We need the option to hide hip flaps (or armor)

I recently found a liking to the Crimson Oath armor. However, the hip flaps (or armor) are way to expanded outward. Either they need to adjust this, or give us the option to hide them. What are your thoughts?

Agreed. I've been looking through the armor outfits for trim, slim outfits. The hip flaps on many of them disqualify many outfit pieces for looking like a jacket or longcoat top. Especially in the medium armor section where you'd expect very maneuverable armor. Some of these flaps clip through other outfit pieces or even just hang onto thin air. I think it'd be a big win to have them optional. Some dev team members going through and doing this would be a great effort.

The flaps are all connected to the chest armor. There's been indications for years that while players detest them, the devs aren't going to do the work to remove them.

Not only aren't they removing them, they keep making more armor with them. Why?

To be honest, the medium chest piece of Crimson Oath is not as bad as the light, which is odd

They clearly care alot about the asthetics of the game so I don't know

They are few without the flaps; they look really cool and are very medieval. Please, ZOS, do retire the hip flaps. 'tis time.

Edit: new gears without the hip flaps look truly medieval and are really cool.

I think, flaps are a lazy way to attach the node of the skeleton, where your weapons are, so there is less clipping inside of the character‘s body.
It can be done without but it‘s more complicated I guess. At least with the many different models of weapons that are attached to the hips.

Even if we must have hip flaps for any reason, I don't understand why we need to have enormous, ugly ones with skulls/bones/spikes? A slimline, subtle design would be much better, especially for light/medium armour.

Yuck. The floating hip flaps and pauldrons are objectively hideous. Ditto to the gross flaps.

yes it would be awesome to get options to hide them.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind most of them so much if the weapons didn't clip through them. But having your sword disappearing partially through the things is incredibly frustrating. What is the point?

    Agree.

At a lazy bare minimum, quit putting flappers on new light and most medium armors.

If serious about long term prospects for the game, go back and reengineer all things that attach at the waist (hip/butt/crotch flappers, books, scroll cases, pouches, etc) to be attached to belts instead of chest pieces. That way you could pick the basic chest design you like, then add (or not) any attachments you may (or may not) want at the waist via belts. Flexible and fun!

I believe that the skeleton has bones for the attachment of tassets and sheathed weapons, that are in that order going out from the hip. It is not clear if the hip slider in character generation affects these. They may be the same bones used for both.

If the tassets are not present, there would be a gap between hip and weapons in theory. However, in practice, my characters using the wood elf jacks don't show one, so I am unsure if I widened the hips to lose the gap, or if the choice of chest is making a skeletal adjustment. Probably the only way to determine this is to play in character generation with an armor that suffers from floating tassets, if that's possible. You don't get many choices there.

It is possible that one part of the art team is putting in tassets as gap-fillers, while another group is making the skeleton adjust to eliminate the need, and the memo got lost. We may never know.
