personally im not really thrilled with the tel var merchant cause it is vastly overpriced, pretty much everything in that vendor needs to be reduced by about 75% minimum

Yeah it is, but for some things it will be worth it. I think the ones for sale with Fortunes are too expensive too but there are others, including yourself, who disagree.

most of the fortune ones are in the 5-10k range, can usually make about 2000-2500 for arc 1 clear (~15k for arc 4 clear), the other caveat is this is also fixed amounts, and theres no chance to lose the currency
for tel var saving up 25,000 takes a lot of effort, i can usually make 20-25k doing a run to the middle killing molag bal, and running back to base, but the big IF is not dying at all to either NPCs or players, while you can make tel var faster carrying more, your also risking more to lose
so 5000 fortunes for a lead vs 25,000 tel var for a lead makes the tel var a significant hurdle for most people, mostly because it has a gambly risk vs reward structure
ive farmed probably close to 350k tel var in the past couple weeks because i wanted to finish IC gear so i bought ~35-40 boxes at 6k tel var each, but there were times i didnt make a lot due to getting zerged while i was fighting a boss in the middle or something to that effect
if you have like hundreds of thousands of tel var just sitting around, then sure its your money you can spend it on whatever, but personally i could see far more valuable options to spend the tel var on than the overpriced rotation vendor (you could buy 5 hakeijos for the price of a lead for example)

I’m stuck on the Duel side-thingy in IA so I only get about 1000 Fortunes per arc 1, I think. I can get more tel var but it’s time consuming too because I don’t like carrying a lot of it and make trips back to base.
Neither of those are my favorite activities but I do as much as I can stand.

yeah i get if you dont like the activities (oddly enough i actually enjoy both of those activities lol)
but from a time spent/risk vs reward comparison, the tel var is vastly overpriced compared to the archive vendor
the ~2000 fortunes earned from arc 1 will vary a bit, depending on how many scamps and bonus portals you do, but you should also be getting 500 minimum from the daily quest to finish arc 1 too
without eso+, the 4 cycle bosses in arc 1 give 200 each (total 800), and arc 1 tho'at i think gives 400, +500 from the first daily quest (total is 1700), if you dont count the quest the minimum is 1200
eso+ gives a 10% bonus to fortunes so it would be 1870 fortunes roughly at a bare minimum from arc 1 if you completed the quest, or 1320 without the quest
each scamp or bonus portal completed adds an additional 200 fortunes to the total
if you go through an arc 2 clear, the values of fortunes increases on all of the bosses and tho'at, plus theres a marauder which is extra sources of fortunes, along with the ghost daily for an additional 500 fortune bag
clearing arc 2 once a day, completing both dailies is:
800 fortunes for arc 1 cycle bosses
400 arc 1 tho'at
500 daily tho'at quest
1200 arc 2 cycle bosses
600 arc 2 tho'at
300 arc 2 marauder (if killed, should be able to with tank companion if nothing else)
500 ghost daily quest (fabled one definitely completes by end of arc 2)
clearing arc 2 without any scamps or bonus portals, and completing 2 daily quests first time of the day is worth 4300 fortunes, which is almost enough to buy a lead (if you complete any scamps or portals then you should definitely be able to afford a lead)
this should take, even being a little slow, only about 30-45 min, with 0 risk
tel var on the other hand, takes me approximately an hour to run to the middle kill molag bal, and run back to base, again killing everything including other banner bosses, i can usually net about 20-25k tel var from this, but theres a huge risk in the case theres other players wandering the area between the yellow base and the middle, or come up and dogpile me in the middle while im fighting the bosses
if one of those situations happen, i might have only made 4-6k tel var for the run due to doing only half or less of the run, plus losing half of the tel var to the thing that killed me
and the vendor is telling me i need 25,000 tel var for a lead, or assuming i always get a successful 1 hour run in where i get a lot of banners and dont see any other players, taking slightly longer than the archive, and a significantly higher risk
most avg players probably only make like 5000 tel var in an hour farming the circuit closest to their home base, so they would take 5 hours to farm enough for the lead, but even just doing arc 1 in the archive could have enough for a lead after 2 runs, even if the runs take 40 min each
i hope this is able to clarify why i feel the tel var vendor is significantly overpriced

I understand why you feel that way, you are enjoying the IA content and are able to participate more frequently and for longer periods of time than I can, so you accumulate lots of Fortunes. I prefer to do Cyrodiil for my activities, so if things were sold in AP I could spend vast quantities of that currency on leads and not bat an eye.
I have to prioritize my spendings with Fortunes because I still have many IA leads that I do not have a single one of them, I still don’t have all of the gear, or the style pages, or the many collectible things that drop in there. At best I can average one run a week but some weeks like when events are on I don’t get around to it. So the prices in Fortunes are excessively expensive for me. It’s all relative.

yeah it would be nice if they had a rotational vendor in cyro for these types of things too (i also have huge amounts of AP when i grinded to GO a couple years ago)
and yeah the only way to get fortunes is to run it, if your not running it much, or very far, then the fortunes take time to build up
optimally i think arc 2 clears are probably the most efficient, you get 1 armor and 1-2 weapons for class gear, not too difficult to blow through with a dps and a tank companion and can make almost enough for a lead with 1 run in a week now that theres 2 daily quests that are easy to do (the destozuno one is also a daily, but that one is hugely RNG)
if it were possible i would help you on runs, since i can get through arc 4 pretty easy and the fortunes would build up, but i know your on a console server and theres no form of cross play yet lol

Aw man, that’s really nice of you to offer. I wish I could take you up on it. I’d love to get the Inkslayer title someday but it would have to be a carry like that, lol. I have gotten to arc 3 with Bastian once or twice but it’s a real slog for me and things end quickly at that point. No big deal though, there are several achievements I will never get.

tel var on the other hand, takes me approximately an hour to run to the middle kill molag bal, and run back to base, again killing everything including other banner bosses, i can usually net about 20-25k tel var from this, but theres a huge risk in the case theres other players wandering the area between the yellow base and the middle, or come up and dogpile me in the middle while im fighting the bosses
if one of those situations happen, i might have only made 4-6k tel var for the run due to doing only half or less of the run, plus losing half of the tel var to the thing that killed me
i hope this is able to clarify why i feel the tel var vendor is significantly overpriced
