"Rounds" In Battlegrounds

Hello,

Here's a scenario: Two of my teammates have run out of lives, leaving just me and one other teammate to fight a team of 4 for the rest of the round. To have found ourselves in this predicament to begin with one must assume we were the weaker team from the start. What hope do we have now that we must fight 2v4? Why prolong the inevitable.. the match should just end right then.

I propose that the Team as a whole have a finite number of lives. Once the the team has reached X number of deaths, the round ends.

An even better solution, imo, would be to remove rounds altogether. But short of that I think the above solution would be welcome by many.

Thanks!

Ket

There was a patch note that made it seem like they listened to this feedback, so I was really sad to read the official update notes this morning.

It really needs to be team lives, or, just have the rounds play out to the death of the team like every other team vs team game has done.

Bringing this back up for visibility. The "finite-lives" system has got to go. It only punishes the weaker team for being the weaker team. If players are running out of lives, that must mean their team is already at a disadvantage. Why make it completely hopeless? I find myself on the giving and receiving end of this issue about equally.. it isn't fun for anyone in either case.

Speak for yourself, adding round based lives was the BEST change they made this update.

We need more round based modes for the game, honestly they all should be round based in 4v4.

Matches are too long, especially when a team has a much better composition, if this tank meta isn’t going anywhere… build for it. Let lives matter more, and games end faster.

I think you may have misunderstood. I agree with @ketsparrowhawk that having individual lives is pointless in the 4v4 deathmatch mode. Just make it one life to live and when the team wipes, the round is over and a countdown for the next round begins.

You're both saying the same thing.

The lives actually adds a layer of tactic behind the new 4v4 deathmatch mode. The best games I´ve played this patch (and also the closest ones that all went to a 3rd round) was won because either team could figure out what player to focus down quickly (because they´re either the biggest threat or they key to their potential success), aka make them unable to respawn. In some of these games you realize that the enemy team is trying to do the same to someone on your team and it´s up to you to prevent that.

So no, keep the current rounds and lives for the 4v4 deathmatch.

If the team as a whole had finite lives that would work. As it is, it doesn't speed the match up at all. Once someone runs out of lives the rest of the team stops jumping out of spawn because they know they have no chance fighting outnumbered (and they were already the weaker team)

500/3 = ~165. Imagine that... right back where we started. All that's left at this point is to add the third team back in and we're good.

Even better, I think lives should be limited to one per round and the amount of rounds increased to 7 or so.

To have a more balanced and fun battleground experience, I think the teams should also be shuffled in solo queue between rounds.

This allows for players to have agency on whether they have fun or not, rather than have that dictated by the matchmaking (and then just having to suffer through multiple rounds of lopsided combat).

Having a team # of deaths compared to a solo # would not work in my opinion. It wouldn't be so bad for a premade group, but in solo the risk of having a lone player that is terrible or even trolling, could eat up all the team deaths.

The only benefit of rounds with lives is that they speed up deathmatches. In practice, it just makes the losing team lose more with the bad feeling of being outnumbered or having to watch your team lose from spectator. It makes matches feel quick and unbalanced, which IMO isn't fun after waiting in queue for so long.

I've had very rare matches go 2-1 in Rounds deathmatch, it's almost always 2-0. Maybe there are some teams having evenly-balanced matches, but I find they rarely feel that way. It feels worse to be outnumbered. 4v4 deathmatches turn into ball-against-ball without a third team to break the match up, so I don't like them as much.

Maybe they could have 3 rounds where the players are split into two 2v2 sides with a final 4v4 (with no prep time to switch builds via Wizard's Wardrobe to make it fair). The timer should reduce when one side wins. I guess that could still feel bad to get lucky/unlucky with the groupings, but it would make the rounds feel distinct and balance out ballgroups. Would be wacky and different, for sure.

For match diversity and competitive opportunity, matches should reward players for a balance of grouping and splitting up, not just one or the other. To me, that's when PvP feels alive, even though it's less optimized than sticking with a ball the entire time. Maybe they just need more arena effects like ground AoEs and stuff that make players split up and move around.

Having finite lives would be the same as the old deathmatch, because you lose based on total lives lost that way. But this would feel worse because people would be outnumbered at the end and maybe blame their teammates. They're already losing, so I don't see the benefit of this.

It would already help to make team respawns lower than the sum of player respawns.
When each player had 4 insteat of 3 respawns with number of kills required to win the round staying at 12 the round would not continue because of 1 player staying in base.
Giving 50 points per kill reducing number of kills required to win round to 10 would do the same.
I rather suicide than jump alone into an enemy team waiting to 4v1 me but often this is not possible either. A surrender option/synergy for last member or even a suicide option in base would be much better than what we have now. Currently have to drain my life with equilibrium than jump from stair in arena map.

Rounds could be OK if there was no wait time between and the loosing team got a buff after each round to balance teams and the last player did not have to jump alone into 4 enemy players waiting to 4v1 him.

Rounds do not make battlegrounds shorter.
2 rounds are still 2*5 minutes playtime and at least 1 minute break that gets longer if players quit.
3 rounds are 3*5 minutes playtime and 2 breaks of at least a minute so 17 minutes playtime.
Thanks to limited player lives even if everyone else in his team runs out of lives 1 player can stop the round ending if he does not want to jump into the arena alone where 4 players already wait to 4v1 him which nobody wants therefore it happens all the time and thanks to rounds this happens not once but twice or even 3 times per deathmatch.
Dead players unable to respawn after loosing 3 lifes often get removed because of inactivity when they cant even be active and next round will not start before they got replaced.

In previous battlegrounds when 1 team was dominating it would reach 500 points in less than 11 minutes.
Domination 4v4 often end after 5 minutes now, sometimes after only 3 when 1 team is dominating, with rounds that would take much longer with much more waiting.
If I get deathmatch with rounds I am disappointed because it is such a bad mode and will last 11+ minutes. Previous 4v4v4 deathmatch was most popular battleground mode, now with round I would prefer removing deathmatch over keeping it like that and many other players probably too.
