A PSA For Those Taking A Break From The Game

Recently, my family, including myself, were hit with a barrage of health problems. I stepped away from gaming in general for about 3+ months, to focus full bore on our health.

Things have finally started calming down and stabilizing, so I'm back in.

I'd completely forgotten, and this is entirely on me, that I'd tried to sell my gold monster style page: Lord Warden. It is still the only monster style page I've ever gotten (aside from the ones you get during Undaunted events)

Well, shoot. It expired, and went to my mail...which I didn't check for 3+ months.

It's gone. Just gone.

So, my advice, don't "pull an Aub", make sure before you go on break that your mail and item listings are up to code. I'd absolutely hate for this to happen to anyone else

Did you contact customer support? I don't know that they can help, but it can't hurt to ask....

I probably should, but I can't fault them if they tell me thems the breaks. I'll reach out and see if anything can be done, thank you

Honestly... This has probably happened to me for a bunch of listings I make and then abandon on my frequent breaks. The expiration window gets shorter every update.

I don't know why, but I don't feel all that salty about it. I don't even know what it is I lost. I hoard a lot of stuff that's modest-to-high value, but at the end of the day... It's digital goods and monopoly money.

That being said, something like email notifications or the like could go a LONG way for giving us a heads up when stuff with attachments in our mailbox is close to expiring. Maybe... Excluding daily mats, but everything else-- gold, gear, consumables, the works. I wonder if an addon could do this.

i probably lost about 4 million gold overall in expired listings that went into expired mail that went into the void due to unscheduled breaks from the game. not the end of the world, gold is only gold, but i wonder how hard it would be to send cancelled or expired listings to your bank first? and then your inbox is used as a back-up in case your bank is full.

This change was done to "reward" people who log onto the game regularly. And to "punish" those who don't. It was done to get more regular logins from more people so their metrics look better and they can say "look how many people are logging in and how often!" I don't know of any other game that has put their player base in this situation. It's a less than friendly policy to be sure.

It was easy to predict this would happen.

Like @TaSheen said, submit a ticket and ask if they can help. They just helped me with something that I admitted was a completely noob mistake. Be sure to mention the details you listed above about medical issues being the reason why you had an unexpected absence. The only obstacle I see is you might not be able to prove what you listed and how much, unless you happen to have a screen snapshot of it. They might be able to search some logs about guild trader activity though, so you have nothing to lose.
