Why doesn't the Premium Content Pass discount based on what you already own?

For example; I already own Greymoor, Arcanist Class etc - I was looking at it again thinking "why doesn't the premium pass give you some kind of discount for the chapters you already own?"

And it makes sense right? Why isn't there some kind of discount? It's essentially buying it twice which makes absolutely zero sense imo.

Just curious what other people think about this?

this is a cognitive distortion. You can't ask for a discount in a store on Friday based on a purchase on Thursday.

In a lot of cases you actually can. If a sale started on Friday, then it might be possible to get the Friday discount after all. It all depends on the country and what it is you bought and the return policy of the store etc. But it's not unheard of.

That's not exactly what WhiteScythe is asking. If you use Steam, what WhiteScythe means is called "complete collection" on Steam.

As in, when you view CoolGame 1 for €10, it also recommends you a bundle below. And it contains, say:

CoolGame 1, CoolGame 2, CoolGame 3, AwesomeGame 1 and PrettyNiceGame for €25 with 50% discount.

But you already own AwesomeGame and PrettyNiceGame. You can still get the bundle and it charges you €15. It does not double charge you for AwesomeGame and PrettyNiceGame.

That is what WhiteScythe is asking. If you now buy the battle pass premium, they will be paying for Greymoor and the Arcanist Class, although they already own them. It's not discount on already bought items. It is asking not to pay double.

zos haS NEVER SOLD ITEMS LIKE THEY ARE ASKING. the choice has always been the deluxe purchase with every chapter including the new one or an upgrade only that includes only the most recent chapter. those have always been the two options they have ever made available. whats different now is that they are also giving you the two dungeons included in either bundle and you need not purchase them seperately. I hate that. i'd rather the dungeons were not included with either bundle as that has always been the way they did it previously. i want an option without the dungeons please and thank you.

FO76 has done this for years with atom shop bundles and BGS is owned by ZoS so it is an apples to apples comparison.

I buy game/dlc bundles on Steam that do this all the time. Steam shows a discounted bundle price, and you get a further discount if you already own items included in the bundle.

I guess the key idea here is ownership. You do not own the dungeons when playing them through ESO+ . If you stop playing into Plus you lose access to them. With the bundle you are buying them permanently.

It's a distinction Zos have made before, offering previous dungeons as rewards, for example, even when ESO+ players could already access them.

The chapters, though, it's hard to disagree

EXACTLY! Which is why I'm confused by the so called "new model going forward"

We should 100% have bundles that include discounts for content you already own. Sorry if that's unpopular opinion.

I don't think the opinion itself is unpopular -- as consumers I assume most of us would approve paying less for something. Rather, there is confusion about why you expect ESO to provide this discount as if it were natural, just because Steam happens to do it that way. Steam is the exception here, not ESO. Most things in life don't give you a further discount on a bundled offering just because you happen to own some of the components already, including most software licenses. Even Steam doesn't offer this for all types of bundled offerings on the platform.

In other words, I hope you can convince ZOS to implement this mechanism, but you'll need to find a more meaningful argument than "because that's what some random other company does".

we are talking about a bundle as a special way of distributing products in steam.

      a) this is not a bundle
      b) you're confusing ZOS and Zenimax Media

It is not, however, a Steam bundle.

A bundle on Steam is a collection of separate Steam purchases, ESO's upgrades and collections are a single steam purchase. If you bought, eg. Gold Road Collection you don't get separate owned items on your Steam account for all the previous chapter upgrades, so Steam doesn't actually know you own them.

The only place this sort of discount would be possible is the crown store, because your ESO account is the only place that knows all the content you own.

You're not addressing my point. Of course you don't want to pay twice for the same content. I don't either. But what reason does ZOS have to give you a discount, when most purchases in similar situations don't give you a discount for stuff you already own? Steam is just one other company, and their approach with bundles is not that common in the market, unfortunately.

Again, I support your intent, but you provide no meaningful supporting argument that actually makes sense from ZOS's perspective.

It's not quite an equivalent situation, but it's the first example that comes to mind: If I wanted to upgrade my World of Warcraft account to the current expansion The War Within, that would cost me €49.99, irrespective of whether I had paid for every expansion up to the previous Dragonflight, or whether I had stopped playing after Cataclysm or Pandaria or whenever it was. There is no differential discount based on which level I already own. And if WoW doesn't do so, why should ESO, from their perspective?

If I understood right, that would be great for those like me living on countries with high currency exchange ratios. A simple Chapter that goes by 50 dollars becomes 300+ moneys here.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but isn't what your looking for is just the content pass in the store, not the premium package? I.e. the content pass is similar to the upgrade from the chapters in the past, for those who already had everything else.
