The game has struggled in the past rendering things like the blue flame in wayshrines, the Daedric portal to Volundrung in Cyrodiil, and lighting in housing. Now the glow of harvesting runes and Thieves Troves are fading.

This eleven year old game just cannot handle this much glowing stuff. Let us turn off the obnoxiously glowing and exploding mounts so we can see the stuff in game that is really important. Stop catering to narcissists.

Those 'narcissists' on their glowy mounts are probably the whales who are paying for this game! :D
I don't ever see ZOS giving us the option to turn this down since showing off to others is a key motivator behind the purchase.

I swear, I'd probably be willing to pay to DISABLE this stuff instead. I'm not judging the people who use those mounts, skins, whatever else. It's their right and their taste. The game sells this stuff, they pay for this stuff, they get to use it. Anything else would make no sense. But hey, I paid for the game too. And seeing those ultra flashy, vibrant effects zooming around, is not enjoyable for me. I want some of that Elder Scrolls immersion back from time to time. It's an MMO, but occasionally I quest ya know.

Give us toggles, or sliders, or freaking put that stuff in the crown store too. If this is all about profits, seriously, put it in the crown store. I'll buy it. It will suck, but I will buy it. And bonus points, I'm sure the game would run better with all those effects off. Locally anyways.

I don't like the glowy stuff, but I can live it it.

However, the audio on the new mounts is obtusely intrusive.

I agree. These explosion effects and loud sounds are super annoying. It is probably supposed to be their selling point, but I personally have no interest in getting these mounts due to how obnoxious they are.

I’m more in favor of toning down the crown crates in general. Bring back personalities and more in game earnable mounts. I miss the days when we’d go for the challenger achievement in dungeons to get a personality. Now we get a title… woo hoo

I would absolutely love the option to just turn off everything Apex and above. Replace all their mounts with a Horse.

Or at least just turn their vfx off.

This may be a High Fantasy world, but it's foundations are real world Medieval. Do you see color explosions every time Gandalf got on his Horse in LotR?

Yes, the mounts are loud, but have you equipped the new glowy lightsaber swords? They actually make an explosion every time you bar swap to them or unsheathe them and enter combat. Now that is annoying because I weapon swap a lot more than I use a mount.

Everyone can make hyperbole. Wanting good quality cosmetics that fits the setting and a several decades old franchise does not equal bland and soulless. In fact, this random flashy stuff feels a lot more soulless.

    "Good quality cosmetic"

Purely a subjective matter here. Remember, your experience is not the standard.

I get the feeling that 90% of the people complaining about flashy mounts are only doing so because they don’t own one. Maybe just don’t be so jelly and let the people who do have them enjoy them.

Even my trifecta horse from vLC annoys me lol, and it's not nearly as flashy as some crate mounts. I do have some apex mounts, but I only use more subtle ones (like the ice wolf).

I hate the explosions. I will specifically NOT buy ( or use one I happen to get randomly ) any mount that has an explosive entrance.

Yeah I totally understand some people being bothered by things that are bright and loud. I keep the music in the game turned all the way down because it annoys me. It just really seems like some posts here are coming from a different place though.

I don't have a neon-exploding rainbow-vomiting mount because I don't WANT one. It's way more than enough for my eyes in their bright and blinking nature when I'm at a wayshrine and someone else mounts up, I probably wouldn't stand more than a day with one of my own 🤮

That’s a pretty cool trick. You’re gonna have to let the rest of us know how you intentionally exclude specific items from the rewards pool when you open a crate.

One thing you can do if they sound effect noise drives you bonkers is lower the noise on the slider. I have it set much lower than all of the other sounds, and it seems to be better.

It's called not equipping the cosmetics you don't want. There are mounts and pets I would love to be able to sell for gems, because as they are they are simply garbage cluttering up my collections.
Or, not participating in the gambling crates in the first place because the "rewards" are ugly and not worth investment.

True, but he said he does not have one because he does not want one. If he owned one and chose not to use it I’m pretty sure he would’ve stated so. Also, you can get radiant Apex mounts even from the free crates in the game that drop from time to time as login rewards. That’s where one of mine came from.

Truly, it seems even our mounts now aspire to rival the divine. Once, a simple guar or senche was enough to cross Tamriel in peace. Now they blaze with the fury of Akatosh himself. I fear we have strayed too far from the humble path of the stablemaster.

Not every steed needs to trail the flames of Aetherius or roar like Alduin reborn. A mount should serve the rider, not blind them. Perhaps the Mages Guild could devise a glamour to dampen these arcane flares for the sake of both immersion and our scorched retinas.

Let us ride with dignity, not dazzle.

Well, that would be why I didn’t say 100% of the people complaining are doing it because they are upset about not having one. As I stated earlier, I am completely aware that some people are super sensitive to bright and loud things.

yea i know you didn't say 100% and i doubt your "jealous" 90% is even more than 1% of people who complain about mount effects.

    edited to add:
being able to hide the effects would not take mounts away from their owners.

and while i don't think it's impossible there's some group of jealous people, i personally have only seen:
    - people who care about accessibility
    - people who dislike the mount effects, usually because it disrupts their immersion

This is *exactly* what people who buy these mounts want to think. "everyone is jelly of me!!" That's what ZOS is actually selling in many cases.

But in fact, many are judging them negatively. Believe it or not, the income bar to afford such things is very low. No one is actually impressed except the people who have them.

I've got like 60k seals of endeavor and most of my characters ride this.

Yeah, it literally costs next to nothing. One of mine came from a free crate, the rest have come from endeavor points or free crowns from ESO+. Trust me, nobody is trying to impress you with a mount. It’s hilarious you think you’re that special though.😂
