Well, the obvious situation is that Ithelia just woke up from a long imprisonment where she forgot who she was. The in-game imagery is consistent with that. I find her in-game appearance to be fine, after going through the story.

The marketing images need to be engaging. People won't buy an expensive statue or expansion where she looks like she is sleeping off a hangover in Sheriff Taylor's office.

You'll notice that Ithelia has much more detailed facial expressions, especially towards the end of the questline. So I think they seemed to use a new model for the face in order to do this, so I think it was an experiment that had some pros and cons for the first iteration.

Compared to the base NPCs, whose facial expressions are better than in a lot of MMOs, but not all that expressive beyond "smile" "surprised" and a few others that look the same on different NPCs.

They said they did. And many people didn't approve because it looks "alien" in the game. Too different compared to all other characters.

The problem with her teeth (that's fixed now), her eyes having no light, and somehow botched lip animations didn't help much, either.

Yes. The wings on the figurine look like crystal, but in the game they looked like metal. They moved strangely and had a weird shape in general.

I’m afraid the figurine set the image for her in my mind and the game version was just so different I didn’t like it nearly as well.
