Which Subclass?

I play a Necromancer who doesn't use any of the criminal skills or really much of any of the Necromancer skills outside maybe 3-4 of them. I like the passive and the role-play I have going as someone who lost their soul becoming infused with the curse of Necromancy due to his experience in Cold Habor. Now mortal once more I resist the temptation of these dark gifts. It's cool my ability to tank is legit and I win PvPs against people in my level range. My main goal is to just be unkillable.

Anyway, I am excited about the subclasses and I am torn between replacing the Grave Robber (that is what it is don't lie to yourselves) line from Necromancer with the Nightblade's Shadow line, the Apocrypha line from Arcanist, or maybe the Dark Magic line from Sorcerer. Which would you suggest and why?

Right now, I like the sneak of the Shadow line because I don't really have any sneak skills but I do have a bow which I use to put a DoT AoE down while I tank. I have magic from Psijic and Mage Guild but the anti-magic cap on Dark Magic is nice. Arcanist would just give me even more tanking so I am really leaning towards that but I feel like I have started to get diminishing returns on the defense.

Have you played these other classes? I don't think the shadow line nor the dark magic line are what you think they are. I don't mean in power, since you're mostly talking about rp non meta stuff, just that they work in ways that don't quite match their flavour.

Besides cloak nothing in the shadow line is about sneaking and cloak is expensive and finiky to use. Maybe cloak helps you make your build, it does have uses and can be fun, but you have to build around it in non obvious ways. Negate is an ult which limits its use and in pve the things you really want to negate are immune, in pvp it has more use, but doesn't affect stam skills and isn't hard to get out of.

In general the nice thing about subclassing is going to be the fact that you're not locked in, once you have the line at 50 you can freely swap it out, so you should try it and if it doesn't work for you then swap it out. You could even create some alts to try out those skill lines and level them now if you're not against that. No one is going to know what clicks for your sense of fun and the character more than you.

I would say to actually go templar. It has some interesting and useful skills for PvP (javelin, beam) and I think fits well with your “resisting necromancy” idea as it’s the class most opposite to necromancer.

I have played all the classes, but I really only played Warden and Necromancer. When I bought the game I got in on the Morrowind Beta because I wanted a Warden class, and the original release didn't have it. Plus, it wasn't like the other ES games which picked on people who play games with others for being weak. So I needed a class in game I wanted and as a Bosmeri simp I decided to make the purchase. Had a lot of fun with Andriel Forestwind collecting art and stuff but they were really stuck on the backline. I couldn't take them in close and that was sort of how I built it plus I wanted to re-run the main story. I then created my Necromancer an Imperial musician named Heydan Seegil and they became my main. I did re-roll Andriel at one point but it just wasn't as fun. My Necromancer had to make up for their limitations in other ways. Basically I nabbed a bow and sword then dropped some magic. I can sort of move between up close, far, tank, heal, and some dps although my DPS is the worst of the lot. Anyway, its been more fun to play as but I have one entire skill line that is practically useless. The subclasses have me so excited!

Nah, Templar is my least favorite class, and they don't appear to have good tanking. Healing sure but their tanking is so-so. The Dark Magic would allow me to hit more often after blocking and I liked that, Night Blade gave a defense bonus scaled off health which I have a lot of, but I think homie from above is right. The Arcanist is probably my best bet.
