I have just started a new character. I like to do the tutorial because you pick up some stuff to get started with (like lockpicks, armour, weapons, you know, stuff). HOWEVER! It seems we are back to that hateful Coldharbour tutorial! The most off-putting part of this game is this offensive issue of not having a soul. With other recent characters I have happily retained my soul and ignored the dreary so-called "Main Quest"! At some time in the past it may have appealed to some dev that all players have no souls, but I actually find it offensive. Pleased drop this "Chosen One" stuff and let us be normal human beings that have that one aspect of existence that makes us human: our souls.

Just complete the Main Quest and all will be well.

It’s temporary and is a major plot point that affects specific storylines in faction leveling including some feats you wouldn’t be able to accomplish if you had your soul. It’s simply a story telling device plus you get your soul back in the end anyway.

I personally like this. Feels right. Login looks amazing.

So I got to level 4 on the new character, and it seems even though I skipped the tutorial that tedious man in the hood wants me to do his quest and I have no soul. I guess I wont be playing this character and will be never making any more.

I did the MQ twice: once each on my first two account mains. None of the rest of my alts have EVER touched the MQ (I have about 70 alts on 4 accounts both pc megaservers). Getting around the Prophet is really fairly easy: just ignore him. Yes, the damned quest will land in your log, and you can't get rid of it (VERY unfortunate, devs) - but you can ignore the quest, him, and the hooded figure if that's what you wind up with first. Just because it's in your log doesn't mean you ever have to interact with it - and quite frankly, I never pay any attention to the whole "soulless vestige" garbage.

Thank you for this, especially for telling me you have 70 alts!! I believe I just made #13, and my wife (who has 7) was giving me grief about it. I think I rather got used to being able to avoid all of this, and enjoyed having characters with a soul. It would be nice if it could be possible to continue in that way for those of us who think such things matter. So much of this game is so beautiful. It is a fun place to run around in to do quests and find chests. I don't see why being soulless should be a prerequisite.
