How big is the Furnishing Vault?

How big is the furnishing vault? Does anyone have any screenshots of it in a house?

I'm looking forward to getting it so I can move all my furnishings out of my bank, but I'm afraid it won't fit into the decor in most of my houses.

It’s like an ornate floor safe as tall as your character, similar in size to a phone booth but shorter.

From my read of the PTS patch notes, it sounds like it doesn't have to be placed at all to be used.

'Furnishings stored within the vault are accessible from all owned homes throughout Tamriel. Whether placed in a home or accessed directly via the Housing Editor, the Furnishing Vault makes it easy to manage your furnishing collection and decorate across multiple homes.

Once unlocked from the ESO Plus tab in the Crown Store, the vault becomes available as both a placeable collectible furnishing in-home and an integrated option within the Housing Editor. No matter which of your homes you're decorating, you'll have quick and convenient access to stored items.

I didn’t spend enough time with it to figure out how to access it directly, just as a furnishing, but I did seem to remember being able to access it directly from what you posted above, I just must not have looked in the right place.

I wonder if when used as a furnishing, it takes up a furnishing slot? I forgot to check earlier.

I was thinking that I would have to physically have to place furnishings into it, but maybe not? Do furnishings automatically go into it the way resources do with the crafting bag?

For me they didn’t. In my initial testing I picked up furnishings in my house, pressed E when standing in front of the vault, and got a deposit/withdraw menu that listed the furnishings. It may be different when you access it directly from the housing editor, but I didn’t try that yet.

So I probably do have to have one placed somewhere to put furnishings into it, but can use the housing tab to place furnishings like I do now. That's good to know.

I could probably get by with just putting it in one house and not have to have it in all of them.

    Thanks for the information everyone!

There's a new setting where you can set where your furnishings go when you retrieve them, so yeah, you can passively use the vault without any manual management.

I'm not sure if you need to have it placed for this to work, got to test to confirm.

And I figured out if you place it in your house, it count as one collectible furnishing, the group we have 110 slots for in the largest size houses.

    That's big!

I've been wondering, though, if furnishings go wherever we choose when we retrieve them, is there an option for them to go to our bag so we can list items we want to sell on a trader? Or can we list them directly from the vault?

You could always place it in a house, deposit furnishings into it, and then remove it from the house if you don't want it to be a permanent fixture in that house. I used to do that with the storage containers, especially in houses whose furnishing limits are too small to let me place all eight storage containers.

If we were to use the eight storage containers as smaller furnishing vaults, we would have a total of 500+4*60+4*30=860 slots for storing our furnishings. I'm not sure how big each stack can be inside a storage container, but I assume that's determined by the item, not the storage container-- i.e., some items are limited to 20 per stack (like siege equipment), I think others are limited to 100 per stack, and then there are all the items that can stack to 200, and items that can stack to 1000. I'm guessing that furnishings will still stack to 1000 whether they're stored in the furnishing vault or the storage containers.

I hadn’t heard that furnishings were going to start stacking in storage containers as well as the new vault.

Don't they already stack inside the storage containers, the same way they stack inside your inventory and your bank account? I just pulled out a bunch of master writs from some of my storage containers, and replaced them with stacks of furnishings, as part of my effort to get a better handle on my inventory management. Furnishings seem like good things to put in the storage containers, since they can be placed in a house directly from storage without having to retrieve them manually first.

That would interest me as well. I'd like to put it into a wall so it looks like a door to a storage room (sinking it into the floor as a trap door would also work, of course).

I haven't been on the PTS yet, but maybe you try it on Live with a storage chest to see what happens? My experience has been that items such as crafting stations cannot be interacted with if they're partially clipping into something else, so I'm guessing the same will be true for storage containers and the furnishings vault-- except, you should still be able to place furnishings out of them even if they're clipping other objects, you probably just wouldn't be able to interact with it to put more furnishings in.

The other housing coffers can be pulled from even if they are sunk into things or inaccessible. However putting stuff back into them does require you to be able to interact with it.

You can retrieve it and place it in front of you, interact, and then undo the move with the housing tools. A bit annoying, but there are worse things.
