[REQUEST] New Character Slots

I really like to create new characters, give them a fitting name and level that one up.

Unfortunately I have done this 20 times already and now I have no more space to realize the many ideas I have.

Will we eventually get some more slots?

(No, I am not going to the other server as I don't have access to the items that I have purchased there for hard money)

I doubt it . It’s a very niche market to cater for people that want 20plus chars. I have 14 but tbh I only play on about 4 of them .

The benefits don’t outweigh the cons

Probably the only chance is if they launch a new class or playable race. Otherwise they rely on a player playing on both servers and/or buying/developing a second account, both of which generate additional revenue.

The result will be that I will reduce my time of playing this game as playing a finished char that is only there to grind and the only development is by farming new gear is less interesting to me.

And no I won't buy another account or buy things that I already bought to have the same things on the other server.

And to be honest: no one should be forced to do this.

In exactly the same situation myself. We need many more character slots.

The new IA update made me want to make two new characters. But I can't!

I really don't see it happening any time soon.

I also don't get the need for more than 20 characters, considering you can have 10 armory slots per character, which is essentially 200 different characters (yes, they are 10 iterations of the same character, but unique builds within those iterations).

Feels like a very niche product that wouldn't make much sense to invest resources into, especially without adding a new race or class.

The other option of course is that if you have one or more characters that you don't reckon to use e.g. because they're not fun, or the experiment with them didn't work out, then you can delete them and start those slots over again.

Also, if you're simply looking to e.g try out something different then you can do so on the PTS if you're on PC. That might help with any decision about replacing an existing character.

However, I don't think it's unreasonable that most games have a limit on characters, at least per server - although some limit the number over the whole account - and 20 per server is actually a lot more than in some games.

There's a separate argument over whether Crown purchases should be useable on both servers, but the likelihood is that if that was changed then it would result in the prices being raised to reflect what would otherwise be significant lost revenue, and that would be unfair on those players who only play on one server.

Armory slots are nice, I use them a lot, I like playing all roles (tank/healer/DPS/solo). Currently my main account has 20 characters with total 100 armory builds and that's also the biggest reason why I can't delete any characters anymore without losing paid armory/outfit slots. I also have Excel sheet to keep track of those builds, gears and skills.

If any new character slots will be published in the future, I'm going to buy that/those immediately without hesitation and start to plan several different builds for those new characters.

Making a new character isn't just about builds... Sometimes I think of a cool look for a character and want to make a new one with that look. Sometimes there is something released in the crown store(mount or costume or something) and I have an idea of what character to build around it. Sometimes I just want a new character to do something another character can't, without switching armory builds. Sometimes I want to make a new outfit and I want to keep an outfit in use, so can't change that character, instead I want to make a new character to create the new outfit on. Sometimes I am tired of never leveling a single CP in days, and want a new character to feel the leveling experience again. Sometimes I want to play a class without touching my existing characters. Sometimes playing a new character just feels fresh, as there is soo much to do. And many many more reasons.

Also, I always want to be able to use what I bought in the crown store, so I am not going to make another account. Nor would I want to ever delete a character, as most have months or even years of time and effort put into them.

For more character slots, I would pay in a heartbeat! Just charge me the 1500 crowns for each new slot, and I'll probably buy 100 or more(over time)!

I'm perfectly happy to have 4 accounts and play on both PC megaservers. I'm also perfectly happy to support the game by 4 annual subs plus extra crowns and crown store purchases on both servers.

Game's worth the candle for me, best MMO I've ever played AAMOF.

Not to derail, but we also need more outfit slots per character. I'm on the other end where I use 1 character and want lots of outfit choices. 10 isn't enough for me. We need to lift the caps on things if people are willing to pay for it.

As @Sarannah has rightly pointed out there are players out there that don't see their characters as builds but as a character they create. And I assure you there are quite some out there. There are quite a lot of people that play ESO as a role playing game and not only as a game. For the latter, I agree: it is the build that it important and with armory slots one can build almost anything.

But for role players the character him/herself is at the core of things and the build is just a means to help that virtual personna in the world in which this personna evolves.

I for instance have just used my last available slot to create an emulation of a snow elf that by some twists was preserved in a sort of time capsule to find himself in the area depicted in ESO.

For this I had to scrap the idea to create an imperial mage that has deserted the usurpator.

The fact outfit slots (or is it armory slots?) are per character is VERY ANNOYING. I haven't used any because of that, even though I think I get a free one per character.

I am like those who typically only play a couple of the characters I have leveled. I have about 60 characters across PC and PS5 now, but it is a pain to get into most, even to do basic crafting for dollars.

Some quality of life changes would help, but I am not going to hold my breath for those.

I also do like leveling characters, but I am done for now.

    New slots would be great.

In the meantime, try a swap from the US server to the EU, you keep all your purchases, so you can at least plan in advance for more character slots.

Character slots are not the problem here. The problem is entirely the Armory not saving gear!
If the Armory save your build, sets or gear and appearance including mount and pets there would not be a need for you to create more characters.

ZOS dropped the ball here with lack of foresight or desire to create an Armory that feeds the needs of the players to create.

It's a shame they didn't take the Armory to a fun place for us Paying players to go off on many builds as we would love to create without making new toons.,

I say this needs to be addressed as a Armoy problem not a character space issue.

Again you comment only from the gaming perspective here.

But the thread was opened from a role player perspective. And here characters matter the most. And role players want to play characters, not builds. Already written here on several occasions throughout the thread.

So: Role players like me want more characters to create.

Tl;dr - You have the space and the capacity to make hundreds of characters without needing a single new slot.

The assumption that I'm not a roleplayer is comedic to me.

I have created and deleted hundreds, if not a thousand characters in my time with ESO. I create them, tell their tale, delete them and move on.

I also use my armory slots to create alternate versions of my characters, where they make different decisions in their day to day, ally with different factions (pro-tip, you can abandon a quest and do it again to take a different perspective) or just look at life differently.

I'm not afforded the same versatility as a fresh character, but I have enough choice to make each one unique enough iterations of the same person.

I maxed out my slots, deleted everything and now only have 5 characters, because I've no more stories to tell within the narrative ESO presents.

Were this Skyrim, Oblivon or Morrowind I'd still be spinning tales.

Again, you have 200 slots to play with, using them accordingly is entirely up to you and the limits of your imagination. Learning to work within the constraints of a system is something I learned long ago with 2nd Editon D&D.

If the rush of leveling is what is drawing you, then I contend that you speak from a gaming perspective and not a role playing one.

    That's all I got.

I admire anyone who can use the Armory to make completely different builds and use them successfully. I generally use them for gear swaps and perhaps a few skills at most. It is too easy to accidentally overwrite a saved build and lose a lot of time and effort.

Characters I no longer play anymore due to their class being nerfed to oblivion are not going to be deleted based on the time I have put into making them full crafters. If you want to do end game content you also aren’t likely to pick just any character to make another build in the Armory. I have one character slot left and I keep putting off creating a new character knowing I will not have any options left.

I assume that the number of characters per account is based on some calculations of what the game can handle, and not just an arbitrary number that can be changed without consequences, but I have no expertise in that area of programming. We can hope that as time passes improvements can be made, I guess.

That is not true at all.

I had to repurchase all the key items in the Crown Store on EU. (The banker/merchants/etc.) Mounts are also different along with housing.

That is a major flaw, but it is what we have.

The storage of gear is another major drawback to the armory that I can somewhat relate to having my own "armory" with something like Ring of the Pale order, which I just suck up 8-10 slots (and rarely use now) just to be able to match to the need.

    Very poor design once again.

What is "bought with IRL funds" other than the Crown Store? The only thing close are the expansions and ESO+ but that is not much of a gain for the OP or really most of us.

Everything that is bought at the website like crowns and - as you mentioned - chapters and ESO+. There was or is a bundle including a pet that ends up on both servers, too. The same applies to the trash crates from Twitch and other rewards. Everything that is added to an account from outside of the game is available on both servers, everything bought from the crown store inside the game is only available on the server you are logged in.

That is relatively little and does not meet the needs of the OP nor address the problem. Thus saying "paid things are across NA/EU" is not meaningful!

Note that you also have things multiple times if you play on both PC and console!

So the original statement of getting to keep things you paid real money for was not accurate. And most buy Crowns for real money.
