[REQUEST] Allow 10min ingame preview for character change token

I often encounter following issue: I buy a token for a modification of my character as I no longer am satisfied with the looks. I change it and think: That's it!

But then I load it into the game and: Deception!

Since this token is quite expensive with respect to the little thing I want to do with it I suggest the following approach:

Upon activating the token I can as usual change the appearance of my character. I accept the changes and can play this character with the new appearance. After let's say 10min of play a popup window appears asking me if I am ready to accept the changes made to my model. If I press yes the token is consumed. If I press no, I am redirected to the character editor and can make final changes and when I accept it the token is consumed.

I understand that this requires a little bit of coding as the game would have to remember if I already rejected once the modification.

To avoid this it could of course be not implemented and as long as the token is not consumed I get the popup window after 10min.

I'd prefer for them just to place barbershops in the game like every single other MMO rather than monetizing every single thing.

Look at Wow - you can change gender and all looks for in game gold. That's what we need. Less monetization, more player agency.

I totally agree with this, but have to add that although WoW does this right, there are other things that ESO does better, like ESO’s outfit system. Every time you get a new piece of armor in WoW you have to go to a transmog vendor (unless you’ve paid for one that comes with a mount you can summon out in the field), and pay gold to change the look of that piece to what you want it to be. Chances are you’ll run around playing for a while looking like World of Clowncraft until you make it back to a transmog vendor! This is the main reason I rarely play WoW anymore. And, if you want to check your mail, you have to find a mailbox in a town or city (unless you’ve paid for the mount that summons a mailbox for you out in the field, currently a limited time anniversary offering for $90). In ESO we’ve always been able to check our mail anywhere for free.

I just think it’s important when using another game is given as an example of what ESO should be like we point out that ESO has some things that other games should consider using as examples too. 😊

Not saying ESO doesn't do great things - that's why we're here. One thing that it does terribly though is the degree of monetization relative to other MMOs. I just don't want to see this game continue down a consistent cycle of over-monetization rather than giving players content and agency. It's my favorite game of all time - wouldn't criticize it if I didn't care or didn't love it.

This just comes off as not being able to handle criticism of any aspect of the game without going "but what about (unrelated thing) !!!". You can post what you think other games should improve on their own forums

Actually I agree wholeheartedly with that.

The thing is: I don't believe this is going to happen.

They will not foresake on a thing that they successfully monetize on it.

Hence I try to suggest something that increases the chances to see it implemented.

I mean... one of the reasons it's monetized so heavily is that it also doesn't have a mandatory sub. We can all argue about how much ESO+ is 'necessary' depending on our respective playstyles, but the fact of the matter is that it is completely possible to play ESO to a large extent without buying anything beyond the base game (which is often on sale for under $10, and has frequent F2P events)

Also, all of the monetization in the Crown Store is cosmetic, save for specific time-savers which can be obtained in game.

    ---

As to the request, I don't know if they could do that (at least not without bugging something else), but there is a trick I always use to get everything perfect without relying on the terrible lighting of the Character Creation screen: the PTS.

If you have space on your computer (or have a PC account), you can get the PTS and make your character there. They give you 5500 crowns every time the PTS refreshes and everything in the store there is only 1 crown cost, so I end up buying a bunch of appearance tokens and then go in and out constantly until I'm happy with how my character looks. One more token, and I screenshot my finalized sliders, and that way when I make my character on Live I know exactly how I want them to look without needing to buy a token to fix anything after the fact.

Granted, you won't have all you collectables unless you're playing on PCEU, since the PTS is only a copy of the NA servers for the first two weeks of a patch and then EU until the next one. I'd like it if it was a little more even between servers, but I definitely make good use of those two weeks to test my looks (and a few things in game for feedback, but details details), and then EU allows me to still play around if I can make characters' looks without using collectables (like if I only need basegame hairstyles and fashions)

That is a good advice. However, for many of my characters collection items are very important. Also: The body shape changes dependiing on the motif you have applied.
