My notification for members joining or leaving our guild stopped working a very long time ago. It did this once then months later came back and worked fine again.

I ended up leaving that guild and joining another, then several months later it did it again in the new guild, and it still hasn't come back. It's been well over a year now.

I already tried disabling addons etc. to see if one of them was causing this, but it's almost impossible to test it not knowing exactly when a member will be joining or leaving. The only way I know if a new member joined is when someone in guild chat welcomes them.

Is there an addon that controls this feature that I can install and set to give these notifications? Maybe that will fix this problem.

Thank you.

The game will notify you concerning members of the most recent guild you've looked at the roster in. It will stay that way until you look at another of your 4 remaining guild rosters. Then THAT guild will show the notifications. You can also just check the guild history for that information

"No Thank You" has some settings for guild roster alerts. Maybe the setting to redirect to chat will help you.

There seem to be a lot of versions of No, thank you. I guess I should get the Gold Road one. I hope I don't need them all.

If you're just in 1 guild, then you do already get instant notifications as it happens in addition to it being viewable on the roster.

MIne has been broken for well over a year. There are no sounds and the notification text at the top right corner of the screen no longer appears.

I know I can check the roster, but I like to hear people when they join so I can welcome them.

I've never heard of or experienced that bug.

Perhaps work out a time with an officer of the guild where you can turn your addons off, have someone drop & rejoin, and see if the bug persists for you.

I know it's still broken because sometimes I see people say "Welcome" in guild chat, and if I look at the roster I see someone had just joined.

This has happened to me in 2 different guilds. The first time it happened, a few months later it just started working again. But this time it hasn't.

Anyway I am going to see if toggling it on with No, thank you gets it working again.

I'm confused. You mentioned inability to test with addons turned off because you never know when someone will join.

I suggested a method where you could very quickly rule out addons being the culprit.

    Sorry for the confusion.

I left add-ons off for a few hours one day and my friend told me when he heard someone join. I still didn't hear it.

Oh, my bad. I was going off of your comments that you couldn't test with addons off.

My mistake. I wasn't clear about that.

But I installed No, thank you and set it to not turn off guild roster announcements, so I'll see if that fixes it.

Well nothing has worked to fix this issue. I've tried everything I can think of. I wish there was a less disruptive way to test this besides asking our GM to remove and re invite members.

If you want to test if any addon is disturbing I recommand to logout and rename the live/AddOns folder to live/AddOns_backup.
This will definately disable all addons and makes it a clean test with vanilla code.
Then check settings ingame for any notification settings (there exist some for trials and highscores afaik, but I don't remember any guild joined or leave message settings).

If that works and you hear them, then it was an addon disturbing.
Create a new folder live/AddOns and only copy over needed dependencies and e.g. No Thank You.
Test if that removes the messages.
If not, it was another adodns.
So go on copying over other guild related addons, or the ones who got something to do with guild join and leave.

You can find these addons by scanning your live/AddOns_backup folder with windows search, or a free tool like Notepad++ (use search -> search in files and folders -> live/AddOns_backup *.lua and *.xml files) for the string

    EVENT_GUILD_MEMBER_ADDED
    EVENT_GUILD_MEMBER_REMOVED

    Hint:
    These events play a sound
    Added: SOUNDS.GUILD_ROSTER_ADDED
    Removed: SOUNDS.GUILD_ROSTER_REMOVED

You can search for that GUILD_ROSTER_ADDED or GUILD_ROSTER_REMOVED in the files too, to see if any addon manipulates that.

Or search for the code "method names":
    OnGuildMemberAdded
    OnGuildMemberRemoved

    Or
    GUILD_ROSTER_MANAGER:OnGuildMemberAdded
    GUILD_ROSTER_MANAGER.OnGuildMemberAdded
    GUILD_ROSTER_MANAGER:OnGuildMemberRemoved
    GUILD_ROSTER_MANAGER.OnGuildMemberRemoved

Hope that makes you determine any addon in question.

For testing that unfortunately you need a guild, right.
The first 2 weeks of a new PTS is NA server so you can test it on the PTS there.
After that it's EU server data so if you do not have any toon there you cannot test it right now.
But you could create any dummy guild on the PTS and just invite any friends and then test the leave and join with the friends.
I think you only need 10 accountnames to create the guild? Or even less and the 10 need only to stay inside so you got bank access?

I tried searching for those suggestions but didn't find any of them in any of the files.

I am wondering if it's a game bug and not an addon at all because it happened just out of the blue, and not after adding any new addons or changing any settings.

You can only test that with all addons disabled, unfortunately.
If that still happens and there is no vanilla setting to disable the notifications, then it is a game bug and you should report it via /bug.
But they definately will ask for addons, so make sure you really did not load any (e.g. by using the rename trick of live/AddOns -> AddOns_backup I described above).
