Question about the new Stackable Master Writs.

I'm on PSNA so it'll be a couple weeks before I get to experience it for myself, but while reviewing the information I've seen describing how they work I have a question abut a possible dilemma.

At the outset, players will rejoice at the newly freed bank/inventoryy slots. However as is usually the case, those unused slots will invariably fill up. So what happens when a player opens a string of master writs that they cannot yet complete, but now doesn't have room to save them for later so will have to sell or get rid of them? Because once opened and you see what's inside, there's no sealing it back up so it can continue to stack.

Or have I missed something obvious? Is there a counter to what I foresee to be an impending dilemma resulting in even more micro-management?

That’s what it looks like to me too. The unopened writs stack but you don’t know what’s in them. Open them and they don’t stack. Hope I too am missing someway to see what they contain. Otherwise not much use.

Their is no peeking. As soon as you click it to open, it's consumed and you have a new writ in your inventory. It does mention the type of writ. I don't know if there is a different stackable for gold writs though, as I've only gotten purples so far.

So there is no way to just pull one out once you look inside? It extracts the whole contents?

Seems like a bad decision. I keep some in my bank for days when I don’t get them so I can still get some xp and vouchers.

    EDIT: typo

Think about it, if you had a stack of 25 master blacksmithing writ envelopes and you were able to look inside one of them to find that it was for a gold Abah's Watch style Torug's Pact dagger but not remove it, how would that envelope stack with the 24 others? How would you be able to look through the envelopes in the stack to find the 1 envelope out of the 25 in the stack that had the writ for a gold Abah's Watch style Torug's Pact dagger again?

I'm guessing then that the contents of the writ aren't generated until the container envelope is opened. So it may be in the player's best interest to open the envelopes with the character that has the best RNG seed for the day hoping for a gold master writ. And not necessarily the crafting toon that will be completing it.

This one disagrees.Khajiit currently has 871 master writs in various locations and banks, and while this change will not effect them, it will certainly improve future storage efforts.

    Correct.

I'm unsure if this makes any difference, but it's probably worth trying!

STRONG disagree. I pretty much always have 500+ master writs clogging up my inventory except when I've just recently gone on a big writ crafting spree to earn tons of XP (I generally only do this during double XP events) or to get vouchers. This change is a MASSIVE help for people like me who do lots of writs.

    Agreed!

The only thing I would change is to add golden envelopes as well. So we can see which rarity we have gotten, and can actually targetfarm writ vouchers again.

It will automatically stack those of the same type.

However, all you need to do is 'use' the envelope to convert it into an unstackable writ that functions exactly as they always have.

Just open the stackable master writ containers. You will receive master writs that will show what to craft and don‘t stack like before.

As long as the writs are still sealed that would work I guess. Assuming that I don’t forget about them and fill up the available inventory space…

The point of it is that some people save sealed writs until conditions are best to do them, such as 2x exp events. They can end up taking up a great deal of inventory, and this change obviates that.

Khajiit is a huge fan of this unexpected addition. They are already saving this one inventory space - 20 writs have been acquired since yesterday and they only take up 7 bank spots. Bravo!

But you can't stack opened ones. So if you have, say 500 opened ones stored someplace, well you will still have 500 opened ones at the end of the day. If you keep your stacked ones (if they keep stacking?) to use later, you have to unleash all of them to get at the ones you want. If you use all of your, say, 20 fully levelled crafters all doing crafting dailies, yes there is some point. For someone like me who stacks them and only doing them when they want then, the problem is you can't pick and choose the ones you want to do and keep the stack. It's either all or nothing. I suspect I am not the only one who does this. In which case I can't see any real advantage at the end of the day for us.

    And why to open them?
If you do from time to time - stackable are great.
Let's say there is 50 writs.
In old way it takes 50 slots between crafting times.
Unopened takes 7 slots. When you decide to craft something, you open them. All 50 or until first writ you like. You don't like some? It still takes equally or less slots. Just don't open when you don't plan to do something with writs immediately.
So that doesn't do anything worse - but can save A LOT of inventory space between crafting times. Especially important if no ESO+ and inventory management is already a hard thing. I often have to do master writs no matter if it is good time fot it just because they took too much space and inventory is full.

Only situation when stackable are useless - if you do master writs as soon as you receive it.

That's not true. They can be banked and they can go in guild banks.
If you keep your stacked ones (if they keep stacking?) to use later, you have to unleash all of them to get at the ones you want.
What do you mean "to get at the ones you want"? The writs inside them aren't generated until you open an envelope, which removes the writ. There's no such thing as "getting at the ones you want" because when you open one you get a randomly generated writ, just as if you had just turned in a daily writ under the old system and received a master writ as a reward. All the stackable envelopes are doing is letting you save up your writ drops until you want to deal with them.

That doesn't happen. When you've got a stack of the envelopes and you go to open them you only open one at a time, it doesn't open the whole stack at once.

There is literally no down side to this new system compared to the old one other than a single extra click if you still want to do things the old way. I swear people will complain about anything.

The issue I wanted addressed this.. eventually all those freed up bank slots will fill up with other items. When that happens, when a player starts opening writ envelopes they may open a bunch of writs they can't complete yet. But now they're stuck with no place to put them for later, so are now forced to either sell or get rid of them whether they want to or not.

At least before this change, the player at least had the advantage of pre-planning along the way because they were able to know in advance what choices to make.

So the issue you want addressed is that people have no self control and can't think things through to realize they need to make sure they have inventory/bank space if they want to put a bunch more things in their inventory/bank. OK.
