Does anyone know how tribute ranks work?

I've been playing ToT for the achievements, so don't care about leaderboard, but the ranks seem weird.

I win about 30% of my competitive matches, but note my Tribute rank bounces between 200 and 350. It doesn't seem to be correlated with whether I win or lose. Sometimes I lose and my ranking goes up, others go down. Same for wins.

I *think* rank is based on how many points the person you beat has. If they have bupkis, you win bupkis. If they have points, you can win up to 150 points, but I'm not sure what determines how much you win. Is it the difference between your points and theirs? Maybe. But the max you can win is 150. Reverse for losing - max you can lose is 150.

The reason why you may appear do go up on the leaderboard when you lose, or down when you win, is you just played a match with a small reward or loss of points, perhaps zero, and someone above you lost points or someone below you gained points, in the same timeframe as you did.

+1 on this. For what it’s worth, it seems like loosing matches actually decreases leaderboard number significantly, and winning seems to increase it, which is backwards?

But its also all random. So RNG card game where cards you get are RNG, rewards you get are RNG, and rank you have is RNG.

Was the lead designer a lottery player?

for the pvp leaderboard ranks you gain points on a win and lose pts on a loss

gains are between 0 and 150 pts per match

for loss i think its capped on how much you can lose, but i dont recall what this is since i rarely participate in pvp tribute

the normal "tribute rank" that shows on the tribute queue does not decrease and can be increased by playing matches with NPCs too

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

How many points do you need to rank up?

Question was more curiosity about ranking on leaderboards than ranking up to Rubedite. It's just a curiosity since I have no interest in playing more ToT.

This explains how to rank up to Rubedite: https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Tales_of_Tribute

I just won 210 points in a competitive.
