Slight Update, I finally made it to 3 . 4 . 2 using Isobel in full quickened tank gear. I think the key with the tank is to make sure they have good AOE CC!

I finally beat Filer's Wing, which hopefully will make fishing for Status Effects vision easier, as that definitely is a game winner.

I think it would be nice if every time we get to choose a vision, we got to choose our visions from all available visions instead of a few random ones. Of course, people would pick the most powerful visions for them first, like five focused efforts from the first five bosses, but it would probably make people stay in the IA longer and go further, breezing quickly through the first arcs to get to more challenging ones. And we could quickly get to the transformation avatars faster and they would be more useful.

I wish… that way you could actually build your way through vs random luck… would be awesome and allow for more competitive scoring.

If they can’t/won’t implement a save feature, being able to significantly power up your character faster by choosing the best visions in the early boss fights (not verses, they should stay the way they are) would just help people get to those challenging parts faster. I’m in the group of people that by the time I actually get a ways into the IA I’ve not lost any lives, but I’ve just gotten too tired or ran out of time to play so I’ll never get to experience those more challenging arcs and see how far I can actually go. 🙂

I get what you're trying to say. But if you are able to power up faster, then you're moving the goal posts so to speak. It's still going to be about the same amount of time (probably even longer actually). If you're more powerful from the jump, you'll then have to go farther in to get to challenging content. And if you get to pick and choose your visions along the way, you can conceivably never find any challenging content.

wow, I finally got through Arc 3! Arc 4 finally kicked my butt with some overwhelming help from the Thoat side of things (it was a surprise!) - but it feels possible to get through it, especially as after I discovered that I hadn't replaced my offensive blue CP with defensive ones.

So yes, tank companions, with lots of CC slotted will make life bearable! I'm running full quickened, but YMMV.

I just wish that once you got to a certain Arc, you could start at any Arc up to that point. You roll a number of random vision-select choices that you would have gotten up to that Arc. Limit it to once per day to prevent scumming. If ZOS insists, disable archival fortune gains OR disable leaderboards (not both, please).

I don't know. Sometimes I want to challenge myself and sometimes I want to just mess around in the archive from the beginning. As it is, I can only do one of those things unless I have several hours to kill. By the time I get to Arc 5, I'm usually ready to do something else.

    Way to go, @Romilly !

I like that verses and visions are random. Yes, I grouse with everyone else when I get three vision choices that don't help my build at all, and getting the Supplemental Thread achievement is a nightmare (still working on that on my alt accounts). But I like the need to change my approach depending on which verses and visions I get. Sometimes it's just for one stage, sometimes it's for the run going forward.

Something should be done about that bloody Marauder Gothmau. The damage he does is out of proportion compared to the other four marauders and the companions just ignore him. I mean, I bet he's the sort of fellow to babble about conspiracy theories at a baby shower, so I'd love to ignore him too. The problem is he does a lot of damage, even ranged!

Furthermore, the archive bugs when you crash at certain points: if it happens before getting a verse, you're unable to obtain it and the run ends; after a boss fight, it prevents the player from opening the muniment chest and obtaining a vision.

It's also very annoying how some optional content (Haefal and that corridor puzzle) and the werewolf behemoth transformation remove the steed mundus boon, forcing me to exit the archive to reactivate it.

It would be way more fun if it was just bosses. The trash waves are pointless; they're boring and annoying in the lower arcs, and boring and unnecessarily punishing in the later arcs. Traditional dungeons have interesting setups and balanced combinations of critters to go from "showing you what things are here" to "now deal with them in THIS combination!". IA has none of that, or, when it does, it's totally by accident.

I guess it's just to try to make it like a solo arena or a dungeon crawl from other games? But in a dungeon crawl, the point of the trash monsters is to get the players to use up resources before getting to the boss. That element is nonexistent here, so it really feels like the trash waves serve no purpose except to artificially pad out the time required to complete an arc (which is already a pain point).

I like this idea, a boss rush of sorts

I'm enjoying IA even though I can barely get past the last mob in arc 2. I use Isobel and play either as warden or arcanist. Only made it to arc 3 twice FYI.
I don't find the first arc boring due to I have occasionally died.
Now once in a while I'll get one boss during that phase I can't burn down. I just log on to one of my other alts then.

I'd like to see a save added. I will never complete Arc 5 because by the time I get there I'm too tired to keep going. We only have so many threads and we should be able to save and continue until they have all been used.

I'd also like to see them remove the Dragon cycle bosses until at least Arc 3.

    This.

    Add a save.

Tone down the Mauraders, or the areas in which they spawn. Nothing is more upsetting than having a good run end because it decided to give you Bittog to fight in a sardine can and you can't tank him and there is no where to kite him.

An improvement I'd like to see is making sure minion waves never have more than 1 'conduit' type enemy, the ones that lay antimagic bubbles. I think it's enough to have to prioritise one of these *** when you're on a pure magicka character.

Some bosses still need revising too - for example, Taupezzu Azida, that mantikora WB from Deadlands. Normally the arena is larger, so it spawns the crystals you need to destroy away from itself and the instakill AOE around it, but in IA it spawns the crystals WITHIN that AOE. How are you supposed to deal with that on a melee character?

Edit: And another thing, maybe it'd be possible to tweak companion AI to prioritise taunting bosses and marauders over mobs? I just had a situation where even though I repeatedly told Zerith to target Gothmau, he would only stab him once and then a little goblin that was the last of it's wave would invariably grab Zarith's aggro, causing Gothmau to turn on me as soon as the taunt wore off. It's bad enough that companions move like pregnant cows and have no hope of catching up to marauders unless you painstakingly kite one toward them.

Hey, can I tap the collective wisdom of people a bit further. I'm running a companion tank, and they rarely die (the WW behemoth got them once). But I've reached a build cap now around mid 4th cycle - and the problem is that I just can't kill the Thoat bubbles on the ground fast enough, and I end up going down to either one of the two fabled at the second half of the wave, or to just the Thoat bubbles - there's like 3-4 up all the time - if I spend timing interrupting or killing them, I just get ganked by the two fabled.

I switched out most of my blue CP to defensive, mid 3rd Arc, and slot Barrier instead of an offensive ultimate, but I just can't kill fast enough - this time I got 1 rank of Status Effects, but my build is a general Pale Order build with heavy chest, then two proc sets and Ice Heart helm.

oh - also - I've unlocked all the Filer's extras - I have 3 verses and visions, the improved verses and visions AND destruzo's extra life, I was hoping the combo of that would be enough.

If I get 3 Focussed Efforts things have gone better, but its really uncommon for that to happen - I don't know if theres anything that can influence that broken build - I always take Offensive in an attempt to narrow the pool (until I get to 3rd Arc, at which point I start taking defensive ones).

There are A LOT of things IA could improve but, at least to me, the instance reset is the biggest downside. For a number of reasons, I can't keep up for several hours straight. I'm forced to stop around 2h and if I push it's almost certain I'd be the rest of the day feeling bad.

I'd like to play more, make better scores, farm more leads and even gear, but I simply HAVE to waste 4 intact threads of fate because unable to push forward past 4-5 Tho'at's iterations (Companion runs, varies with RNG).

I mean, what's the point of an “infinite” content if I have to remain logged 24/7 (which is virtually impossible) or “cheat” with some sort of macro to spam a cheap skill indefinitely, so the thing doesn't shut down?

    1. Save - please, please, please, please add one. Most of our runs we just end with threads. Maybe something like WOW where we can lock out the instance for a week.

    2. Taupezu Azzida - He is the only boss that isn't at all fun. There isn't much counter play for any melee person.
    3. Brewmaster - Allow the dispelling explosion to work on her negate. She just makes the round longer than it should be in the small rooms. In the small rooms there is no way to taunt and get her out of her negate. We have to sit around and wait and it makes the play stagnate.
    4. Glass Leviathan - he is cool, just really hard to target. Our only spots seem like his his knee and shoulder

    Visons and verses
    5. Emissary - When you get the second emissary allow us to keep the previous emissary's buff. It would make the play more rewarding. The game play is more fun when you don't feel like your losing something.
    6. Extravagant Elixirs - I think we all would like to see Zbaza, the dragons and the glass leviathan graphically small like the rest. We think we understand why on the bosses. That if they were smaller and you got close to an edge once they grew you would be over the side. This would just be a "fun" positioning experience :D
    7. Full Coffers & Lessons Learned - Please rework these and add a buff to them. As you read every previous post, people are trying to get to higher arcs. These two are worthless for any type of progression. There are visions I understand but don't take (well trained command- my class has no pets). That is different then the disappointment of a throw away that does not help you to advance in the archive.

Otherwise great job! The archive is challenging, caused us to rework our builds over and over to get to a good game play.

I agree that we should be able to save our progress, provided we have threads left. They could just set it up like VMA where saving progress disqualifies you for the leaderboard.

For me, though, the biggest problem is that it's a bit of a slog for an almost complete lack of rewards. I got only 2 leads from IA in the past couple of months, which is lame. The Pilferer has never dropped any leads for me, and the Marauders used to, but haven't for a very, very long time.

We should be getting leads from the Tho'at chests. We should also not be penalised for trying to get the 2nd and 3rd codices of the leads. Honestly, the rewards should not be so painfully meagre.

Further, the merchants should have a larger range of rotating stock, because the majority of items on offer are often not particularly rare, which gives us little reason to even bother accumulating archival fortunes.
