Horses and Inventory Management

I noticed that horses' main attributes are speed, stamina and carrying capacity.

Given that ESO maps seems to be packed with stuff to do (too packed imo), I don't see any point in having a horse for travel speed. So I'm curious about how carrying capacity works.

Does it just add more slots to your backpack? If not, how is it different? How many slots do you get with a standard horse, and how many can you get if you kept feeding it to specialise in carrying capacity?

The beginner horse comes with 0 carrying capacity, but once a day, you can choose to feed it oats. Every meal of oats will boost it by 1, up to a maximum of 50. The slots are added directly to the same backpack you always have access to.

You can get a draft horse for more money which comes with 10 slots, able to be fed to a total maximum of 60.

I just bought a Cap upgrade... $400 for a single +1 capacity... for 400 you'd think your oats are top of the line, maybe giving +10 cap... nope... for 400 I can carry one more piece... of something...
Don't waste the money... buy bank and personal cap upgrades...

It will be wise to have different horses for different things. A speed/stamina horse for PvP, and a capacity horse for regular use. Due to the cost/benefit of capacity on horses, this should be used once you've already upgraded your bags and banks to the point that they are prohibitively expensive - unless you have zero interest in a speed horse whatsoever.

The Great thing is you can have more then 1 Horse.

I personally plan to use my Imperial Horse as a Pack Mule in PvE while switching over to one of the more expensive horses during PvP.

You'll be able to upgrade the speed on your Imperial horse past the other horses way before being able to afford the more expensive horses. Especially since it is more cost effective to upgrade personal capacity and bank slots before capacity on a horse, it makes more sense to go speed first.

Unless you don't want to ride into PvP on a white horse, which I totally understand. =P

I just want the black horse. Alas, it will be a long way away (months RL) for any of my characters to get that much money.

Just BEWARE!! If you do go for a horse with more bag space. When you decide to get another horse for lets say speed, when you switch to that spoed horse it wont let you until you empty those extra bag spots you have from your extra bag horse.

Example: you have two horse. One leveled at max speed and one with 50 bag slots. Currently you are using the bag horse. You decide you want the speed horse for pvp. You go to the stable and try to switch you bag horse for speed, your inventory is full. It will not let you until you empty out those extra slots.

Good to know. Also, that seems silly. Let the stuff sit on the horse.

This is the reason why I see no point to put stats into anything other than speed.

your backpack upgrades are limited, i think to 110 places, and the last upgrade costs 20 000 gold ... ah and bank spaces cost a lot too, im saving for the the 40 000 gold upgrade,

buy oats and feed the horse every day its really usefull

    +1

I also hoped in the long run I would be able to use my horses for different tasks each keeping their extra inventory separate.

Bascially I would have wanted to fill the packs of one horse with all Alchemy materials I pick up. Then I would use another horse for all the Cooking Materials. etc.

    - - -

It seems odd that we are able to buy that many more horse stable spaces when there is no real incentive to have more than one horse for speed or more than one horse for carrying.

    Idea - Horse Breeding:
Unless of course they introduce horse breeding into the game at a later time.
Maybe once a month we can breed a new horse that combines the stats of its parents.

    Example:
    Horse A: Speed 47%
    Horse B: Carrying 30

If you breed those two you get a new mount that has:
    Horse C: Speed 47% and Carrying 30.

Maybe then we would also see horses in the guild stores?

I put points in my horse to fit my needs at the time. In the beginning I put entirely in storage as bag or bank space was way beyond my budget. Once I got a bit wealthier, I put points in stamina as I can use it for burst speed and prevent me from getting knocked off horse, which I absolutely hate in pve or pvp. Now that I have enough storage and I'm not getting knocked off I'm putting some points in speed. So I don't agree to put all points in speed upfront. I also doubt I'll buy another horse and double my feeding expenses, not to mention huge cost of buying a specialized horse. I think this one horse will be good enough for all my needs.

This would be so awesome and fun. There would be Breeder guilds for sure, and I would imagine this would be a booming market in the game economy. Very nice idea!

I would argue the exact opposite of want some are telling you.

I was having huge inventory issues, wasting tons of time moving things to alts. Then I noticed that at 250 gold per inventory slot, the oat fed horse quickly becomes a bargain because the bank and personal inventory upgrades rapidly become crazy expensive.

Now one of my horses is maxed for carrying capacity and it totally rocks! Made the game playable for me and I would never go back it's that good!

This won't happen like that, because you'll end up with a horse with all three stats maxed out.

They might allow you a system where you can add a fraction of the improvements to the base stats, ie if you breed a horse that's had 50 improvements to it's carrying with a hore that has 50 improvements to it's stamina, then you get a horse with +5 Carrying & +5 Stamina.

    But that's just a maybe.
