With Class Identity Gone, How Long Will You Stick Around?

Since class identity is gone and everyone's starting to feel the same... let me ask the real question:
How long are you planning to stay in the game?

Class identity has nothing to do for me honestly. I have access to brand new things to experiment with my main character now.
I also love this because now i can use two characters, Nightblade and Arcanist, instead of seven characters for content.

Personally, I am excited for the change. I love my Nightblade but with how strong Arcanist beam was I couldn't really /use/ it the way I wanted to.

I like the new direction. I don't like playing alts, so now I can try everything on my main character.

There wasn't much class identity to begin with. Every class had 3 unique skills lines to that class out of nearly 50 skill lines.

I will see how bad it is then decide. I did not purchase the new content and have very little desire to.

This change does not bother me and alights with a direction I advocated many years ago.

Any criticism that I am going to have about this system will be with implementation details and balance, not the basic concept.

That part doesn't bother me, I can still build a bunch of different things that fit a theme I am interested in. Main thing I will be watching out for is just balancing passes that inevitably spin off from this and the unintended impacts those could have.

I am more concerned about meta and balancing and stuff; moving more towards a true elder scrolls game without classes is a plus for me and should have been the direction from the start with only skill lines...

And as in a elder scrolls single player game, the identity you create yourself and you can continue to do that...

If you want to play a certain theme - just build around it with skill lines, outfits etc etc... thats what I do for all my characters and ESO allows for that more than probably 99% of other mmos...

I do think they can make the skill lines with future updates again more distinct from one another since they dont need to be aligned all anymore...

oh and they still should revert the jabs animation...

the concept itself is fine. but Zos has never known how to balance anything. they have before and will continue to make sweeping global balance changes because of the top 0.02% of minmaxers

Although the era of class identity being meaningful is sadly coming to an end, I'm not opposed to subclassing and I'm cautiously optimistic about it. There will undoubtedly be problems with balancing and it will take a long time to adress, but this is not new, and at this point I'm wondering if imbalance is just a way for the devs to show as having things being actively worked on between patches. Nevertheless, it's a new system and regardless of balance issues and teething problems, new systems always bring a breath of fresh air in the game. The good news is that unless a player is a PvPer or wants to compete at a very high PVE level, they will still be able to do everything else the same way as before. In a way it's another case of meta being optimal versus non-meta. It's just too bad that this meta means changing the entire identity of our characters, and given how this is 10 years into the game, it does indeed feel like an ending. I'm hoping though the flip-side which is a new beginning will be good for the health of the game in the long run.

What I'm really disappointed in is ZOS new monetization system; the pass is more expensive, it does include dungeons and Q4, but we got those with ESO+ (not to mention, sometimes the Q4 DLC was released for free), so it overlaps with plus. They added the vault with the sub, but I don't think it's enough. Essentially the only ways that this is better than before comparatively to how chapters/ESO+ was, is for people either getting the pass but not being subbe'd, or not getting the pass and being subbed, these are the only ways you are benefiting from the new things compared to the previous system. However, for people who are getting both, they are essentially paying more than the previous years for the same content structure essentially, and also paying twice for some of the same things, ie., ZOS is double dipping to their wallets. And given how people who are subbed are active players, they are more likely to buy the pass. It's clever marketing but combined with how the store works (things being hidden behind layers of currency that obscures how more expensive items have become--more specifically items in crates--), I found myself less willing to get the new pass and I dropped my sub as well. I'll still continue to play as usual, and I love the game and the team, but the monetization has gotten a bit too unsavoury, imo.

Except the addiction is hard to beat so I still log in for a bit, and, and - maybe a miracle will happen and they'll fix all the long-time bugs and pain-points so it'll be better - please.

As long as the game exists. Can't say I like the new direction, but I will stay in ESO till the end of days, it's Elder Scrolls world, I live here.

I’m dialing back my play time but it has nothing to do with class identity, I’ve just been feeling like all I have to do in ESO is chores and the new content is both lacking and more expensive.

Until I stop enjoying the game or something competes for my attention. I'm not sure that I even care THAT much about class identity, but I do have dozens of alts of every class already.
