    Unless this goes on for a full day+, this is just normal life with MMORPGs and no sort of compensation need be given.

    If the game unexpectedly goes down for days (not hours), then you should be asking for compensation. Let ZOS work on getting everything back up before making demands.

    Most likely won't happen. You can of course choose to hire an attorney, but arbitration is in place with most companies of this nature today.

    Hahaha, I still remember when PC-EU was constantly down and we got no compensations back then, not even xp scrolls (this was 5+ years ago), so I doubt you'd get compensated.

    Given that you agree to it prior to signing (can't check the exact wording because that part of the website is currently down, but it's there), it's not like you didn't make an informed decision that there may be planned and unplanned outages interrupting your access, and that zos is not liable for them.

    It's not the fault of Zenimax for the server power outage. These inconveniences randomly happen. I'm ok with no compensation for this.

    It's actually quite common in MMO's to have minor compensations (Like EXP scrolls or something) for unexpected downtime. Mind you, I don't expect or need compensation, but I think the mentality that there should be some sort of compensation might come from expectations set up by other companies. I don't really blame people for finding it odd that ESO doesn't do this- I found it odd when I first began playing as well, simply because I was used to it.

    With that being said, I don't really feel that the company is obligated to do anything, especially considering the outage isn't their fault.

    I used to play a lot of BDO and for something as short as maintenance running long, PA would give compensation. It was usually an email with some trinkets. That would be equivalent to getting a few crown XP buffs, tri-pots, meals, etc. I think the amount would be commensurate with the downtime.

    They also had this neat daily login reward system where if you were behind, you could double up on the weekend so long as you were logged in at least an hour on Sat and/or Sunday. All items were automatically collected in a "safe" that all characters could collect, so no issues with forgetting to collect and missing out on the weekend.

    Still, ESO is a better game.

    Let's see, the game's been down for what, an hour so far? I'll even say 2 for the sake of argument. The ESO plus period is 30 days, which is 720 hours, for $15. (2/720)*15 = 0.042.

    I'm sure the lawyers will be lining up to take the case.

    That is, if one hadn't also signed a binding arbitration agreement and agreed to terms that explicitly do not guarantee that the game will be available at all times. Good luck with that!

    Compensation for a long, unexpected outage might be a nice gesture. Personally I'd at least wait to see how long until it gets resolved before I started demanding things.

    (EDIT - just to add, I posted this before the latest update that it will take a significant amount of time for the game to be back up. So, again not gonna start making demands, but something like extending the eso plus free trial / distributing seals of endeavor to make up for today might be a nice gesture).

    I could see that if the outage is several hours to days. But not if it's resolved quickly.

    Zos has compensated in various ways for such things before, albeit rarely.

    Years back (over a decade ago) I played both wow and rift. Neither of them compensated for downtime caused by circs beyond their control.

    I'm just home from work and I've read the post where Gina says the servers will be down around 12 hours (or more). By my reckoning that takes us over into tomorrow as far as ESO is concerned so if you've not already collected today's login rewards and endeavours you're out of luck. :(

    Actually it does.

    Given that you literally agree with the terms of service in order to access the game, it means you already waived your rights to demand compensation for periods where you cannot access the game.

    We don't need compensation. Even for things within ZOS' control.

    Sometimes companies provide compensation simply to earn goodwill.

    ZOS has been making more of a point to do things like extend events by a day to compensate for scheduled maintenance, for example.

    I also recall when a game like WoW was unplayable for a period of time (Like 1+ week) due to some server issues, they provided a free month extention on subscriptions.

    Compensation can be a nice way to make people feel better about issues and the company in general.
