PvP deserter penalty

30 minutes only? Why? Please change this to 3 years or 300. Please!

vyybq14tdo1h.jpg

And I'm serious. Every time I enter PvP in this game, all I wish for is a way to never return here again. So, change this… 300 years seems fair enough to me. Please.

30 minutes seems fair for a rage leave, as they can't immediately queue for another match.

Have in mind, that someone can leave due to an urgent real life issue, where a "permanent ban" would not be cool.

I would like to add that I just had queued back to IC to turn in a quest; BG popped so I accepted, got ported into BG, and then straight out back to IC. I got a deserter penalty.

There are situations that a penalty punishes for situations outside of your control, especially with DCs. I agree people that quit a match can be a pain, but you can't have a high penalty that punishes the unintentional.

Yeah let's definitely ban everyone who's ever ragequit, been disconnected, crashed, had a RL issue come up, or otherwise left a BG. Pretty soon there won't be anyone left at all. Might be better to put some work into balancing and making them more enjoyable.

OP will be happy to know there's a really easy way to never return to pvp again... Don't queue for it. Lol. GL!

    30 minutes is perfectly fine.

IMHO PvP can be quite fun once you find a build that works best for your playstyle.

    Favorite Foods and Potions
    https://media.giphy.com/media/3otPoTggaYFNd1FdAI/giphy.gif
    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

There are situations that a penalty punishes for situations outside of your control, especially with DCs. I agree people that quit a match can be a pain, but you can't have a high penalty that punishes the unintentional.

Problems are only solved by fixing the root cause of the issue, not the symptoms. Root cause is balance.

People usually quit matches because they do not want to be there. Make it so people want to be there. This includes balance in matchmaking and balance in classes/sets. Most do not want to be in an 8v8 vs six sorcs or two bots running roa.

Point is, removing the penalty is a band aid. Zos already implements way too many band aids and then permanently ignores the actual problem. Well said, and I agree; I was not advocating for removing the penalty, just not in favor of making it "3 years." About 25% of my matches the last two days have had 6/8 sorcs on the opposing team. Balance is certainly in a silly place.

The real concern in neglected balance (or people's love of spawn camping) is a very big detriment to people having a first time experience that they want to go back to and give it another go. The BG population is not very large as it is.

It's not that simple. This screenshot is just one example! If I want to level up my Scribing skills, I don’t have to go into PvP, that’s true. But it’s one of the options available to me. So, I go there, and I absolutely hate it. What I hate the most? To get the script, I don’t just have to do something I despise so much that words can’t even express it, but I also have to win. Participating isn't enough for ZoS. We have to win! Just participating once isn't sufficient; I have to keep doing it until my team wins. Once again, I don’t have to go in there, but it’s one option available to me, so I try. I truly, deeply wish there was a way to get a 30,000-year penalty instead.

Man, did that suck during Whitestrakes. Disconnected in a match a couple of times, then I was unable to gain AP from all sources, including Cyro and Imp City for 30 minutes.

They really need to implement a 60 second window of return at least so we have a chance to get back into the match deal with deserter penalty due to disconnects.

If you dislike PvP you have two other options to obtain the scripts you are missing (Delve and Mages Guild quests). Why did you choose PvP option in the first place?

So just to make sure I'm clear here: the issue is that OP doesn't like pvp; is *not* required to pvp to obtain scripts; but cannot control themselves sufficiently to stop pvp'ing to obtain scripts unless there is a lengthy penalty for leaving a bg. Very constructive.

Or maybe PvP was the last option I had available today.

The biggest problem isn't that I hate PvP. The biggest problem is that I hate PvP, and the game rules "force" me to participate until I win the match. Wouldn't it be enough to obtain the script after participating in a PvP activity, whether winning or losing? Why "force" players to win a match?
Just to keep PvP activities more alive?! Hmm... yeah, seems fair.

Do you know guild dailies can be shared between friends and guildmates? I don't know the exact number but I think you can do well over 5-6 per day. IMO the more options the better, not everyone enjoys PVE so this gives those PVP players an extra option. :*

4v4 is NOT competitive. The Deserter Penalty should be 5 minutes not 30 minutes.

It is though. People compete over who can stand in one spot and heal more. 🤣

all I wish for is a way to never return here again.

All you have to do is don't return. It's totally your choice.

If you dislike PvP you have two other options to obtain the scripts you are missing (Delve and Mages Guild quests). Why did you choose PvP option in the first place?

Or maybe PvP was the last option I had available today.

The biggest problem isn't that I hate PvP. The biggest problem is that I hate PvP, and the game rules "force" me to participate until I win the match. Wouldn't it be enough to obtain the script after participating in a PvP activity, whether winning or losing? Why "force" players to win a match?
Just to keep PvP activities more alive?! Hmm... yeah, seems fair.

I remember Delve and Mages Guild quests can be shared, at least one of them can. So you can do more than one per day.

If it only requires people to participate in BG and not winning, most people might just join and stand at spawn. If it requires people winning, it kinda force the person to really be in there and fight. At least that's what I thought.

        From Alcast:
100% Guaranteed Script drop from the first daily coffer of each different type of daily quest and a 25% chance for a repeated daily of that type for your account.

So, shared quests only give you a chance of getting another script of the same type.

True, but they are curated. I was able to fill mine rather quickly if you do it everyday. The good scripts I actually traded around to alts to keep curating them.

And I'm serious. Every time I enter PvP in this game, all I wish for is a way to never return here again.

Blink twice if someone is holding you hostage and forcing you to do PVP against your will.

Having the option is not the same as forcing you to do it. If you must do it because the option is there, that is on you, not the game. I collected each script to all characters without any PVP. The game should not control your behaviour. You should control your behaviour.

30 minutes is fine as long as they can't see a difference between actually deserting and a disconnect due to a crash or similar. Since I use Windows 11 ESO crashes regulary, I tried repairing, reinstalling, with and without addons, Admin mode and everything, I can't stop it.
To get an even longer penalty for that would be deeply frustrating, so I guess they would need to find a way to distinct a crash from a rage quit, before they can adjust the timer.
