Housing Camera Float

I just recently got into housing because of the house of the five. First off, really awesome house with a view of IC.... un-believably cooooooool.

Second, my family now have an interest in it, after watching me try and completely fail to decorate with all my bg shields and flags. Again. Way cool.

They took over and said why can't we move the camera around the entire space, up to the top, etc. To place furnishings... we were trying. Well... they were trying to put a light at the top of the internal dome and couldn't reach it. Also, once placed, they couldn't interact with it.

I said I didn't know but I would ask. Can we move around the space while placing furniture free from the limits of physics that constrains our toons? Kind of like Minecraft?

I didn't see a housing section so I placed here.

Housing forum is now found in Game Systems unfortunately.

I've used the addon Essential Housing Tools for so long that I'm no longer sure what's the addon and what's the base game controls.

If you are on PC I would recommend it, it has a lot of tools that aid placement.

Also even with the addon, I always have planks and platforms available to use as scaffolding when building in high or out of bounds areas! 🙂

Thank you both. I am on PCNA and will take a look at the add on. would still be cool if you could move the camera without the need for scaffolding, which was my plan B.

I'd suggest Magic Carpet add-on, but after almost having a heart attack during Halloween I'd really suggest you to saty away of it

I’m on console so no addons, but there is a setting that lets the furnishing slide along surfaces to place objects further away, something like “surface drag on/off”. It’s kind of glitchy so I sometimes have to switch it back and forth to get it to work. It also seems to work the opposite way I would expect it to.

I agree that some easier way would be nice, like let your character float in space so you could move around more easily. It’s been way too long since the housing editor got an update, and many more improvements are needed to make it more useful and user friendly,

Yes the Housing Editor needs improvement. I planned to have the Five Companions Keep interior as an art gallery. Placing paintings higher up was frustrating but using stairs was the soloution.

Here I use High Isle Stairway, Tilework (craftable) to reach the upper sections.

I never needed any addons for housing. It is not like it is difficult to place or remove anything. The ingame fine adjustments (I have it on button F) can be triggered on any placed furnishing and you can still move your character while doing that.

For example, when I place chandeliers, I always go upstairs to check if the chandelier clips through the ceiling.

The camera needs improvements in many areas of the game, though. I can understand if other players feel the interior camera needs improvements as well.

Once, during Halloween, I was building my house after doing Witches' Festival quests then suddenly one of the Undaunted Trophies simply popped in front of me. Some people might seem this as a funny thing, but for someone with a heart condition like me (mild, but present) the shock was really painful.
