Maintenance for the week of September 15:
• PC/Mac: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 15, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC)
• Xbox: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 16, 6:00AM EDT (10:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)
• PlayStation®: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 16, 6:00AM EDT (10:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)

There is too much downtime IMO

All I know is servers don't maintain themselves.

It is possible to perform server maintenance without disruption of service. ZOS has made a choice not to do this.

What I find irksome, is that they've known about these big maintenances far ahead of time, but none of the ZOS CMs have bothered to put the information in the News Section of the Launcher, so that the majority of players know about it ahead of time.

"Oh, but it's posted on the forums", you say.

    Yeaaaa.... about that...

So please, ZOS CMs, would you kindly take a few extra minutes, or 30, to toss us a notice on the Launcher for the majority of us who do not visit forums all that much? If ZOS wants to run a live service with daily tasks, especially during an Event Ticket event, then it would be swell to be able to plan ahead of time for if and when we need to adjust our play schedule, at least by a day or two.

    Thx.

Yeah this is inexcusable that they didn't update infrastructure and code behind the scenes for the past 11 years to make stuff more seamless.

Games like Diablo, Overwatch and many others launch huge seasons and updates with like 0 minutes of downtime.

Patch comes in and a notice 'We are currently conducting a live server maintenance, you might have to restart your client.'

I was recently playing another game when a new patch was being deployed and I got a timer so I could continue playing my current session. After that all game functions where disabled until I restarted my client. All was seamless.

With this game it seems every minor in game thing needs a full day of maintenance.

Guild Wars 2 does the same, which is an MMO like ESO and launched a few years before this game came out, so the technology was definitely available when this game was made.

I know a lot of the original team were veteran MMO developers who carried over some old-fashioned ideas from previous games they'd worked on and they've spent years slowly moving away from that, but you'd think the server engineers would at least be aware of current technology.

Why do both NA and EU at the same time? Khajiit would gladly log into EU and play his baby characters over there while NA was down, if he could.

Games like this need to have maintenance days, we understand that.

But when the customers who pay for this game and especially us who also pay for ESO+ time should be compensated for having to endure two long maintenance days in a row. It would be fair because we now lose a lot of time from that monthly period of which we pay.

And why they can't use nighttime for maintenance purposes. Have a different schedule for NA and EU megaservers.

It's been explained under the link in the big yellow banner on top of the forum page:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/679700

I'm pretty sure that they have to ensure that all characters in currently active Cyrodiil Campaigns (Ravenwatch, Grey Host, Blackreach & Icereach) get safely moved to a PvE zone to avoid any issues of characters getting locked out before shutting those Campaigns down. They will do another maintenance at the end of the Vengeance Campaign, repeating the same process all over again.

I usually whine on here when the game is down but agreed. There was maint that lasted almost a day then I decided to have another 24 hours break from the game shortly after too because I realised during maint that I'd got too addicted again. Then started playing in bits here and there for a bit but maint is back again already.

After checking the announcement thread and it's good that they at least explain that it's to add vengeance pvp back in, not sure why the game needs to be down for so many hours for that though.

I believe that was when each regional server had a separate game installation, we certainly don't want to go back to that!

I’m just gonna say, I’d rather have a game like ESO have a lot of maintenances in order to keep the game running in the long term than little-to-no maintenances where the game suffers a lot. Sure, a small recompense would be fine though. I’m thinking like a daily endeavor being tripled its normal worth.

The main issue I have is that, if I remember correctly, there has been maintenance once a week for the last three weeks. One of those was an 18 hour one. All of the maintenance always happen during Asia/Pacific prime time so players in that part of the world have been missing out on a lot of game time. It would be nice if ZOS acknowledged that there has been a lot of downtime scheduled closely together recently and sent out some sort of compensation.

I don’t expect them to… but it would be nice.

the biggest problem I have with these maintenances, apart from being 2 times in a week, is the bad timing for european players. for us its during daytime, I mainly play during daytime and to make things worse, I live in the netherlands, we are on utc+2, so maintenance is basicly no playing that day for me.

So why not plan this earlier in the day for the eu so more is during nightime, the time most people do sleep anyway.

And really, couldn't this been done the last time and turn the changes on later or something, 2 times in 5 days is too much.

all MMOs need maintenance, even if it's annoying.

    other MMOs:
    • black desert online : between 4 and 5 hours, time: 8am-1pm ETC
    • new world: no server downtime during maintenance or exceptional events (large content)
    • wow: between 1 hour and 4 hours of downtime
    • final fantasy XIV: most often in the evening between 10 p.m. and 12 p.m. (the next day), every week.
    • GW2: Rare downtime as each server is independent and when players connect to one server another is down for maintenance so it feels like there is no game downtime
    etc

All I know is servers don't maintain themselves.

All I know is, their maintenances don't maintain the servers either. Judging by all the lag and whatnot. Either way. Somehow every other MMO on the market manages to avoid the need to shut down their servers for anywhere from 8 to 18 hours ever single week. Somehow the other MMOs either manage significantly shorter downtimes (hour or 2 at most), or manage to do them during offtimes for the specific region, or manage to do them a lot more rarely (for example only for numbered patch drops), etc. Or do literally all of that at once. Or just never go down like GW2 (yes, I'm aware ESO cannot do that).

But clearly the argument of "servers don't maintain themselves" isn't a good one. All those other MMOs maintain them too and do so without making their players miss out on entire days of login rewards, subscriptions, dailies, event rewards and whatnot. The fact that it's so normal in ESO, that there is never any sort of compensation for this kind of thing, no extension of events or daily login reward pages, etc... speaks for itself. This would be absolutely unheard of in the communities of the other top MMOs on the market.

Not playing devil's advocate by any means, the abundance of maintenance is killing me (almost two days of trading lost between trader flips) but I don't think they could have delayed it by much.
