Please make scribing altar "fit" (i.e. functional) when in closed spaces...

I just spent about a half hour trying to set up a little corner of my fort so that I'd make a little scribing space, and everything fits nice and snug... but much to my chagrin I now realize that the "functionality" limit box (whatever you want to call it) is too big and I can't make my scribing altar work.

Everything fits visually, but I guess because of some empty pixels or something on top, I don't get the green outline while placing it and it will never be active... This is a huge bummer. Is there a way to "shrink" the placement box so that it can fit into smaller rooms?

As you can see in the picture, the top of the soul gem is nowhere near the roof of the enclosed space here. Which is why I was so surprised that it didn't function.
