Ossein Cage - Shapers of Flesh: fleshspawns issue

Not sure if this is a bug or not, if this is supposed to be this way, or if our group just sucks, but anyways:

In veteran Ossein Cage, with the first boss, the fleshspawns (or "blobs" as we like to call them) seem to have no rhyme or reason for their spawning. In some runs they will spawn once every 20 seconds or so, but in other runs they will spawn whenever they feel like it, despite our DPS, kill-priority and placements being consistent each time. Tonight we had SEVEN "blobs" spawning AT ONCE close to each other which obviously messed everything up. Honestly, the "blobs" spawning on top of each other every now and then is just insane, is that poor RNG or bad design?? Is there ANY logic to how these fleshspawns work? Clearing the boss seems to be very dependent on luck as much as skill, which is just frustrating. Surely there must be rules they abide to, not just randomly spawning whenever and wherever they please. Bad or bugged?

Thanks for the info here. We'll escalate to the team and see if this is a known issue or not.

They spawn after an abom is killed. If you get extra aboms, it does seem to increase the number.

I don't know the full details of the mechs, but I've been in quite a few voc groups and the more organized groups with solid dps never have problems and the more random groups often do, and it manifests in that way.

So maybe it's just my rng, but I tend to think if it was a widespread problem there would be more discussion about it.

It's a side effect of subclassing extreme powercreep, and players who jump straight to the meta build but don't know how to dial it back on the DPS and not try to facemelt everything that gets in front of them. Resulting in too many adds wreaking havoc on the party.

Are you sure? Because it's the groups with meh dps that seem to have problems in my experience. And really, vOC was made for u46. The groups that I'm in which cruise through it are all high dps. Like this boss is considered really easy.

I've played this with some really good raid leads and at no point were they saying "OK dial back the dps!!"

OP, is it possible you had just killed aboms when this happened? Because when an abom is killed, 2 fleshspawns will spawn from their corpse and need to be immobilized and burned asap. In hindsight, I think this is how things have gone wrong for the more random groups I've been in that have had challenges.

edit: somehow I missed sarahthes post before responding.

    edit 2:

I found this video which shows 3 aboms spawning at once. In the comments, someone writes, "Idk if it's a bug or intended but if there's a smol blob on top of the spawning scripted one they will spawn 3 aboms instead of one, it's pretty annoying."

And each of those 3 aboms will spawn 2 fleshspawns when they die.

I'm assuming it's an hm attempt in the video.

    So maybe it is buggy.

For me it always seemed that small blobs would be spawned based of HP % of the Shapers. So if you kill the shaper until you see the red blob spawn animation then focus down the blob that spawned before going back to the shaper it's a lot safer in Pug runs.

Runs generally failed whenever DPS only focused the shaper trying to burn it as fast as possible leading to multiple small blobs spawning.

There are however RNG issues with this because you can get 2 small blobs pick the same spawn point which causes essentially an almost instant abom spawn.

Did you watch the video I linked? It shows the blob flying through the air and *3* aboms instantly spawning when it lands. I didn't think there was a bug until I saw that and now I'm not sure.

Yes, I forgot about it but some HM teams did report that bug. On HM as well when you kill an abom I believe 3 blobs spawn. On HM what we do is focus the small blobs and just sort of incidentally kill everything else.
