Varlariel in Endless Archive?

Hi, I just got Varlariel in Endless Archive on cycle 5 and it seems completely impossible. The boss has a wipe mechanic that seems unavoidable. Three ghosts channel, and then hit for like 25k damage. I can kill one of the ghosts, but it's not enough to make the boss survivable. Is this just an rng loss?

I tried resetting the IA and now it's making me wait to try again. Really great. RNG bosses and the game gives you a loser penalty timer.

varlariel is a scaled down trial boss from aetherian archive, can spawn as a cycle 4 boss

that mechanic you need to kill the ghost summons, each ghost killed reduces the dmg the explosion does

if you cant burn her down before the explosion, you need higher hp and to try to kill at least 1-2 of the ghosts (2 would make it more survivable)

getting this boss in arc 1, 2, or 3 i usually am able to burn her down before the explosion happens

have gotten her on like arc 5 once and was still able to survive the explosion with at least 1 (possibly 2, didnt quite see) of the 3 ghosts dead (i was on a 45k hp tank at the time in a run with a dps friend, but we both managed to survive the explosion)
    plays PC/NA
    handle @Necrotech_Master
    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

I think it's not too feasible as a stamina DPS Dragonknight. I have almost all single-target damage

that is what offense verses are for lol

and if your a dps then you should be able to nuke her in arc 1 before the explosion, especially with almost any offense verse

however after experiencing this fight in several different arcs, i would say that the HP on the clones is rather high and could probably be lowered a bit, during the fight with this boss in arc 5 the ghost clones took a significant amount of focus to bring down

i think the intention is archive is built for duos, and the expectation is that each player attempts to kill 1 of the ghost summons before the explosion, but in practice due to the health of the summons, its usually almost more efficient to try to just burn the boss down before the explosion happens

25K each? So the two hit you for 50K? Or a combined 25K from both of them? The first rule of IA is "don't die". You can't be dying to 25K hits. There are like no DPS races if you have enough health/mitigation/sustain. If you go in with a dungeon/trial style DPS build, you are just asking for trouble. And you'd be surprised how fast enemies die when you can just stand in stupid, ignore lots of mechanics, and treat everything like a target dummy. Wear a heavy Trainee set cuirass with a health enchant. Eat Orzaga Tripe Trifle food for health + stamina regen. Yeah, it uses columbine, but 1 columbine gives you enough food to last like 12 hours. it's not like cranking through tons of columbine to make stacks of potions that only last 45 seconds.

Get yourself a little tougher and so much of IA falls into place.

You just need to kill one of the reflections. Hold block put on a shield at explosion and you'll be fine.

1: learn to block/dodge where suitable, you shouldn't be eating charged hits to the face, and even without a shield blocking cuts damage taken in half at a minimum.

2: if you're dying from damage in arc 1, I would really look into making sure your armour isn't broken/low level/missing, as outside of the threat of getting knocked off the boss arena or standing in damage (don't) they pose no more threat than a public dungeon boss with more hp.

I'm sorry, but did you actually read the full post? Neither blocking nor dodging mitigates Varlariel's wipe mechanic.
