MMR Reset Schedule?

Please stop resetting MMR.

Please let us know the cadence for reset.

This seems to coincide with Competitive Battle Ground Leaderboard reset, but not 100% sure.

Yeah, for all but the top players these MMR resets are a bad deal. I thought they happened at the beginning of each month. It seemed obvious that it reset half way through the Whitestrake event.

It’s my opinion that MMR should almost never reset period, and it should be account wide. How are new players supposed to get interested in battlegrounds when they get clubbed like baby seals any time during the month? Because that’s the defacto result of these resets. Which begs the question, who is this done for and why?

And unfortunately in the battleground Q & A, ZOS basically said they’re not changing this any time soon.

I’m a huge fan of ESO and pretty much all activities in it, basically I’m a fanboy. But I have to question developer choices like this.

They're bad for top players too

I don't think most top players want this. The few that do likely have self-esteem issues and going 40-0 makes them feel better about their lot in life... who knows?

I want the most competitve bgs possible. Resetting mmr completely negates any ordering that happened before the reset and makes bgs way less competitive for about 3 weeks.

    MMR resets are total madness.

There is no other multiplayer game I play that completely resets MMR of the whole player base like ever.

You can have several systems like MMR decay if you don't play for a while. Or lower MMR slightly for everyone after a season to let them climb back up one step. But a total reset is basically just the same as having no matchmaking at all most of the time.

A lot of games out there already struggle with decent matchmaking. If you constantly reset it, it is always bad for everyone and no matches feel exciting or competitive.

I have read their Battleground post and from the answer it seems everyone has to suffer for those 5 people who like going for the leaderboards, while all others don't care at all about this and just want some balanced fun matches.

Having mmr reset is fine and should be a thing. Having a character being stuck at a specific mmr leads to obscene queue times (with how it currently works) and no one likes spending more time waiting to PvP than actually doing PvP. I do however think having mmr reset once/month is too frequently and I think once/patch would be appropriate enough.

Edit: Mmr should be visible and not be based on an accumulative score/games played. It should also be able to go down based on your performance and win/loss rate.

It’s not just MMR that’s the problem unfortunately. However they’re distributing players between teams, it’s not working, at all. I feel like if they go through their coding for this they would find some horrible error. Like if you lose a game you get put on a team with other players that lost their last game too lol. I don’t know what it is but something is horribly wrong here and it isn’t good for anybody that loves this game mode.

A good MMR-system should recalibrate quickly after win and loss streaks. It should also kick players who pub stomp matches to super high MMR quickly where they belong quickly and detect conscious downranking quickly.

Team based games are fun for no one if the skill gap is too big between the teams due to bad matchmaking. Constant MMR resets will make sure this mode will never get in a good place.

At least we have a separate solo queue, that's a first big improvement for solo players.

It is very dumb. It takes an eternity to get down to Bronze elo every reset. It's still the best way to level my 18 crafting alts and that sucks

MMR is worthless and doesnt do anything. I see easy to kill players who contribute very little to a victory score at the top of the leader boards every single game. Ill go 25-0 killing people taking flags holding choas ball saving PVE players from getting ganked, put up 1.5m damage and get 400 points lol.

MMR still seems to be just the sum of battleground medals you got since last reset. Combined with the 100k XP for winning the first battleground per day only given when you are not last(which with old bgs was 1 of 3 teams, now 1 of 2) a player trying to get 100k XP has to do battlegrounds until he wins one and for every lost battleground his mmr increases making the battlegrounds harder and harder(to win) and loosing even more likely.
A player loosing match after match should not get his mmr increased but not his 100k XP forcing him to play increasingly more difficult battlegrounds until he wins one or miss out.
After a while doing only your daily battleground for XP will get you to high mmr where you are farmed without getting your reward until you quit.
With a mmr calculating only your playtime even if you loose and no way to loose mmr combined with having to play until you win to get reward a reset of mmr is sometimes needed to allow players with mmr higher than their actual skill have fun in battlegrounds again.
The MMR is also characterwide so with a twink pro players can still do low mmr battlegrounds especially if they have many of them.
Current calculation of MMR should be replaced by a combination of dmg done/received/healed, KDR, medals/bg-wins and other factors average per bg and players should get reward also if they loose if they really tried.
