So I just finished the mains tory again for first time since launch on my new char, but now it asks if we want to start again and be forgotton etc etc and explore other lands, but can;t we already do that since one tamriel, and ive not completed all the zones on daggerfall? where even is the non main story faction main story? all i see is the typical zone quests, nothing like a sub main story, and if i did go ahead with cadwell what happens to the daggerfall cov story ive yet to do?

None of the stories are really connected, you can complete each zone in whatever order you want and it has no real impact on any of the stories

The point of doing anything is just for the achievement really

The regular Npcs in the town will remember the things you do and refer to you differently based on what quests you’ve completed

If what your after is character growth and individual impact or cosmetics/ horizontal progression than eso really isn’t that kind of game

Since One Tamriel you can do each alliance's storyline without needing Cadwell to send you there, but Silver and Gold provide a framework for completing those alliance questlines (with some cosmetic rewards for doing so).

The main point of doing those storylines is to experience those stories without having to use a different character. In the olden days that was the only way to even get into the other alliance zones, but now it's mostly just a relic from the before times that serves as a framework to point you to the next available storyline.

The thing about NPCs forgetting you isn't meant to wipe away any experiences your character has already had. It mostly means that when you're sent to start the next alliance's story, you'll be seen as a newbie rather than as the person who has already saved Nirn from the Planemeld. Whether you want to consider it a dream, or an alternate timeline, or some kind of Meridia illusion magic hiding who you really are, the people you meet will consider you a member of that alliance and won't acknowledge the things you've done in your "real" adventuring history.

If the Covenant is your home alliance, and you haven't done all of the available quests there, then you can still finish that off any time. Accepting the quest for Silver mostly just puts an extra objective in your quest journal, and once you finish the next alliance zone story you can go back to Cadwell and get your bonus reward. And then go on to Gold and do the same thing with the third alliance. And if you don't feel like doing those storylines because you'd rather jump to a DLC or something, you can absolutely do that. Accepting Cadwell's Almanac doesn't take anything away from you or prevent you from going anywhere you want to go.

If you don't want to do Cadwell's silver/gold (which is basically completing the faction zone stories for the other two factions) you can continue onto Craglorn, Imperial City, and Orsinium as the next part in the story. The point of Cadwell was to help you travel to the zones, but that's no longer an issue since One Tamriel. I still think it's best to do stories in chronological order since that makes the most sense, but it's definitely not a requirement, and you can immediately jump to another zone story.

It doesn't actually change how the NPCs react to you. The quests are all the same whether you do them through Cadwell's Almnac or just by going to the zones and starting them normally.

The line about everyone forgetting who you are was put in as lore justification for not having seperate Cadwells/veteran zone versions of the quests, so NPCs from other alliances who appear at the end of the Main Story or otherwise should know who you are will treat you like a random stranger when you're in their alliance, because you're doing the same version of the quests as people who start in that Alliance. But that's the way it's always been, One Tamriel didn't change it, moving the starting point to the latest chapter didn't change it (and that's now been reverted) and starting Cadwell's Almnac won't change it.

It also doesn't affect how NPCs in your alliance zones (and in DLC and chapter zones) refer to you.
