I died two times and he instantly charged and killed me again after I ressurected during the sneak phase. Am I just too slow or is it not possible the enter sneak mode fast enough?
Just bad luck. you should have a second or two after resurrecting to go to Sneak again. Just try not to be in front of him when you do. Otherwise you get smacked quick. LOL
If you were with a group he could have been after someone else and you were in his path. Second time I did it with 4 instead of a full group and nobody died. You have more room to spread out during the sneak phase so even if someone does get caught, they won't take others with them. If you have crows accumulating on you then you need to synergize with one of the landed ones to scare one away; Accumulate too many and he finds you.
If people are still struggling, vampire or some other method of removing sneak movement penalty will help. Race Against Time can be cast in stealth, and Ring of the Wild Hunt if you really want to go overkill but it's not necessary.
What I have noticed is that if I play in a group (around 12 players), boss actually sometimes finds random players & charges them, usually resulting in an insta-kill. I guess it is due to the crow that sits on you & if you don't approach green AOE & use a synergy on time.
What is odd is that if you are trying to "solo" that boss, during sneak phase of combat, the boss never charges you...
So, I guess there is at least one benefit of trying to solo that boss. It seems like the green AOE with crow synergy spawns in same amount, regardless of the amount of players, so if there is 12 players it is not enough for every player to use, so some one will have to die. It is good that we can re-spawn & not have to wait for the fight to end though.
When you ressurect, while you're still in spirit form move to a position behind him so he doesn't have line of sight on you (further away the better). Then you should have plenty of time to crouch when you poof back into existence.
In my case, what happened was that he spotted my companion while I was still in spirit phase and couldn't sneak. By the time I could, he was already rushing over.

This can be the reason. I had my companion with me when it happened. I assumed companions do not trigger him
