Lord Hollowjack Bust is RNG?!

WHY is this a thing? Worst decision. Not a single other bust dropping boss is RNG. WHO thought it was a good idea to lock this one behind RNG? It's NOT! So pissed off about this. Am I the only one who hates this crap RNG?

I guess the customer reactions to the 10 year celebration motif grind wasn't enough for them.

Edit* It dropped for me the first time so it's probably a rather high chance to drop, compared to those motifs though.

Personally, I like RNG in these simple, cosmetic things that have no impact on the game.

On one hand, the RNG will make me do this fight more than the one time I planned to do it. On the other hand, it doesn’t make sense that a bust would be RNG. Why not make the bust be if you solo it or kill him in a certain time or something.

The way I see it, it's supposed to be a fun event about having fun.

Having some level of certainty in the rewards generally allows people to focus more on the fun aspects of it rather than getting annoyed/upset about not getting good RNG during the limited time the event is available...

It's not like they're even making money by putting this bad RNG and then selling the things in the Crown Store, so it's not like it's going to be a monetary loss to provide more guaranteed rewards (Unless they're hinging on trying to get people to buy event tickets to use on the grab bags that feature prior years stuff...)

Is it possible that you get the bust if you are never detected by Jack, so you have a no death hunt ?

ZOS mentioned in their event description that the “collectible bust furnishing can sometimes be acquired from looting Lord Hollowjack”. So yes, sounds like RNG to me.

Is it really RNG? I got both the first time (and swore I'm not going to do it again).

Edit: I just read the description in the post above, and it seems to be RNG indeed. Weird choice.

Exactly. The busts have always been about taking on additional challenge. They should have just made it beat it without dying or put in a challenge scroll. They obviously want everyone to be able to get it so timing probably not a good criteria but surely a scroll would be okay, you can bring up to 12 people!

I got the bust yesterday, and I had died in that run, so I guess it's pure rng.

Gives me flashbacks to the 10th Anniversary event style pages….

Putting a hard mode scroll in to encourage people to group a bit and having the bust as a reward could’ve been a fun community activity. Pure RNG on a limited time event is not fun.

I wonder what else Hollowjack can drop because so far done him a few extra times and gotten glenmoril maps and furnishings, but nothing new. If he can drop feathers or the new style, that might be better incentive to do it more than once per day.

I did it for the first time today and died during my run because I didn't know the mechs on HJ and I got the bust, I didn't know it was random. I'm not bragging, I'm just glad I guess that I got it out of the way.

Many times, just rubbish, no bust... my RNG is terrible!

Rather than RNG it would have been better if it was a reward for an achievement to defeat Lord Hollowjack 10 times, or something similar. This way no one that did the work for it would end up out in the cold like happened to so many with the Anniversary replicas.

This! Witches Festival is one of the bigger events of the year, because you get the goodies from almost everything.

Ok so the Lord Hollowjack Golden Skull can be a Jackpot Skull!! The one you get when handing in the quest btw





Sorry I was so excited I forgot to turn off my UI for the screenshots!

Basically everything you need from event in one skull, it was a full set of style pages but my shots may have missed one or two....... no bust though that drops randomly from boss. A friend got this first day, I was very jealous, now I'm very happy!

I think you mean Style Page griind for the replicas. Motifs dropped like candy from the sky.

That being said, the RNG isn't anywhere near as bad as the Jubilee RNG grind. One guild I'm in, we just formed a 12 person party where one person picked up the HJ daily, triggered Portal, and afterwards anyone who'd looted the bust picked up the daily quest and triggered the next one. Then would drop group after the next round. Rinse-Repeat. Each round at least one of us would get the bust, and often multiple people would get it. At least a couple dozen of us participated, and we all got the bust.

Nowhere near as bad as that dumpster fire we recall as Jubilee 2024.

[edit] I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that the Trophy you get the first time through is magnitudes better than the Bust.

There is only one ‘difficulty’ for Hollowjack.
This is modified based on group size (1-4/5-8/9-12), especially in hunt phase as it creates more lanterns.

First kill of HJ gives you the trophy furnishing

After that, it’s RNG if you get the bust (or not).

Killed HJ multiple times so far, and still no bust.

Would have preferred it if bust was guaranteed after X kills of HJ (I.e. 10 kills).

I can tell you one thing, seeing drop for other players fight after fight (72 and counting across my accounts) but not for me, a bit of a mixed bag. Happy for them, but also not happy with the design choice.

Said that, I'm done. I'm not repeating the mistake I made in the 10th anniversary with the bound pages.

Will do the fight once per day per account which is a generous level of engagement; if it drops great, if it doesn't well, that's on the devs not on me.

Is it possible that at least 1 bust is guaranteed in a 12 ppl party?
The only busts that I've seen dropped were in 12 ppl groups.
I wasn't the chosen, unfortunatly... so far !

I guess I had good RNG cause I got the bust on my first AND second run of HJ. I ran it friday and got it and on saturday when I ran it, the bust dropped for me again. Not quite sure how you get it two times... I would think once it dropped for you it wouldn't drop again...smh
