Let's discuss how to make this game "fair" for the player.

Since many years ago, I have stopped always trying to beat RPGs at the highest difficulty settings. I no longer seek out to beat the hardest content in MMORPGs either.

However, I still am not the kind of player who would seek pay to win games and then win against broke players.

My question here is... As I subscribe to ESO Plus and earn crowns and obtain the unlimited craft mats bag, I would love it if I don't end up with unfair advantages in the game just because I can buy victories with crowns.

Right now, my purpose for this game is simple. I am a workaholic and a competitive athlete in real life, so the last thing I want in an MMORPG is more difficulties and challenges. I'm looking for a hangout spot that doesn't pressure me to drink alcohol. I am here to play solo and just be a welcome addition to the PlayStation ESO community. My first character will be an adventurer who fights with sword and shield, minding his own business and really only socializing with other characters and players during visits to cities. But I prefer he (or "I") mind his own business and avoid group activities.

I want to know what to avoid buying in the Crown Store that'll give myself and my character an unfair advantage that will make things way easy for me. But I also don't want to be a freeloader for Zenimax Online Studios.

What do you recommend?

Thank you.

I would say as of this moment there is very little in the Crown Store that you can buy and give yourself an advantage. :)

The Crown Store doesn't offer any buy to win items, only cosmetic and utility conveniences. Nothing you buy in there can give you an advantage in completing content.

If you're on PSNA, I could send you a welcome package of some stuff that's nice for newbies that's just cluttering my inventory. Might make getting started a bit easier. No strings or further communication necessary.

They gave good advice. ESO is plagued with disconnect and lag issues right now, and it looks like these issues will not be fixed anytime soon. They have been the norm in PvP zones for 5 years and in every zone for over 5 months. Please take 5 minutes to read through the threads you see on page one after clicking "recent" at the top of the page. Here is an example of what you will find:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/658253/zos-massive-spike-in-ping-lag-in-recent-days-what-gives#latest

Also, if you are going to start playing ESO, you really should do so on PC. There are thousands of add-ons created that provide many quality of life improvements but they are only available on PC.

If you're hot-spotting from your phone as your primary connection to play the game and it's taking 100+ hours to download you're likely going to have a relatively poor gameplay experience in conjunction with the performance issues many people are facing at the moment. I hope for your sake it's at least bearable.

And to answer your question, no, nothing in the crown store is there to give you a gameplay advantage. You can buy potions, mount upgrades or repair kits, but those can be crafted/sold and mount upgrades can be done once a day.

NOTHING in the Crown Store gives you an advantage you can not earn in game. On 2nd plus characters you can buy certain conveniences, like sky shards you have already gotten, Mage, Fighters, etc guilds you have ALREADY done.

This is classic paradigm of time vs money. You spend in crown store to save time on things you have already done. There is no gear or skill that can't be earned. Of course you have to have the latest DLC's to access everything, like scribing.

He could not know also just how games play tend to break or make it for me.
The combat system in ESO is a bit special, but after played ESO for years it would very hard for me to play Skyrim again where you has to swap active powers or spells before using it vs ESO then you had them ready to use and your only limit is the bar.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I'd recommend not equating people that don't purchase Crown Store Items as 'freeloaders'.

I had every intention of buying three months ESO Plus and converting the freeloader's Crowns supplied with the 3mth subscription, into a Banker. Recent changes to ESO overall mean that I no longer have a need for a Banker.

Instead I bought one month of ESO Plus to freeload off ZOS, by doing the arduous quests to obtain four of the six available companions on all of my characters. Due to various limitations I stopped after doing one character only.

I can't freeload in Infinite Archive without a companion.

While there's nothing that is pay to win in the crown store, I would strongly suggest NOT to buy:
    - Respec scrolls - go to town and use the shrines to respec using gold, or you can use the free armory station to fully respec
    - Vampire/werewolf bite - players on PC will give you them for free. or you can roleplay and get them from rare enemies
    - Vampire/werewolf cleanse - there's an NPC by the shrines that let you be cured using gold, or you can use the free armory station to fully respec
PC/NA Dungeoneer (Tank/DPS/Heal), Trialist (DPS/Tank/Heal), and amateur Battlegrounder (DPS) with a passion for The Elder Scrolls lore
    • CP 2000+
    • Warden Healer - Arcanist Healer - Warden Brittleden - Stamarc - Sorc Tank - Necro Tank - Templar Tank - Arcanist Tank
    • Trials: 9/12 HMs - 3/8 Tris
    • Dungeons: 30/30 HMs - 24/24 Tris
    • All Veterans completed!

Seriously; people already pay to play the game when they purchase the chapter(s). And even if it was a truly f2p game.... playing the game alone is already support enough if someone does not have the budget to do more. Zenimax will live just fine without some players hard-earned dollars. It's wild to think players owe a multibillion dollar company anything.

I disagree with the Crown Store not giving you an advantage in gameplay: you are giveing the perspective of the person who has all the chapters and dlcs. If you have the base game without access to Greymoor (or ESO+) then you can't access antiquities. If you don't have Necrom then you don't have arcanist. Lacking both of these will put a frugal new player at a significant disadvantage compare to new players who have opened up their wallets.

The OP has already suggested he intends to purchase ESO+ so in his case he will have access to most things.

Whilst Arcanist's may be current BiS for many people, I have one and find her annoying to play, not least because the green is totally overwhelming and I find it abhorrent. :)

Any dlc`s give you access to sets and new mechs that are not in the base game. So it's better not to even pay for a subscription or not touch the DLC content at all.

Please don't see it as criticism, it's just making me curious: I see you opening 4 or 5 threads with questions each day, which is of course fine to do. But it gives me the impression that you approach the whole game very strategically and rather complicatedly, especially if your only interest, as you state, is being in the game, hanging out, doing your own thing in the game to relax. How many hours have you played so far? I think many aspects of the game come naturally once you just look around, explore the cities and shops and do questing.

I play Elder Scrolls games in two ways. Number one, start a character and play however I want, as long as the minimum level of efficiency is maintained. Number two, roleplay.

I will be doing the latter on ESO.

I have eight characters to start, the first will be their leader and frontline hero. He will be a pure tank. I already mapped out general outlines for the remaining seven. One of them will be a reclusive housekeeper who spends
most of his time crafting for the clan. (The "clan" here is simply my eight-person account and I proudly call them, The Wood Back Clan.) I like to imagine him being a powerlifter and Olympic-style weightlifter like me in real life but hates the outdoor life, so he got assigned as the guy who tends to the house and its needs. The master crafter of the group.

That's just how I enjoy playing MMOs. That's how I was during my FFXIV days, and I don't plan to be different in this game. Even if it means sacrificing some efficiency in gameplay.

My leader's wife will be a healer. There will also be a DPS adventurer who's basically the thug of the group who gets sent to intimidate people if said people mess with the clan. lol

It's just fun to come up with these things. lol

Also, keep in mind that downloading my game in my PS5 is taking days because I'm using hotspot for internet. I have plenty of time to think. I can't just be playing Witcher 3 all the time bro. That game has a creepy setting. I want positivity.

And what better way to get positivity than to immerse myself in the ESO community? I'm about to play ESO so why not?

Give me a break man. I'm hot-spotting my ESO download with my phone and it's not even half way done and has over 60 hours left before it fully downloads. Let me have my fun. I'm doing people no harm. Please leave me alone.

Looking at your account history since your first post 7 years ago, one might think you're trolling, or at least unlikely to actually start playing this time. And while you have fun, your posts might indirectly do harm to actual new players, as their questions will get lost from the first page faster, and you might expend the willingness of seasoned players to answer newbie questions.

Y'know, one thing you could do to immerse yourself while waiting for the game to finish downloading would be to look over the Online section of UESP:

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Online

and also perhaps The Imperial Library:

    https://www.imperial-library.info/

Now, that said, those are very heavily "reader oriented" and if that's not how you prefer to get immersed in a game's background, then those may not be something to interest you.

I have probably missed the point as there is nothing in the crown store that will give a character an advantage in anything other than appearance.

Even those who use gold or crowns to pay for a carry or even someone to play their game to get a "fancy schmancy" title do not give that player an advantage. They may have that title, but it is an empty title as they are no better player than before.

    So what did I miss?
