Wait, I misread that.
Only reconstructed items give back crystals. Transmuted dropped items do not.

Nothing, just mats. transmutation and reconstruction are different. if you take an existing gear piece and change the trait your transmute crystals become the new trait material.
If you reconstruct, at any cost, 25 transmute crystals are there when deconstructed but no other mats will come except maybe 1 of the highest improvement lwvel if you spent mats to improve it.

This, transmute is less useful I say except changing an trait on an gold weapon. Or if you have too many transmute from Cyrodil or random dungeons you can use it to transmute weapons to nirm and deconstruct for the expensive materials.

If you happen to be at the limit for transmute crystals and decon a transmuted item on PS, you get none of them back. Same as if you open a reward box with transmute crystals.
