My tavern in dead!

Hi Folks,

I've only ever dabbled with the in-house features before however I thought it was about time I gave it a real good try.

As my character emanates from the north, I was wanting to create a house that encompassed a tavern like setting, i.e. is rough and ready (similar to the taverns you find in most of the major cities in the north - think Viking like).

Looking through my available houses I felt the Antiquarian Alpine House would be the most suitable for this type of environment.

After a few days of tinkering, I feel like I have captured the setting quite well in terms of décor however it is seriously lacking atmosphere.

I have added a few companions and allies to the setting but that's it. Ive not even added much and its stating I cant add any more special furniture?

Anyway, I'm wanting to walk into my 'tavern' and feel the atmosphere .... e.g.
  • Aggressive Viking music playing overhead
  • Heartly laughs emanating from some of the tables at the back
  • Drunks walking and mumbling as they stumble across the floor
  • The tavern filled with patrons enjoying their evening drinks
  • A few ruffians up the back arguing and fighting
  • etc

You get the point.

Is this even possible?

As you have already reached your limit for house guests I would have to say the last four on your list are not possible. Even with very careful selection of your guests I suspect the atmosphere you wish would be very hard to achieve. 😕

As far as music is concerned there may be a music box that would provide a good viking-esque background, someone might be able to suggest one, my memory for those is not good.

It is an often mentioned concern that it is really not possible to make our creations feel alive or lived in. One of my pet peeves is we cannot even sit our guests down!
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

Unfortunately it doesn't show the animation but the waves move and the ship bobs up and down.

Houseguest slots are limited, so if you are looking for an 'active pub' feel, you have to kind of 'fake' it with other items like target dummies, soul shriven, and undaunted trophies.

As for overall ideas, you might want to check out existing builds via the in game 'Home Tours', or the addon EHT Housing Hub. Housing Hub actually lets you search on keywords like 'tavern' so it could be very useful in this case.

If you use discord, you can also check around for some of the Housing Related discord servers out there like Housefolio, and housing guild related servers. You'll be able to view tons of builds, and possibly have access to a lot more builders via the discords.

If you use twitch you can also try hopping into some of the housing related eso streamers to ask in chat. :)

    Ah, forgot.

Heartly laughs emanating from some of the tables at the back

Rigurt feels like the perfect houseguest for this build. He randomly lets out hearty laughs, and wanders around with a beer mug in his hand.

There is also a reachman houseguest that has a somewhat rowdy look.

You can also use pathing to make guest wander about. If you increase the path speed you can probably make it appear like the houseguests are running around each other, even if they aren't able to properly swing at each other.

At least there is a Nord barmaid and a number of guests that should suit the atmosphere! We could really use more “generic” houseguests that wouldn’t need to be interactable, but for which we could set appearance (or at least choose among presets) and emotes like sitting, dancing, drinking, etc.

Good luck with your tavern, @Weesacs ! :)

Yeah I can understand that. I would like to have some of my guests sit around the tables within my tavern. I would also like to have house guests outside in the lake area, swimming, splashing and sitting next to the water.

@whitecrow ty for the music video, the tune is nice. Ill try and acquire that music box.

@onyxorb ty. I actually havent used the house tours feature before; ill take a look.

YES! That is what Im on about. I would love to be able to add guests to my house that could blend into the surroundings of my house to make it feel more atmospheric.

Ty everyone for their feedback :)

Here's a picture of the recent 10 year anniversary painting that was rewarded in-game ... if only I could replicate this environment within my tavern :)
