get some quests to hand in on days I would not PvP.
Got attacked, killed the attacker with an pve kind of stealth build and gained over 10k telvar.

Now in Cyrodil I say its bad form to kill questers of skyshard farmers.
IC has to short visibility to know some doing an quest is not part of an large group of PvP players, they does the IC quests to
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Haha, questers are not always carebears. Someone tried to gank me the other day while I was questing - it failed spectacularly and I would've killed them if I had my detect pots with me

So, in a game open to the general public, some people are toxic. And guess what - they can be found participating in all aspects of the game. I've encountered them in dungeons and trials, at spellscar, in a public dungeon, in pvp... I've even encountered toxic players in the housing community. It's really not mind blowing news. With a large enough sample size, one will encounter such people anywhere and everywhere.

Making it into this fake "us vs. them" thing based on the parts of the game we prefer, as some always do, is ridiculous... and imo little more than a way to absolve ourselves of examining our own behavior and that of the communities we're part of.

Or as I do have a laugh about it.

If you run with a pet it's going to attack so sometimes getting attacked by others is going to happen.

if you do run in Cyrodiil expect to be pvped. just live with it.

I've learned to put the pets away when I'm running in contested areas or places where I'm likely to run across players from the other alliances. It lowers the odds that I will be attacked due to my pets deciding they want to start a fight and to be honest they don't make a difference in being able to complete the PvE tasks. As to getting killed on occasion it goes with the territory.

I think once or twice a year, PVP areas should go PVE, just one campaign maybe for a week. And Mayhem should no longer have tickets, but have something new that would be very helpful for PVP and mosly useless for PVE.

Then maybe the only people who participate will be PVP and with fewer campaigns, the PVPers can have good fights without PVErs taking space in the campaign.

And I'm fine (assuming the PVP population is latge enough) having different parts of the PVE world turn PVP for the same period.
