i started playing eso about 10 months ago (still love the game ofc)
and one thing i noticed shortly after joining the community was how extremely
salty veteran players are towards the developers (even adjusting for the
base rate of saltiness in competitive online games).
however, sadly, i have found over the last few patch cycles that as a player and customer,
zos lack of communication is extremely frustrating and im not surprised that there
appears to be a somewhat adversarial relationship between the developers and the
hardcore (pvp and pve) communities (i.e. the people who arguably dedicate the most effort
and attention to the game).
looking at the recent pts patchnotes, zos dumps some massive changes for some of the few sets
that are actually viable in pvp (rele / wof / null arca), with a 2 line "dev comment" as justification.
afaict uniformely across pcna and pceu, elite players disagree with at least some of the changes.
are they correct? i dont know, but in any other serious game like dota or starcraft, changes like
this (which have the potential to ruin the gaming experience for a patch) would be justified
with data along the lines of "we analyzed 10k battlegrounds and found that...".
additionally, if the feedback from people who have tens of thousands of hours of high level experience
in the game is "i think this change will be really bad", at the very least whoever is responsible for
proposing the change should be explaining their decision making process in detail.
finally, it would demonstrate a modicum of respect for my time as a player if you could clearly explain
what changes are actually being made in the patch notes and not make me waste my time on pts. which null
arca bug was fixed? the double proc in single gcd or the aoe proc (was that even a bug? i guess
one upside of poorly written patchnotes is that you have to expand on your decision making even less
since we dont even know what the decision was).
the fact that none of this ever occurs, makes it look like zos is either incompetent, or operates
on the assumption that they know best and engaging with their customers is beneath them (I should
add that overall over the time ive played every patch has been a step in the right direction so I'm
not necessarily saying they dont on some level

)
if zos does not have the capability to balance their game to a modern standard, i would politely
suggest just forming an advisory board composed of the top performing players (hopefully zos at least
keeps some logs for trials and bgs around) and outsourcing the balancing details to the community
(when i write top performing, I do not have crit heal medal score in mind btw).
cheers!
