IS the Scribing System actually curated?

I was farming a script yesterday(Cavalier's Charge) and I chose a character that didn't have it learned because I am under the impression that characters will receive scripts that they don't already have before they receive duplicates. However, after turning in a Fighters Guild quest I received a Script that I already had learned on the character but still have at least Cavaliers Charge(likely among others) unlearned.

Any idea as to why I didn't receive a curated script for that drop? Maybe I'm missing something specific that needs to happen on that toon?

If you have it learned on another character you can just buy it

From where? I don't think they are all available at the same time in the Scholarium?

When scribing first came out, it was definitely curated. I carefully tracked which toon was carrying and had learned which scripts, and farmed them effectively.

But now, I'm trying to bank 2 of each script, so I was manipulating which toon was carrying which script when doing certain quests, and the wrong scripts seem to be dropping. So maybe the curation stopped? I thought I was just making mistakes.

What do you mean by "carrying"? In your inventory? Curation does not care about what is in your inventory. It cares about what scripts the character knows. Kind of like how set curation does not care about what is in your inventory, it cares about what is in your Collections sticker book.

I really wish this was the case but it's only a "half truth". The scripts are on rotating "wares" so it can take weeks for a specific script to show up on one of the merchants to be able to buy it. It really should be that once you've learnt it you can buy it from the scholarium vender at any time.

Carried by that toon, and not in the bank or a coffer.

When I was first farming, I certainly thought I could control which scripts I got through curation by putting any copies I already had of the scripts I wanted to farm into my personal bank, or a coffer, and so the farming toon wasn't physically carrying that script.

It seemed to work. That's what seems to have changed for me.
But I was probably incorrect all along.

They are curated within a given toon, but not across the entire account.

UESP says that script citation includes items in your inventory

The scripts that drop from reward coffers are curated until all scripts of the type rewarded (either focus, signature, or affix) by its particular source have been learnt (curation also takes into account any scripts that are unlearnt but which are currently in the character's inventory) — after which, a script drops at random.

I know it's not an official source, but just wondering.

I can’t speak to the curation but I can confirm that the drop are plentiful. Checking my storage toon I found 21 Bound Signature Script: Cavalier’s Charge

I've been working on 14 toons. From what I've experienced scripts are not curated. Or, it is not working correctly. Luckily, with events you're getting enough to ignore all the duplicates.

Scripts are curated per drop location. For example, Focus scripts come from overland delve quests, Alvur Baren's Mages Guild daily, and Rewards for the Worthy. The first Focus script you get from that source per day is curated; the rest are not.

So, if I do a delve daily, I will get a guaranteed Focus script that's curated. If I do a second delve daily, I may get a Focus script, but it won't be curated. But I could still get a curated Focus script from a Reward for the Worthy coffer or Mages Guild daily.

Also remember that there are scripts you cannot get from dailies. These are the ones you receive during the scribing tutorial and the other quests, which can be purchased from Firandil once he's available. The rest have to be picked up from the Mages Guilds on each character. For example, you will never receive a Damage Shield script from a daily--that has to be collected from the Davon's Watch Mages Guild.

Yes, scripts are curated. A toon will not get a duplicate drop of a script it's already known in a given category of script. For example, if that toon knows all but one affix script, then does an activity that drops an affix script, that toon will get the last affix script in needs upon completion of the activity. After that, the same toon will start getting duplicate affix scripts if they do an activity that drops an affix script because they already know them all.

There are focus, signature and affix scripts. You can look up which activities drop which type of script your trying to get, then do those activities with toons that don't know the scripts your looking for. I found the "script tracker" add-on to be enormously helpful in keeping track of which toons need to learn which scripts and of which category. It will also let you view all your toons at the same time and shows what every toon still needs to get so you can make sure to do the right activity on the right toon to make sure you don't get duplicate drops because the toon already knows all the scripts in that category.

An account is guaranteed to get 9 script drops per day, 3 of each of 3 categories. After that scrips still drop, but only at about 25% rate.
