Monk Class

Would you be interested in a monk class and/or pugilist weapon line? There are numerous NPCs in the game literally called "monks" and several NPCs have move sets for monk playstyles. I'd love to see it personally!

i would be interested in an Unarmed skill line in the Weapon category.

all classes are magic based so i don't believe any future class would be martial instead

I’d definitely be interested in more skill lines. With subclassing on the horizon—and possibly a full classless system down the line—I think it makes more sense to invest in new individual skill lines rather than whole new classes. It gives players more flexibility and playstyle options. A monk or pugilist line could slot right into that system and still feel fresh and thematic.

If you note the final boss of BDV for instance, he is very clearly a monk-type NPC and shoots flames out of his hands. I'm sure if ESO introduced a monk-based class it would be heavily martial w/ a fair bit of magic in it for an elder scrolls spin.

What would the rest of its magic abilities be like?
because if a Monk class has flame magic that'd be pretty similar to Dragonknight

Dunno! That's up to ZOS! I just simply mean that if implemented as a class, probably similar to a WoW monk, it'd surely have plenty of magic involved and retain it's martial feel! :)

Never like that sort of thing.... Then again, I doubt it will make any difference to me from now on. Though.... I also think with this subclass thing they're out of the "new class" business.

No, there needs to be another ranged weaopon added before another class or skill line.

Being stuck with a staff since 2014 is getting old for ranged players.

Agreed. I don't think we are going to see much more custom stuff being made as far as classes. Its gonna be shuffling and cosmetics. Artists are cheap these days and plentiful. Not hard to contract or have interns make flashy stuff. The game is not in maintenance mode, but its on that path.

    Unarmed skilline yes.

    Monk class no.

Unarmed combat has been a thing and skill in Elder Scrolls for quite some time, so would be nice have the option to make a character fight that way. Can use it to make khajiit claw-dance using character or a less fancy imperial monk. Class is a no, because it will likely be some unimmersive, exaggerated and/or niche thing that doesn't really match up to Elder Scrolls well. Like how they made necromancers look.

I’d love a martial arts skill line and a fighting staff skill line. I could finally bring a character that’s been living in the back of my head since beta to life!

    What you're describing isn't a Class. It's a weapon line.

This is one of the things I see people get wrong the most when they want their D&D Class (Monk or Bard) in ESO. The definition of a Class in ESO is three skill lines and skills that can allow someone to adequately perform all three holy trinity roles. The class lines should not restrict them into a specific role or weapon.

That means when most people say "I want ESO to have monks!" they're really meaning "I want to play any existing Class but with an Unarmed weapon line!" What they don't mean is "I want to play my religious-themed Class tank who wields a greatsword and full heavy armor!"

I'd be open to an unarmed weapon line, but it would be interesting to see how it would be put in to ensure that you could still get set bonuses (and then the things would need to be craftable at the standard set crafting stations and also drop the special arena weapons as well). I was thinking that they could be extra items at a Jewelry station, or even make it so the Unarmed passives double the set bonuses of the current rings?

But yes, I really hope there are more actual Classes coming, especially now that you can play with Class lines on existing characters (or make a new one if you have space). I still really want an Artificer so badly since that could bring in some unique skill themes like triggerable traps, while also giving a full line of Tonal Magic (aka the Bard line people want)

    Don't care
Unarmed would need to be quite strong for the loss of 2 set bonus. They could however make a 'fist' weapon like knuckles etc.

The question was 'would you be interested' so 'no' and 'don't care' seem like they're the same answer.

It's not something I'd want to play either way, but I also agree with the people pointing out that given what most people usually mean by a monk class (a DnD monk) and the way ESO character builds work it would be an unarmed skill line, not a new class.

Except I doubt they'd add a genuinely unarmed skill line, because either you'd be at an advantage by not needing to find/craft weapons while somehow still getting the stats, enchantments and set bonuses, or you'd be at a disadvantage as a result of not having them and neither is a good option. So more likely it would be some sort of 'fist fighting' weapon like brass knuckles.

(I've seen that done in other games - you equip brass knuckles which are functionally the same as other weapons, but when you're using them it looks like you're unarmed.)
