Why doesn't mudcrab chitin drop from alchemy writ rewards?

We get everything we need to craft alchemy writs from alchemy coffer rewards and surveys, except for mudcrab chitin. Why? This is the one crafting item that doesn't drop from actually doing the crafting activity. Every other crafting daily provides the required mats in its reward coffer except alchemy's requirement for mudcrab chitin.

It would be great if chitin dropped in the writ coffer or a survey, or if writs requiring chitin were just removed from the quest options.

Farming mudcrabs is so boring that I just don't even bother taking the daily alchemy writ if it requires chitin. Buying it is not worth the return on investment.

Alternatively, vary the ingredient requests a bit more. Enchanting has a similar issue with a big bias towards requesting Oko runes, it'd be nice to have uses for the other runes one might have stored up.

Is Mudcrab Chitin also available from the Shadowy Supplier or Dragon guard loot boxes? I can't say I farm it but I also don't do writs on all toons

It does. But the chances of getting it are slim as it pulls from the pool of all reagents available in game.

It would be nice if the daily writ would drop some, since every other writ drops mats specific to the writ. Granted it's always only about a 3rd of what you actually use, but at least it stems the bleeding a bit. Lately I've been chronically short on Mudcrab Chitin, and I haven't added any new toons to my daily crafting routine.

[edit] And I make it a point to never walk past a mudcrab without zapping it for the drop. Lately I've had to spend more time actively farming the stuff than I used to.

I feel like I get Mudcrab Chitin from Tales of Tribute reward coffers a fair bit of the time, although I can't really say that with a degree of confidence because it isn't something I'm watching out for so I haven't really been paying that much attention to it.

It's not just mudcrab but also violet coprinus and to a lesser extent imp stool. Fungi are not in the surveys, and little gets returned directly. At least the crabs are easy to find.

Mushrooms you can just pick. They're everywhere. Mudcrab though, you gotta kill the mudcrab first, then pray they drop the chitin.

I agree on the point that if you find a mushroom, it will always give the ingredient, while mudcrabs will do their best to drop anything else when you need the chitin.

The analogous situation is that a mushroom node will always be a different kind of mushroom from the one you need.

Low Health mudcrabs don't drop chitin, last time I tested.

Higher Health ones are productive.

There are a couple of areas that are easy Crab Farms, South Grahtwood and Northern Alikir.

I forget which Group Dungeon has a ton of crabs, but that is another good place. I don't think you have to many, if any bosses to get to a couple of pulls

In that case, people's comments about getting Mudcrab Chitin from killing Mudcrabs should not count, either, since the OP specifically mentioned that farming Mudcrabs is so boring that they'd rather just skip doing Alchemy writs altogether if they aren't going to get Mudcrab Chitin from the daily Alchemy writ rewards. /shrug

Well yeah, that is sort of the point. The rewards boxes should drop some mudcrab chitin since they are required for daily crafting writs and for all the other reasons listed above. It’s just that farming mudcrab chitin is farming mats, where ToT has nothing to do with crafting.

You're comparing a primary acquirement method with a secondary/supplemental acquirement method. Doesn't work that way.

I would love to see a Crab Hammer added to the game that increases either the drop rate or the payload of mudcrab chitin when you have it equiped. And you gotta kill the mudcrab with it.
