Banana For Scale?

As much as I love how accessible the Preview feature is for furnishings that you haven't placed, both for actual furnishings and plans, sometimes it's hard to tell exactly how big something is, even with the grid floor. Frankly, I can never tell exactly how big one of those grid squares actually is and so it's kind of irrelevant to my scale brain. So what I propose is this: we get a banana (or person, or a ruler) for scale. Just something that everyone understands as a benchmark, or at least a roundabout size that isn't simply a grid pattern made out of tiles that I can't scale intuitively in my head.

well there is a banana furnishing you could use

i have seen people use houseguests, like Bastian, for scale so you could do that too.

for the grid pattern squares, maybe there's a furnishing that matches its size? like the block from home goods

or better yet: add a size slider to scale furnishings

that will require more effort with texturing, but it can be done (as it is being proven by a certain game that I particularly dislike)

I'm talking about placing something in the preview space that gives a better idea of what the scale actually is. Sure you can take a screenshot of one thing and compare it to another thing, but that's not really efficient and is doesn't provide a direct comparison in a single view.

i was referring to using actual furnishings in-game to compare, not screenshots.

Right, but the point is that it needs to be in the preview volume in order to determine scale in in the game.

I’ve been asking for a scale on the image for years. You know, that bar of a certain length that tells you how long it is relative to the object in the image. Show us what the dimension of those tiles really is so we don’t have to guess. Scales are usually on maps but would work in this case.

I just assume that would be easier than including an image of something else, but whatever works best.

If I find a pattern for Awesome Furnishing I don't just preview it from the recipe. I go to my house, find Awesome Furnishing in the housing editor, then preview the furnishing in my home and see how it fits the space I want to use it in.

That's fine, but it sounds like a lot of extra work when you're out and about. Also, I may just be inexperienced with it but I don't think it's extremely easy to do that in the controller UI, which I use exclusively.

Yeah, it doesn't seem that hard to put in some kind of universal measuring implement we can all understand alongside whatever you're looking at.

On PC you may use the addon Furniture Preview by Shinni (cared for since by Teva). Mind to extract the zip correctly in case you download it manually: the folder should read 'FurniturePreview', not TevaFurniturePreview260. Just take the folder inside 'TevaFurniturePreview260' to your addons-folder. The preview comes with a toggleble item scale using 1 m as a base. In a former version Thytis Andromo was also included into the preview as a comparison of measure but he vanished somehow.

Thanks very much, I appreciate the response and I'll check it out. I'm a little peeved that something so obvious hasn't been done by ZOS, but I suppose this is the way of things with a Bethesda-adjacent studio.

I have to correct myself. The preview scaling including Thytis comes with EHT,

    https://esoui.com/downloads/info1959-EssentialHousingTools.html

but ..the scaling doesn't show up anymore (for me) despite checking the setting to show scaling. Maybe because of a new addon conflict, maybe someting else. Regardless of that both addons, FurniturePreview and EHT, offer great improvements. I can recommend both :)
