20 consecutive West Weald Treasure Maps with ZERO leads

What can you even say about that kind of RNG? I figured that it would be a good time to work on completing the codex for West Weald, so I've been buying up maps left, right, and center. I managed to snag one of each of the different furnishing leads from the treasure maps at a roughly 1:5 ratio of leads to maps, but now that I'm on the second entry, I've hit a run of 20 consecutive maps dug up without getting a single lead. RNG may be RNG, but that's downright unacceptable, and seemed like a good reason to dashboard and go play something more else.

FINALLY TALLY: 48 consecutive treasure maps before finally getting a lead. Yay RNG.

Took me 200+ Galen treasure maps to get the lead that gives the (bad looking) Barkroot Blessing skin.

(and I bought them when they were costing between 100k and 200k)

I have a 3/3 for every thing from Treasure maps. Spent a total of over 4 mil gold on maps (most of them were bought before the event so the price was around 30k per map), for the last 5 leads to complete the 3/3 on everything I had to buy around 70 maps (thank goodness there was already an event...). On average I had about one Lead every 15 maps.
For 1/3 lore or the first dig, you can get Leads easily (from what I've heard, for the first Lead there are chances buffed), but after that it's much worse. I don't understand why there are so many Leads in West Weald in Treasure maps, why some of them are not in Treasure chests for example..
Also, don't forget to "block" the gain of Leads where you'll already have 3/3 so, yeah, if you want full codex 3/3 you'll need a lot of maps.

Yeah, I knew going into this that I was going to need a lot of maps, but I can't understand for the life of my why there isn't some sort of curation, and why there are so many leads associated with treasure maps for one zone. I would understand it if there were two specific leads that dropped from a specific map, but the way that it's set up is just so incredibly short sighed and frustrating. I know that I shouldn't be surprised after having dealt with the Ancestral pages and the furnishing leads from Telvanni Peninsula and Apocrypha, but figured I would at least speak my mind so that maybe someone at ZOS will take note of the the fact that this current system is the exact opposite of fun.

Wait on those maps. Golden Pursuits (new thing coming u44+) is going to increase the likelihood of getting the rare things (incl. leads) you're looking for from various activities like looting chests, fishing, etc.

I would, but where would I even begin to store that many treasure maps, seeing as how they don't stack? Yet another quality of life feature that we don't have...

I mean you're not wrong, but at the same time, the RNG in ESO is arguably the worst of any MMO that I've ever played. I have run DSA well over a hundred times and that has only netted me the lead for the DDF one single time. I honestly don't have the inclination to keep running the some of the worst content that this game has to offer for a minuscule chance at a lead. What makes it ever more infuriating is watching my group get the lead over and over again, sometimes where all three will get the lead, whereas I will not. I've tried running different characters. I've tried sacrificing goats. I've tried praying to RNGeezus. Nix, no, nada, nothing. NO BUENO.

When you dig up treasure maps, if you don't get a lead within the 2nd or 3rd try, don't do any more on that character until reset the next day. Each day the first time each of your characters log in, they are assigned a random number seed for their loot table rolls. That seed can be great, can be average, can be absolutely hopeless.

If you're getting horrible results, switch characters, or wait until the next day.

yeah, pretty much all of the leads im still missing to dig up are from treasure maps because of the absurdly low drop rate

i could be OK with the current drop rate if the leads were at least curated to ones you were missing codex entries with

I'm now up to 30 consecutive West Weald maps dug up without a single lead. This doesn't feel like bad RNG. It just feels absolutely broken.

If that's honestly the way that ESO works, then I need to reconsider whether or not this game is worth continuing to play. My RNG feels hopeless most days so it must be nice to play the game with great, or even average RNG.

I reaaally hope that isn't true... I don't know how to prove it other than zos outright telling us... But if it is true then that would explain why some days/characters have better "luck" than others.

Video Games use Pseudo-Random Number Generators (PRNG). PRNG is not truly random, instead it is deterministic, and the result is determined by the initial value or "seed." If the seed is the same for each roll then it will produce the same result each time.

Agreed. That sounds like an absolutely horrible way to establish RNG. I've said for years that my account has the lowest possible RNG setting, and this just make my crazy thought so much more plausible if true. Either way, I'm going to start mothballing my account so that I can move on to more enjoyable games. This grind and rubbish RNG just isn't worth my time and energy anymore.

I haven’t bought any maps because I can’t stand paying so much for potentially nothing.

Got 2 West Weald maps from reward boxes, the first had no lead and the second had a lead for that big Ayleid tree. Come on, you can get that lead from just about anything else! I still don’t have the medium size Ayleid tree and a bunch of other leads.

Hold on to those treasure maps. An event is coming in Jan/Feb ( my guess) called the Pan-Tamriel Celebration. Here are the patch notes on the PTS v10.2.2

Treasure hunters, during this event any chests you dig up using Treasure Maps will roll again on all of their existing loot, greatly improving your chance to get leads, furnishings, etc. that are exclusive to that source.

Yeah, this is a huge one for me. Leads that can drop from other sources should not pollute the incredibly rare table in treasure map leads. No, do not give me a lead that I could get for harvesting a flower down the road from the treasure map that may have a miniscule chance of giving me a lead that only comes from treasure chests.

I honestly haven't bothered with most ancestral/ancient motifs. I only just finished Ancestral Reach in the last month to finally get the last lead I needed to complete the whole thing (and that's only completing it, not 3/3 on the entries).

I wish I would have stopped at 10 maps, because digging up 30 consecutive maps with zero leads was the straw that broke the camel's back. Between the insanely poor lead drop implementation and nonsensicle RNG, I'm just fed up with grinding and grinding and grinding with little to no reward. The game has gotten stale, and the new features are just more of the same old mind-numbingly boring grind. I really wanted to try and complete the codex, but honestly it's just not worth it.

Tried your method today. Dug up another 5 maps and nada. That's 35 consecutive maps with ZERO leads.

@ZOS_Kevin - Something is clearly broken here. Surely it can't be possible to dig up 35 consecutive West Weald maps with ZERO LEADS. It may sound petty, but I'm done with this nonsense. I actually looked forward to this event specifically so that I could bang out the codex entries, and yet here we are with ESO doing ESO things.

When the chapter first came out, I was getting a lead for just about every map I think. Something may have changed. Having a consistently bad rng streak for a long period of time just doesn’t make sense.

I’m really disgusted with the level of grind in the game during this “anniversary celebration”. I can take 2-3 hours I usually spend on this game and play something else and not lose out on anything in ESO and enjoy my time instead.
